Which 4K HDR TV are you planning to buy for Scorpio or One s?

Sounds like these new Sony TV's do a good job of making LED's perform even better than OLED's in some areas, too bad they start at 65 inches and $7,000.

We were also treated to a side-by-side comparison of a Z-series TV when compared to an LG OLED TV plus a Samsung LCD, both of which are 4K HDR sets. The same video seen on the Samsung set looked pretty washed out -- the blacks were not nearly as deep and dark. The OLED TV, on the other hand, handled blacks as well as the Z-series, but it couldn't handle subtle colors. For example, a shot of a light fixture looked a little blown out on the OLED screen, while the same scene on the Z-series appeared more true-to-life. Similarly, a close-up of cooked rice looked rather monotone on the OLED screen, while the Z-series showed the same scene in much richer detail, so much so that each rice grain seemed to pop from the display

It doesn't do bitstream audio so I would t be able to get Dolby Atmos sound.

You sure? Because i was playing with the settings last night and they have bitstreaming as an option in the sound settings.

Is this a software patch issue or is it a hardware issue? As it can it be patched in!
So, I've been looking into this. It seems that the underlying problem is the way Xbox inserts its OS audio. It can currently only do that for either a processed bitstream 5.1 or uncompressed 5.1 or 7.1. The problem is most Dolby or DTS lossless has been going bitstream, with video taking up so much real estate. This is why for Dolby Atmos and now DTS X, they have been bitstream-only. Xbox won't currently allow raw bitstreaming!

Can it be updated in software? I really do think so, but I think it will take some real expertise on the Xbox team to make it happen. I really hope that they can sort this out. Please vote for Dolby Amos and DTS X inclusion on Xbox hardware, guys!

I am looking at getting a new receiver, and I know that this is really only going to have a niche audience (as I doubt ceiling mounted speakers or 4 extra upward firing speakers will be the norm), but I wish that MS gave a few more sh!ts about these enthusiast formats. They brag about customization, but they always seem to go with what they think the masses will want, rather than cater to the enthusiast and be ahead of the curve. If they really want to be the premier media experience, why ignore the new sound formats? This kinda irks me about them. What they are missing here, is it promotes people to switch to another media player to get the best experience. Even older BD players output raw bitstream!

I really dislike this side of Microsoft! Sorry to be a Negative Nancy.

I'm sure this will be the match up to watch at next years TV shoot out. I would take these articles with a grain of salt since this was a Sony event and on uncalibrated sets.

Oh for sure but the fact that an LED even comes that close to an OLED is pretty freaking cool IMO.

Very impressive! Damn you Sony lol... you just made my decision a bit harder now! Here's another link to the Z series....

....what irks me a bit is that it doesn't support Dolby Vision while the the LG 2016 OLEDS support both HDR formats. Can't wait to see reviews for these new sets. If they can match or get close to the contrast levels of the LG OLEDS while pumping out brighter pictures.... well they'll be hard to ignore... I'll be watching closely for reviews.

Yeah that's ridiculous, I bought an OLED for $2700 that supports both HDR formats. A $7000 LCD TV should do it too.

Awesome hopefully the price plummets in the next year or Oled for me. Here is a funny snippet from that article..
"Everything I saw today was mighty impressive, but of course, it was all presented by Sony, so it must be taken with a grain of salt."

I decided to check out some TVs on display in John Lewis as they are one of the few stores that doesn't have them set up through a horrible standard def signal splitter.

Some of the Samsung HDR sets do look nice, although OLED is still the benchmark from what I have seen. All the sets had that typical over garish and saturated dynamic setting engaged so it was hard to compare models.

I still don't like how most of these sets handle motion, although OLED seems less offensive from the little I have seen. However, that might just be the perception to contrast/depth on movement rather than improvement to motion resolution.

Basically everyone supports hdr10 but dolby vision is only available from streamed sources right now.

Does anyone know if they make a gaming monitor that supports HDR? Going to upgrade my 2 year old 24 inch benq gaming monitor to a 4K monitor here very soon to go along with the Xbox S. Of course my TV supportes it but I can only game competitively on a monitor with a very low response rate . 2 ms or under . been Gamming on a monitor since 1995. Lol. I wonder if it's a 10bit 4K panel, that's all I would need to support HDR ?

So, whick 4k tv is best 4k tv? Seriously though, got my xbos arriving soon and thinking maybe just going with a nice 4k monitor n speaker setup for my room instead....but should I?

I think that depends on the size and price you are looking for. If you are staying 40" or lower, I'd look seriously at one of those LG OLEDs because of the low latency. If you are looking for an LED, I'd make sure it's got the Nano-crystal displays of Samsungs SUHD or Sony's Tri-luminence (different names for the same thing, as I understand), as those will have a vastly higher color range. I'm pretty sure the Samsung SUHD has a color range capability beyond what is output at this time.

This site is fantastic for making comparisons. It has links to prices and everything. It breaks down many different categories.

I went with the Samsung KS 8500, which is the curved version of their top pick in the under $2500, 65" category, and don't regret it for a second.

Sweet. I've bookmarked the site for when I get a new TV in a year or two.

Albert Penello went on the record to saying that the team is looking into bitstream for the One S!

I've been looking into this more myself, the Vizio P series is good if you don't want to use HDR while gaming, if you enable HDR it ups the input lag considerably. Check out the section here at rtings for input lag and how it changes depending on which features you are using. http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/vizio/p-series-2016 also forget using an OLED for gaming right now as the input lag on those sets is still pretty high as well. It looks like for gamers the Samsung KS8000 would be the best choice.

Thank you so much for your in depth reviews! It has been an excellent aid in (almost) selecting a TV. I have a question regarding which TV I should select, however. I will be using the TV primarily for gaming on the Xbox One S, which supports 4k and HDR content. The seconary use is streaming and movies.. Netflix, etc. A big priority for me is being able to game at the highest quality.. so, being HDR capable while keeping a low input lag. I realize there are no HDR games out currently, however several are coming soon and I am also attempting to somewhat future proof. I was originally hands down going to go with the Vizio P Series. It seemed like the best quality for the lowest price. However, I came to realize a big issue with it (that I'm not sure you guys address). The TV's gaming input, HDMI 5, is HDMI 1.4 and therefore will not support HDR. So you can't game in HDR unless you use a different input, which has a whopping 100+ ms input lag.

That's correct, for HDR support it is necessary to use HDMI 1 - 4 on the Vizio P. We measured an input lag of 62.1ms when sending an HDR signal with 'Game Low Latency' on HDMI1 on the Vizio P. This is quite high for gaming, and will be an issue for a lot of people. The KS8000 is a good choice. We found that when sending an HDR signal, it is necessary to set the color space to 'Native' but then it successfully plays HDR content even with the 'Game' special picture mode. We measured the input lag with HDR metadata and 'Game' mode enabled to be 22.6ms.

Yeah, I've got the 8500 which is the curved version. I hadn't thought about hdr affecting lag, and it's nice to see it inly takes a minor hit. Kinda crazy that the oled was higher with it on but lower with it off, though not by much. All in all, I'd definitely recommend the ks 8500/8000. Fantastic tv.

Non HDR with Full Array LED>Edge Lit with HDR.
Full Array>anything else when it comes to LCD based tech.

Nothing has a better visual impact on a LCD set than Full Array LED.

Good to hear, I'm planning on getting the 50 inch for my bedroom, was going to go with the vizio but HDR causing that much extra input lag takes it out of the running for me.

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be a way to "have it all" so to speak right now, hopefully that changes with next years models.
