I'm hearing alot about xbox VR in 2018 instead of 2017. Maybe I'll just keep pro/PSVR for now, buy scorpio at launch for all my multiplatforms, then trade up for xbox VR/AR next year? Idk, it will be interesting.
I hope MS doesn't focus too much on VR. If PC VR helmets are compatible then that's ok I guess, since the products are already there, but I don't see VR taking off.

Oculus, VIVE and Sony have all tried it. I hardly see anyone talking about them, most of the games aren't even full budget types of games, and even with the Wii and Kinect selling tons of motion controllers, gamers always seem to just gravitate back to traditional kb/m or gamepad controllers.

Now if someone wants to include Google Cardboard or that Samsung VR Gear thing as poster childs of VR success, I guess fine. They sold tons. But those gadgets are not what true VR gaming is about.

Cheap $20 Google Cardboards are successful VR gadgets, but not $400-600 ones like Oculus, VIVE, Sony VR

Kinda similar to Comcast Xfinity though. And you know they'll get accused of trying to take over cable television again or something. So probably not. :meh:
I was going to say this earlier. Yeah, Comcast's media box is literally called XFinity X1. Otherwise, I actually like it.

Where do you go to listen to VR conversations? Here? Go to PSVR reddit or Gaf, plenty of discussions. VR is not like Kinect and Wii, it's on a whole new level, the problem is price right now and convincing people to try it. Most people just think its a screen pressed against your face, its way more than that, you're IN the game, literally that's how it feels with RE7 for example. The biggest leap in gaming I have ever experienced.

Also, I think developers are super interested. I'd be hard pressed to find this sort of similar graph for Wii or Kinect games. Look at the comparison between regular Xbox one games and VR or even ps4

I want them to leave it wide open. I've seen so many vids of even small test experiences for PC that look like good fun. Have it support all HMDs, I say. Spenser certainly made it sound like he doesn't like how it's all broken up as VR is so new, it needs penetration and support.

Mass Effect is just a placeholder, RDR2 whatever. My main thing is ps4's performance vs xb1. This wasn't done with cpu. Now, drive down the framerate to equal ground we're Scorpio has a massive gpu advantage and slight cpu advantage and I think we'll see performance modes for xbox that give us something to choose from. I'm actually tired of calling this thing Scorpio.
It's a pain to type. It always starts out as scr instead of sco when I type it

I've been watching the posts in this thread. While Jin is downplaying Scorpio's advantage over the PS4 Pro, in my opinion, he hasn't done anything that would warrant a ban, warning, or anything. The last thread got out of hand. This thread isnt like that's. Also, OBM, the ignore feature on this site is amazing. It blocks the person and also locks their being quoted.
There are 10+ post's above yours that mention pro. Its a reason i spend less and less time here. If i want comparisons I'll go to another forum/site. I expect better of you.

Plain does make a good point, you could just ignore them. To me, there really is only about 20 people left here on a consistent basis anymore. If people get banned, there will be nothing to discuss or debate with anyone. That leaves Neogaf, which is a cess pool of s*** stains (sure I post there, but I am exempt from s*** stain status because I am not a dick).

The odd comparison with the pro is obviously going to happen but nothing's got out of hand yet.

While JinCA is here to lower people's expectations for Scorpio, let me lower your expectations of JinCA.

He said that the XBOX ONE will be the focus for developers because of the install base and Scorpio games have to be compatible to the XBOX ONE. He said assets will be scaled up to Scorpio.

I said this was not the way it would be done. Developers would develop on the Scorpio and scale down because it's better that way. He insisted he was right.

Fast forward, Microsoft says this: "Devs are encouraged to develop for high end and scale down."

Awkwaaaaaaaaaaaard!

AMD: Fallout 4 VR will be the "Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog" of virtual reality

AMD's corporate vice president Roy Taylor has said that Bethesda's upcoming Fallout 4 VR title will be a "ground-breaking VR title" that will change the industry.

Speaking at VR World Congress, Taylor likened Fallout 4 VR to "the Mario, the Sonic the Hedgehog" of the VR industry. "It will change the way we think about VR," he said. "It will be an industry changer."

Fallout 4 VR is currently due for release sometime this year, with Bethesda vice president Pete Hines saying earlier this year it will be playable at this year's E3 conference.

Taylor also said that wires are one of the biggest challenges the VR industry faces today, something that AMD hopes to rectify with its newly announced partnership with Nitero, a chip manufacturer specialising in wireless VR.

"They're an inhibitor to what should be giving great freedom of movement," said Taylor. "One of the most important things we do next is get rid of those pesky wires. I'm very pleased to tell you that AMD has come up with a solution."

Using multi-gigabit transmission and integrated bean forming, Nitero has been specifically tailored to transmit stereoscopic video at "unheard of latencies." At the moment, Nitero is targeting next-gen VR devices rather than the current gen headsets, but when the technology does eventually arrive, it says it will offer integrated wireless that will completely revolutionise the consumer experience, so much so that "they'll never tolerate wires again".

I accidentally turned this from the Pro thread to the Jinca thread. Sorry about that!

The only part of Sony that concerns me in regards to Scorpio is the rumor that Sony is pushing hard to make sure they are the lead platform...especially when they have the marketing deals. They are pushing that "there's consistency of performance". Sounds a lot less anti-consumer than parity but it's pressuring parity.

One area we haven't got information on is how the Scorpio performs when DX12 is not being used. Even DF alluded to the fact that the DX12 should make a big difference based on it being baked into the hardware. Will non-dx12 games feel the wrath of the Jaguar? Still need to wait and see but it is a valid concern. If PlayStation is lead platform, games won't be DX12 based.

Sorry I kept you waiting for something you asked for, I've failed at my mission in life. All of these consoles use customized versions of the cpu and gpu they aren't using off the shelf parts.

That's not what I asked. We know Microsoft made significant changes from the CPU they had inside the XB1 and XB1S to the one they're using inside the Scopio. You insist on equating the Scorpio CPU as a slightly higher clocked version of what is in the PS4 Pro. For that to be remotely accurate, there needs to be some proof that the PS4 CPU was also upgraded from what was in the PS4 and not just an upclock, except of course I then found evidence that Mark Cerny himself (possibly a credible source) said that they didn't want to make any CPU changes because of compatibility issues.

Therefore, we know:
1. XB1 CPU was slightly better (faster clock) than PS4.
2. PS4 Pro CPU was (unless you can find a better source than Cerny) an upclocked PS4 CPU.
3. XB1 Scopio CPU was redesigned, not just an XB1 upclock, based on profiling information of shipped games. (this was confirmed in the multiple DF articles)
4. You really should stop saying the Scorpio CPU is the same as the Pro but just slightly higher clocked.

To honest purely based on the fact that it would have to be a GDDR5 memory controller with a huge GPU and coherent bandwidth to the GPU would require pretty major changes to the CPU. As I said before I wouldn't expect there to be huge performance deltas, if they wanted that they would of gone with Xen, or even a shared L2 cache. As it stands now its configuration, 2x 4 core groups which is something that is pretty particular to both jaguar and the consoles in general.

heres a quote from one of the few people on the planet to talk to microsoft about scorpio.

All signs point to the upclocked Jaguar cores we find in Xbox One, and Scorpio's CPU set-up is indeed an evolution of that tech, but subject to extensive customisation and the offloading of key tasks to dedicated hardware.

Even more telling.

To be clear, then: Project Scorpio doesn't feature Ryzen cores, but the Xbox team are not so concerned about this. "On the CPU side of things, we could still meet our design goals with the custom changes we made," Kevin Gammill points out. "At the end of the day we are still a consumer product. We want to hit the price-points where consumers want to purchase this. It's about balancing the two."

To be honest a upclocked jaguar is probably fast enough.

Here is another:

The new x86 cores in Scorpio are 31 per cent faster than Xbox One's, with extensive customisation to reduce latency in order to keep the processor occupied more fully, while CPU/GPU coherency also gets a performance uplift. There's significant hardware offloading too - some of which is inherited from Xbox One, some of which is radically new.

But, yeah, it's just an upclock, except for the stuff that's not.

Looks like nothing else on Scorpio until E3

I imagine if it were still Mattrick and we were announcing Kinect 3.0 instead of Scorpio, instead of "PLEASE JOIN US." it would say: "PLEASE CLAP".

Project Scorpio: The Most Powerful Place to Create and Play
by Phil Spencer

https://news.xbox.com/2017/04/13/project-scorpio-most-powerful-place-to-create-and-play/?ocid=ProjectScorpio_soc_omc_xbo_tw_Photo_lrn_4.13.1

At Team Xbox (AKA UnionVGF) we put gamers at the center of everything we do and we are driven to build the best platform on which to create and play games. We know that you can’t have one without the other, which is why we’ve invested so much in new development tools, publishing opportunities, hardware and services for developers and gamers alike. With Project Scorpio, we created a console with the goal of being the ultimate place for developers to realize their visions and the best place to play any Xbox game.

The creativity and innovation in our industry is driven by developers of all sizes. A single person can launch a game that becomes a global phenomenon or teams of hundreds can create the industry’s biggest blockbuster. At GDC in March, we announced the Xbox Live Creators program, opening up access for anyone to create and publish a game to Xbox One consoles and Windows 10 PCs. When you combine that program with dev mode, which enables any retail Xbox One to be a developer kit, you have the easiest path in the industry for game creators to publish their games broadly to console and PC, reaching millions of gamers around the world.

With Project Scorpio, we set a design goal of building the first true 4K console for gamers with an emphasis on compatibility so no one gets left behind. Once we locked that plan, we set our sights on building the world’s most powerful console development platform, which includes the new Xbox One Development Kit and a full suite of software to get every ounce of performance from the platform. Like the retail console, we built this special dev kit by evaluating every piece, from hardware to software and tools, with developers and compatibility in mind. We paid attention to logistical details, like dramatically speeding up how quickly a developer can move their work between PC and dev kit, and made it easy to program and test changes at the literal press of a button on the front of the box. The goal is to let creators focus their time and energy on bringing their game to life, and less of it on getting up and running on new hardware.

We’ve created the most powerful console with you in mind. We’ve created the most powerful development platform with our industry’s creators in mind. And, we’re unifying players across PC and console with Xbox Live, the fastest, most reliable multiplayer network and Beam, the next generation streaming service. Ultimately, we know you care most about great games, whether they be exclusive, multiplatform, independent or AAA. We are proud of the diverse lineup of games coming this year that will only be playable on Xbox One and will play better on Project Scorpio. We designed Project Scorpio to be the best console to play the blockbuster multiplatform games from our publishing partners, made it easy for recently released titles to upgrade to true 4K and for beloved, backward compatible titles to play better than ever before.

I’m proud of the progress made with Project Scorpio and what it will mean for the creators who fuel the passion of gamers around the world. On behalf of everyone at Team Xbox, thank you for your continued passion and support. We’re excited to unveil Project Scorpio and the amazing game experiences it powers at E3 this June.

Are some games not coming to PC this year that will only be on Xbox? If so, then Phil was not bulls***ting us when he said not all games will be coming to PC.

Why is this a thing? PC does not hold consoles back and it only increases the chance of success for new IPs while creating a larger community. Xbox gamers should want all Xbox games to be on PC.

Because of the Constant drum by detractors saying "no exclusives, so why bother"?
