Reports of PS4 hardware issues.

Who games 10-15 feet away? I have 20/10 vision with contacts and it would be impossible for me to game from that distance. I used to be 8ft away. Then I brought a chair right up to my TV and it's about 5ft max away from screen. It opened up the world of FPS for me. I don't suck as hard as I used to.

I game from 10-15 feet away. I literally don't know anyone that is 5 feet away when they game on a console. Monitor/TV size would be a major factor in distance. 8-12 feet i would say is what most people i know are from the TV.

Heck at 5 feet you are barely even able to use kinect 2.0- Single player about 4 ft. 7 in. (1.4 m) from sensor. Two players about 6 ft. (1.8m) from sensor. Play space will vary by game, application, sensor placement, and other factors.

Would be an interesting poll question BTW.

For single player I game 6 feet away on my 46" TV. But for MP especially FPS I game on my 23" 2 feet away.

I would like to know this as well. And how far away from the screen you are when playing. If you are like 3-4 feet away then i wouldn't be surprised. If you are 10-15 feet away then that is a big deal to me.

I expressed this same concern in the "owners thread" and I'm still awaiting feedback...

Your suggestion on screen distance being added to the equation is a good one, I would like to know this as well...

Viewing distance is certainly a matter of preference. Our first row of theater seating is 16' from our 119" diagnol screen(16:9 aspect)... any closer and it becomes nauseating. The standard 1.5 x screen width(when viewing 1080p) obviously doesn't apply to everyone.

I'll assume the light must not be a problem for most or we would see some comments on it this past week. Some might think its petty but it would drive me nuts if i saw it consistently on the tv screen. I am cautiously optimistic on it not being a factor for most.

As an engineer, I can explain the possible causea of the wobbling. I do not have a PS4, so these are just guesses.
When you make large pastic parts, it will warp, meaning, that it create a slight curve & not straight. This effect can be reduce, but hard to eliminated. The latter is actually not need, for the very fact that the surface the unit may be placed on may not be full flat anyway.
Other possible explanation, is internal stress. When you need to screw things together, for instance, unless the screw surface perfectly in line, will have deformation, as the screw force the surface to match. This effect is worse when you have parts that are of different material, Classically metal with plastic, even one type of plastic to another, due to different sinkage/expension due to heat. Talking about heat, if PS4 is as overheating as mention, the wobbling will get worst!
Having said all that, unless the curving is massive, the simple solution is to have rubber stopper at the bottom of the console, not unlike the ones people put for chairs & table, & anything with 4 legs. I will be surprise if they do not have these, just to save on a few cents.
As an engineer, I would be ashame to tell people that my design wobble as bad as the gif picture, if true. These is the type of quality you expect from Chinese knock off electronics.
Having said all these, its not a deal breaker for me to get a console. Even if you happen to live in area where vibrations are common, you can just buy some more rubber to put under, & call it a day. Its certainly an engineering joke, but not a deal breaker, & you can be sure they will fix this in new batch, probably with bigger rubbers.
The wobbling is a design feature, nothing to do with warping or stress or anything like that. They have 3 feet, 2 in the middle-ish on the line and 1 in the center of the bottom (right side). If you push on the gloss part it wobbles because it pivots on the 2 middle-ish feet.

I can see the light being a factor at night combined with plasma TV's. Other than that, most TV's are positioned higher than the resting place a persons hands would be at while holding the controller.

Like I said, I do not have a PS4. Not launch until 2 weeks later here. Having said that, they are trying a little too hard to save on a few cents, & this is the obvious one. I wonder what cost cutting they did in the inside.

That's why I do not buy console at launch.

Real question, anyone that already have a PS4, can tell me if the reflection off TV screen for the blue light is an issue?

I don't see it on my TV at all unless I'm a 18 inches from TV screen. I see it on my bezel where I sit from my TV which is about 5ft in a folding chair. That forcing myself to see it since the bezel of my TV isn't lined up to my controllers line of site.

.

Putting simple plastic or rubber feat on all corners would have actually been cheaper.
You think the designers were stupid or this was some kind of oversight?
The console doesn't wobble, unless your shaking your entertainment center or poking down on your console.
It partially floats in the air, it's a design aesthetic, like the ability to stand the console vertically and the LED light.
But hey I guess that's a hurrlol "design flaw" to people who prefer a simplistic massive rectangular box that can only lay flat.

can't believe you guys are still going on about the stupid wobble crap. I took mines out of the box and forgot all about that. I just put the system in the entertainment system and plugged it in and it won't be touched unless I put a disc game in. Don't care about a damn wobble unless it stopped me from gaming.

I prefer function before fashion (ESPECIALLY with electronics), but that's just me.

However, I think the wobble is not really the big issue some are making it out to be.

How is the overall feel? Does it feel like a quality product? I'm mostly concerned about the controller, I guess. Impressions?

It feels great...the only problem I had since getting the system was the Netflix app froze my whole system after I did the Max suggestions. I had to reset system and just deleted the app and reinstalled and it's working perfect. I also hate the fact that I can't pause a download either.

I don't think they were stupid - just trying to put the rubber feet inline with the look/appearance of the console. (i.e. mesh the rubber feet within the middle line so it doesn't look hokey sticking out)...

Can the rubber feet be removed? or more direct - do you insert the feet when you first open the package/PS4?

I'd agree - the main point is that they should've put the feet on all 4 corners - and if you plan on standing it up - you just don't install the feet at all.

You can probably remove the feet but I'll be there will be a heat issue. However small, the gap, there will need to be some airflow underneath to help dissipate heat.

If someone feels its needed, i would just add a rubber foot to the missing side before i would remove the others.

How loud is your PS4? Here's one user's console (sounds like something is wrong):

Wow - sounds like a Jet engine starting up.. :)

It may not be *that* loud - but in a room like he has with no carpet and open - I'm sure it's louder than "normal" living rooms.

My living room is almost the same ( less messy wires though.. :) ) - if my wife came in the room with that running she'd be like "WTH?!?!?!!?!!!"

Mine isn't at all and I sit pretty close the the television, then again I don't have a glossy screen either.

No widespread reported hardware issues so far, failure rate seems to be okay.

Remember if they sell a million units at launch, if the failure rate is even 1%, that's still 10000 units. Don't panic.
