Microsoft At E3 2018

Crackdown delayed to 2019, according to Jason Schreier.

Didn't he say Sea of Thieves was going to be 2018s PUBG?

He works for Microsoft so there's always a pro XBox spin on his tweets.
This is the second time in two weeks that someone claims he works for Microsoft....

He is a writer for a website called Windows Central.... A Microsoft FAN site.

That could be said for just about every genre though couldn't it? How many military themed FPS do we have? Sci fi games? racing games? Japanese rpgs? fighting games? I know it's easy to dismiss games when they are in a genre you don't spend much time playing, if it's not something you really follow it's easy to say "oh those are all the same" and most of us are probably guilty of doing that at some point but Fable is nothing like any of those other games.

Well....in terms of racing games, fighters, and Japanese rpgs there were absolutely a million times more available than the type of fantasy RPG that Fable is. I mean if you asked me to start listing games from those genres across console platforms the list would be so long it would break the forum.

But of course the reason is due to technical limitations. The SNES alone for example could have hundreds of 2D fighters or Japanese RPGs. Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, PlayStation, Xbox, N64, etc. had a butt ton of racers. The size and scope of a fantasy RPG such as Fable is the main reason the genre had a pretty small library when compared to the other genre's you mentioned.

He said he saw things at Rare that never appeared in the game. He was given the impression that there was going to be a lot more in the game than just the beta. I think Rare duped a lot of people. IGN got suckered to.

He doesn’t even like Halo. You can’t be an Xbox shill if you don’t think Halo has ever been good.

Insider Matt at Resetera said “And to be extra clear again, I'm excited and hopeful about the future for Xbox.” Seems to be positive about the stuff they’re doing behind the scenes. Noteworthy because he’s an actual Insider who wasn’t saying anything nice about them last year.

Significant change of tone in the past few days. Think I’ve bought in to your argument Andy. Microsoft realizes that they can’t coast this year. Wonder if they changed their E3 strategy after feeling the public perception recently. Things changed quick.

He's always been someone I believe even though when I brought him up in the past a few people here acted like he wasn't worth believing. He knows his stuff.

Changed their E3 strategy recently?... Maybe they are just staying the course that they talked about last year, but these things take time to be able to actually bare fruit. Game development takes years. I'm not sure how they would show anything at E3 that hasn't been incubated for some time (other than a blank announcement).

So all they have this year is Forza Horizon 4?
I'm not sure if the Crackdown thing is true or not, since it's not official yet, but I hope to hear some announcements for new title(s) to be released this year. I'm just not sure I believe MGS does that anymore, though.

Well the whole "Spencer isn't going to announce games early" stuff isn't a real thing since he never said that so they definitely could make some announcements of games that are in early development.

In terms of AAA games, yeah, I guess so.

I have heard several people say that Phil said no games will be talked about that are more than 18 months out. Phil didn't say this?

I'm pretty sure he never said that. He talked about announcing games some games too early and people jumped to that conclusion.

And in reality if they knew what was going to happen with Scalebound or even Crackdown its not that they would have announced them later they probably wouldn't have greenlit them at all.

I think it’s all come into focus now. In 2014, they wanted to make noise at E3 in order to stem the negativity. So they did the Playstation 3 reveal thing. Showed a bunch of games that weren’t games. They were just ideas. They backed themselves into a corner. In the end, we found out they were selling nice steak dinners to their customers while trying to use McDonald’s meat. AA funding on games being sold as AAA. So after overpromising and realizing they weren’t going to deliver, Spencer decided not to do that again. And they shouldn’t.

On the flip side, if Microsoft has AAA projects in the pipeline from AAA studios that are getting AAA funding, they should be confident in talking about those once those studios have a cohesive vision...whenever that vision comes together.

I suspect Fable is going to be an iteration of whatever original IP Playground had been pitching the past 2 years so there’s probably more there than we think.

Last year he said their focus for E3 was to show games no more than a year out. Couple that with him saying many times of the years that they aren't going to show games too early and end up with what you keep hearing.

Obviously, that could change anytime, though.

As for Horzion 4 being the only game this year, I don't see it to be honest. I would be shocked if Halo 6 or that Gears spin off doesn;t come this year too.

IF Crackdown gets delayed, they still need to show it off. Some form of Demonstration is necessary to set people's minds at ease. I don't mind it slipping, but they can't go another E3 without a showcase. They need to get better at hyping their releases.

I'm sure they will. What kind of show-off we will get is the real question. Will they show online and make good on epic destruction or will they keep it single player only. The latter would not be a good sign, imo.

Frankly moving Crackdown 3 away from Read Dead and Battlefield V is a smart choice. I would have bought it day one and this is obviously going to "look" bad but you dont want your sales to get cannibalized but then early next year you probably have to deal with Anthem.

Possibly the Division 2 as well.

Right forgot about that one but if I have to go up against 2 game I would probably pick Anthem + Division over Read Dead + Battlefield.

Don't think it matters to be honest. People who want Crackdown will buy crackdown, and since it will be in Gamepass day 1 it makes the competition kind of irrelevant.

Not to mention that Battlefield and RDR 2 will still be surging in sales early 2019 anyway.

Yeah the problem wasn't announcing too early Its having too poor of an investment and too poor of a vision. If their first party house is in order than everything should be on the table when it comes to when to announce a game. They don't need to announce early but they shouldn't be afraid to either.

I think it really matters. Crackdown wasn't some massive hit so it would get swallowed up by the Red Deads of the world. If they are serious about its success then it needs the right release window.

That game needs great destruction in SP as well. Maybe not to the same level, but it should still be very present and tied to how NPCs react to you.

Call me nuts, but its possible Microsoft is sending out all these rumors of late to get people off their scent. They've been SUPER silent for a while now.

I told a fellow forumite that there are "sources" who claim Crackdown is delayed, but I don't think its wise to run with that unless it officially comes from Microsoft.

My take, after the last showing with the gaming community ripping CD3 to shreds and Microsoft having to delay the game, I don't think it'll be delayed again. They've had ample time to remedy what was wrong (though I thought it looked like Crackdown, which is what I want as a fan..) with the game since then. I think it'll show up this E3, and delivered this year.
