I never have, but I guess it is sorta like gamefly. I think Redbox is border line now on going out of business. I personally am totally digital, but back when I did physical, I would only buy it with the game case.

Pretty much except you can go grab something without having to wait for it in the mail, and not having to be a member or anything. I also hate not having the game case, but for $4.99 I can't complain too much, and I got the season pass on sale for $4.50 when I got home.:txbcool: To be perfectly honest I'm not really into the digital only thing, I'd much rather have a disc without the original box than just a digital copy.

Is Redbox really going out of business? I just can't imagine that because they are one of the last places to rent physical copies, and there are still a TON of people out there who only do it that way, especially the over 40 or 50 crowd. I always see people at the Redboxes around here, and somewhat often have to wait in line when I go to one.

That was the rumor in 2016. I just Googled now, and nothing new.

Does anybody here ever BUY games from Redbox? I got Doom and the new Deus Ex (Xbox1) for less than 10 bucks! Some crazy low prices on games, and the discs were like new.

I have bought plenty of games ($10 and under) from Redbox.

Just becareful though. I was a victim of a Redbox scam awhile back where this scammer simply peeled off the barcode sticker and placed it back on the case and fake disc. Note: The kiosks are duped into thinking it is the actual game. I had to call the redbox support to get my money back.

Sony might come in third in November. Switch is going to sell however many they can ship, and Xbox is releasing a console with a ton of back-orders.

True in the US but I was talking about WW numbers. I think the PS4 will be slightly head of the X1 in second place behind the Switch this holidays (Nov + Dec).

Oh, WW, yeah, I agree.

WW = PS4
US NPD = PS4, with Switch/X being a toss up for second. I don't see how Switch/X can beat out all the PS4/PSVR deals out there

I think the X1 has even better deals than the PS4 out there. Just saw $189 at target including bundled games.

Yeah they are almost surely going to be 3rd this holiday in the states simply because they are not releasing new hardware. That being said I don't think it'll be a big split between Sony and MS. I'm also interested to see how many of the One X buyers are new customers vs people trading in older X1's, of course they won't tell us that but I'm pretty sure the majority of buyers will be current customers upgrading until they are able to bring the price down. I know I was the only one at the launch event at my local gamestop who was a new buyer, everyone else there traded in their old X1.

PSVR doesn't get included though

Best deal is probably $199 PS4 with $50 gift card at Gamestop but yeah I don't think deals are likely to make the difference between the two. They are both cheap ass hell right now.

Ya, though I was thinking people wanting to buy a system for the first time this gen now can get a PS4 and VR kit for around $500 total, so for anyone sitting on the sidelines itching for VR, it may be the gadget putting some people over the top to finally buy a console.

Kind of Kinect sold great and spurred 360 bundle sales when it launched for $150.

Hasn't the PS4 been beating the XBO pretty handedly over the past four or five months in the US? I'm not so sure a new $500 console is automatically going to put MS over the top in Nov/Dec.

It's pricing like this that makes me think next gen is coming sooner rather than later. I've always thought the $199.99 price point was the biggest sign that these companies are readying a new $399.99 system. It seems like Microsoft and Sony could price drop both consoles to $249 next year and $199 in 2019.

For reference, the XBox 360 and PS3 were $299 dollars in 2012 (year before XBO and PS4 launch) and they both cut price to $249 during the holidays of that year. 2019 is going to be an interesting year.

Nah! A next gen anything is years off.

PS4 is selling too good for Sony to do one and MS oonly just released the X1X.

You can't compare this gen. to last as tthe business model has changed...plus, last gedn lasted 8 yeaarrs.

PS4 launches in 2013.
PS4 Pro (mid gen) launches in 2016.
PS5 launches in 2019.

Remember last gen lasted so long in large part due to Sony's pricing gaf with the PS3. Sony was in no rush to have a short gen because for the first two or three years, they were just trying to knock the PS3's price down. The PS4 and XBO launched at market friendly prices, sold at a profit from day one, and were criticised for being relatively weak compared to prior generations by tech hounds.

I think these companies know that a $199 console attracts an entirely different audience than a $399 console. The PS4 is already cheaper than the PS3 in 2012, so I wouldn't be surprised if Sony is starting to ready an early launch for their PS5.

Plus, the x86 architecture makes the transition even easier for Sony. It's a far easier sell asking gamers to buy a $399 console in 2019 that plays all their PS4 games out of the box.

Let's not forget that Sony probably likes having a head start and price advantage over Microsoft's next XBox.

As of now, I think it's safe to say that next gen either starts in 2019 or 2020. The current consoles are simply priced too aggressively for that not to be the case.

Unless PS4 sales take a massive drop Sony have 0 reason to bring out a new console for at least 4 years

4 years, IMO, is out of the question. It's either 2019 or 2020 at this point.

The reason Sony readies for a PS5 launch sooner rather than later is based in large part by the price of the PS4. Sony knows the people who buy a $249 or $199 PS4 at this late stage in the game are not those they are targeting with at $399 or, although less likely, a $499 PS5 launch.

So if the PS4 is still selling well in 2019, it's not because of tech enthusiasts like you and me. That well has run dry. It's because families and fringe gamers find it to be an attractive offer. Sony wants to attract people like you and me in 2019. They can't do that with a cheap PS4.

Does anyone know how many consoles Microsoft and Sony sold in 2012? I tried Googling it to no avail.

Last gen lasted so long because consoles were selling very well. Sony didn't make a pricing gaf with PS3, it still sold well at launch and overall.

Could 2019 be the year of PS5? maybe, but I don't see Sony being in any rush while the current hardware is flying off the shelves, and remember, Sony is also making vast sums of money from PSN subscriptions now. Their needs for a next gen are far less than last gen and given Sony's huge losses from other divisions it makes sense to ride this gravy train to empty.

Only time will tell, though. No point going on and on about it right now.

It's an awful big leap to assume that the PS5 will be able to play the PS4 games straight out of the box; Sony has always done BC via hardware (see "boost mode" on the Pro for current reference). Hardware BC costs money and die space. I think given Sony's position as the clear market leader, the amount of profit per console they have to be getting, and my expectation that they can't just do BC and know that MS can, I would not be surprised at all if Sony's aiming to push this generation even longer.

I’m gonna give this a go :yteeth:

When the next version of the switch is released they’ll just do what Sony did and duplicate the hardware, only this time said duplicate/clone would be in the dock. So it’ll be like having dual graphics cards when in dock mode.

PS4 was selling 2 good for a Pro to be released as well.
If X keeps up the pressure i could see a 2019 release if not 2020.

What a dirty trick! Some people have way too much time on their hands I guess. I am always concerned about scratched discs but I never thought about straight up fake discs. Was it just a blank disc or did a giant c*** or something come up on your screen when you popped it in? lol

This reminds me of when I bought the Fight Club anniversary blu ray and this popped up as the menu for 10 seconds. I was so confused.

Pro doesn't intefere with good sales, though. It is win win for Sony.

What pressure? Tge X selling well shouldn't surprise anybody.

I think the tech hurdles will be overcome much easier for BC with the move to a new gen than they have been in the past, they aren't going from Nvidia to AMD, they aren't going from the Cell to a pretty weak CPU etc. They likely took time testing boost mode before allowing everyone to use it simply because they didn't want their new console revision causing problems, don't forget all games still worked right away they just didn't boost anything until they tested it more.

The X selling well early shouldn't surprise anyone, seeing how well it sells after the launch period ends will be more telling. MS expects the X1S to be the top seller and I think most everyone else should as well, $500 is still too high of a price point for most people.

I think a lot of this enthusiasm comes from also having the "weaker" console since launch, now a lot of xbox fans can feel better about the hardware they have and no longer have to hear the "PS4 is more powerful" stuff. Xbox One owners have more reason to upgrade than PS4 owners did, the jump between the PS4 and Pro is smaller than the jump from the One S to the X and Sony already had the most powerful console on the market when the Pro came out.

I still think another more powerful PS4 revision could be in the works before a true next gen PS5, not saying that's a sure thing but I wouldn't be shocked.

Not sure why MS didn't put the Xbox One S at 189 on Sunday just like Sony did on Sunday for PS4 1tb at 199. Seems long time for MS to wait till Thursday for the $189 price tag. As MS just let Sony have a 4 day head start before MS deals even happen.

I still think MS has a shot though because of this month being a launch of new Hardware, depends how well Xbox One S does at $189 on BF. If it near the $199 PS4 1TB in monthly rankings than I think X1 will win.

Guess time will tell this weekend when its on sale and see how far it gets on Amazon Rankings.

If Nintendo can ship enough Switches...
It will win holiday 2017.

I agree with that but unfornately I don't think switch will win cause it will have stock issues. My Best buy only had a mountain of 10 switches where as they had a ton of xbox one s's for $189 sale on Thursday and PS4 1tb galore for $199. Mountains were huge for both. Switch having 10 isn't much for a BF sale. But its obvious Nintendo been having stock issues since launch. As usually BB is sold out of switch here soon as they get them in and they usually only get 4-5 at a time.
