NPD:

Nintendo revealed today that its hybrid home/handheld Switch was the top-selling gaming hardware for October, according to industry-tracking firm The NPD Group. That puts it ahead of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. But Switch wasn’t the only Nintendo system to outsell Microsoft’s and Sony’s devices. The Super NES Classic Edition system, which collects 21 classic 16-bit games in a miniaturized Super NES-like device, was the No. 2 best-selling piece of gaming hardware for the month.

“When combined with the NIntendo 3DS family of systems, Nintendo systems accounted for two-thirds of all video game hardware sold in the United States for the second month in a row,” reads a Nintendo press release.

The company confirmed that total U.S. hardware sales were over 1 million units, so consumers picked up at least 666,000 Switch, Super NES Classic, and 3DS consoles.

It’s funny that DOOM is releasing for Switch because Nintendo is doomed.

Xbox One X debuts with just 1,344 units sold in Japan. Also, it looks like is the lowest debut for a console in Japan.

Other launch week sales in Japan, for comparison:

XB1 26K
360 62K
PS4 309K
PS4 Pro 65K

Not sure why they even bother with Japan.
For sake of image. It's like famous clothing brands.

Guess what? Every major high end clothing brand says they have stores in expensive areas.... Paris, NY, LA etc.....

Many of these locations can be money losers. But they need to plug they have a footprint in those trendy cities for the sake of it.

Pretty sure console sales in Japan have been trending down for decades, but no doubt the Xbox brand has plummeted the most.

When it comes to certain things (durables), Japan favours their own, although iPhone is big there (exception some reason).

Although for things that are more about trendiness and image (clothes, shoes), Japanese people favour western brands.

They have to give the appearance of trying, even though internally I think they've given up. In terms of PR, it wouldn't look good if MS completely abandoned the Japanese market. They've got to present the semblance of trying, at least.

I think they want to get Japanese games on their console though. Not sure how they can do that if they can't sell their console there. A case of chicken and the egg.

Edit: fixed phone autocorrect typo.

That just sounds silly to me.

I beg to differ. To me it looks worse that they keep trying and failing.

Cut your losses and move on...It isn't llike consumers in other markets care and will abandon tge brand. And I doubt investors would care enough to do similar either.

I hear ya. For gaming where things are tracked, I'd bail ship from Japan too.

Then again, maybe the time and effort for these Japanese launches is so little, MS doesn't care. It's not like Spencer and gang are focusing lots of time doing conferences, making first party games and such for that market.

For clothing, it's not so bad because sales of a brand aren't disclosed by store or city, so nobody can see how well or poorly it's doing.

Hm, "quite a demand for the console, and no consoles on the shelves." Funny that MS apparently only shipped 1400 or so for the opening week.

Phil Spencer when he hears that Japan is actually interested in the console and they only shipped a small number...

"What the actual f*** Japan??"

That's actually more than its sold throughout the rest of the year

Phil taking a page out the of Nintendo playbook of playing hard to get. :hehe:

Surprised to see 3 Xbox One consoles in the top 50 including the Xbox One X, outselling the PS Pro and it is still not available.

Call of Duty on Xbox outselling the PS version too.

Will be interesting to see Nov NPD tallies, and how well a $500 system that is out of stock much of the time compares to other systems selling for $200-400.

Either stuff isn't selling, or console stock is way up.

Have been at various Walmarts over the past month and inside the glass case are endless X1s, PS4s, PS4 Pros, PSVRs and Switches.

Two things I haven't seen though in that time.... X1Xs and SNES Minis.

Battlefront sales down 60% in the UK

  1. Call of Duty: WW2
  2. Star Wars Battlefront 2
  3. FIFA 18
  4. Pokémon Ultra Sun
  5. Pokémon Ultra Moon
  6. Assassin's Creed Origins
  7. The Sims 4
  8. LA Noire Remastered
  9. Super Mario Odyssey
  10. Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2
Skyrim VR is 19th and switch version 26th

They gearing up for Black friday?

I want to get a bunch of Black Friday games for my Xbox, but I already have so many that I am behind on :(. I still need to finish Recore, Horizon 3, Forza 7, FarCry 4, Witcher 3, Cuphead, Assassin's Creed Origins, Call of Duty WWII, Destiny 2, Battlefield 1, Project Cars, Dark Souls 3 and even Ori. I haven't finished all those games, and yet I want to buy more. I must be sick.

I'm liking the GameStop's Black Friday deal: $200 PS4 1TB slim plus $50 GameStop gift card. It's going to be tough but I think the PS4 might win this holiday.

This is the longest time GTA V has been out of the UK charts since it launched

Sony might come in third in November. Switch is going to sell however many they can ship, and Xbox is releasing a console with a ton of back-orders.

Does anybody here ever BUY games from Redbox? I got Doom and the new Deus Ex (Xbox1) for less than 5 bucks each! Some crazy low prices on games, and the discs were like new.

I never have, but I guess it is sorta like gamefly. I think Redbox is border line now on going out of business. I personally am totally digital, but back when I did physical, I would only buy it with the game case.
