Day 1 no internet? There might be a problem...

My only concern is traffic on launch day. Tens of thousands downloading that update all at once? That might take a while.

I share that concern. I would really like to play games on day one, not just download tons of updates. Hoping it's as painless as possible.

f*** me. The battlefield patch is supposedly 1.8 gigs. The Fifa digital download is meant to be about 20 gigs. I'll be lucky if I'm playing any games by the following day.
I am pretty sure the download will be fast. You can play games while they download/install

Oh ok. So they have to wait for it to be delivered in the mail? Guess people who don't have internet are used to that.

Now that Block Buster has gone out of business, you don't really need the blu-ray player anymore.

It is the same with the PS4 but you know what Sony had the smarts to do - to announce at the same time you would need a day one update that this update could be download from the internet and ran via USB or that you could request a disc with the update.

At some point people need to stop defending Microsoft for their brain dead marketing and PR staff. 99% of Microsoft's woos are caused by dumb communication and marketing.

The only people complaining about this on this thread are not getting an x1, or are only claiming to get an x1 to more effectively concern troll.

When the iPhone came out it required people download and install iTunes on their home computer to activate it, and there were massive activation faults for the first month, and that device went on to be one of the most successful consumer electronics of all time, pretty much from the get go.

Microsoft has been very up front and open about what they intend to do with the X1. That it would be an always on console has been apparent to me and other fans from very early on.

Yes, there is a whole sale backlash against the Play station in the lame stream media right now, but as far as I can tell that was entirely caused by Play station fans.

So anyone want borrow some of my bandwidth?

1 gig down
1 gig up. :bang:Im ready! Although I haven't seen anything above 875 mb sec Not complaining.

Question... With these new servers. They going leave them wide open or going to be throttled? Anyone want to guess? Im thinking game downlowds they should leave it open. Gamplay Im praying they do.;)

You could activate an iPhone at an AT&T store.. and the entire point of a smartphone is to be connected to networks.

I'm not personally concerned for my own uses, but I do worry for PR purposes what is going to happen. It IS in fact unprecedented to sell a game console that can't play games without a download.. and it's not something you'd expect necessarily buying one.

MS could face a big backlash from the start if people have issues.. but I think it will eventually be forgotten. Just a matter of if it will be another hiccup in MS's PR campaign.

It's the kind of thing that I know my local news would cover for instance.

I hope there is a big backlash generally if ms screw up they treat us all to free games the consoles new so would have to be something good, i'll take zoo tycoon seeing as it wont sell well and they can make much more dlc money if everyone has the game.

I am not complaining and actually wished MS would have had a spine and not caved on the original 'connected' policy. I am just saying - they could be entirely smarter with every PR move they make instead of constantly feeding the trolls.

Didn't they say that you could use any internet(including phone) for this?

I personally think the main reason they caved was the issue with the military. When that started to happen they changed policy.

That would of been the connecting once a day check, you'd tether your phone and the file needed would be a few kb's so it wouldnt use much mobile internet. You could do this with a phone but would likely be most peoples monthly usage on one file...

My only concerns are around hacking/DDoS attacks on XBL in the early going. It would be a "perfect" time to stick it to MS, thus leaving us end users out in the cold.

Could they release a patch online and allow you to upload via a USB? Maybe it's time for OXM to start including discs in their magazines again. They used to offer updates to the backwards compatibility back when MS was still updating the 360.

Definitely. I have to work that day and won't get home until the evening. How long am I going to have to sit and wait for that thing to download? I guess the cloud will be tested!

If this takes anymore than a few minutes, I'll lose my mind.

USB sticks, flash DVD's. Plenty of options.

On the flip, Im laughing my ass off at a certain user that honestly believes press and print for Xbox One was just pushed up to meet the launch of the Playstation. You do realize that even 3 months ago, simply changing the memory or bus would have set them back another year? This s*** ain't fast food. I can't understand why some of you think it's just magic and fairy dust that gets the insides of these consoles together.
