Day 1 no internet? There might be a problem...

Why don't they just add a switch on the Xbox one?

It has it pointed to DRM on and all we have to do is switch it to DRM off..

If it's that small that would be a good thing. Everything was pointing to it being a larger file, including MS exec's "20 mins" comment. Maybe it's just a pre-release patch for devs and journalists to get going. Either way the smaller the better for everyone.

Um, if you are buying a console and you don't have a broadband internet connection you should probably have your priorities checked. How can any family in this day and age function without an internet connected life?

On the flip, Im laughing my ass off at a certain user that honestly believes press and print for Xbox One was just pushed up to meet the launch of the Playstation. You do realize that even 3 months ago, simply changing the memory or bus would have set them back another year?
The hardware decisions were made years ago. Starting manufacturing before the OS was finished has nothing to do with the hardware in it or changes to the hardware. I hope you're not seriously trying to compare software and hardware changes, it's stupid to conflate the two things.

Its not so much priorities but, that certain parts of (even 1st world) countries are even totally devoid of internet, or have internet that is outrageously expense and very slow.

For those who live in areas where the internet is outrageously expense and very slow, I think Xbox 360 is a better choice.

My only concern is traffic on launch day. Tens of thousands downloading that update all at once? That might take a while.

Well if the update is 500MB it will be downloaded in a minute on my connection, so that's a LITTLE while.

After that I'm going to download 150GB+ games on day one :)
MS got ALOT of servers, no prb

DRM on console different than DRM going onto discs. THIS HAS BEEN KNOWN FOR MONTHS. Why yet another thread of pointless complaining? Stay with your current gen systems for fukk's sake cry babies. This is just tiring and annoying now. If I was mod I'd ban the majority of people complaining in this damn thread.

Seriously.

The rumor is XB1 was scheduled to launch in 2014, but was pushed ahead to meet PS4's launch, so they had to begin manufacturing before the OS was anywhere near a usable state. In my opinion they started manufacturing the consoles pre-180 and had plans for a day one update regardless, due to the rushed schedule. That's just rumors and my opinion, but it makes sense to me. The 180 probably set them back as well, since they probably needed to add disc authentication and other things.

No. I'm not. Just part of your post that makes little to no sense and is devoid of any of the scheduling constructs that go into fabbing. You don't just push a button to get the process to move faster. Their timeline was set, a long time ago.

The only reason why we have a day one patch was due to the people crying and biatching about MS first policy which its still not going to change anything.

Except the leaked roadmaps showed a 2013 release, so those rumours were unfounded before they even started. I'm more likely to believe that the 180 put things behind, rather than a pushed up launch

It's like the entire Internet has fallen into a black hole and time traveled back to June.

Hey guys, is Mattricks still working at MS on your end?

Wow, I just thought of a funny application of this whole thread. The people who get an x1 day one edition who don't have internet won't be able to complain about it.

Say when I'm doing the update and my internet goes down will my console be bricked?
then your sh*t out of luck.

Really all of sudden people have trouble with internet going down everywhere. You better call your provider and worry about that.

Far as console goes, you can always put it back to restore and do it again.

My internet never goes down(Thankfully) But if it does that night...I will be pissed off as I will be chucking the console out of the window!!!!

Your console wont be bricked, you'd resume the download once your internets back or you can find another local network?
Like how updates work on the 360 currently if the DL gets interrupted. It seems like people asking these questions don't have a 360 hooked up to the internet for the past so many years.

Both consoles likely have a "recovery mode" you can boot into to reset the system back to its original state.

Or a brain? at an absolute minimum turning off the console would forget you'd partially downloaded it. Do the check again and notice you dont have the update and ask you to download it. That would be what could of been done prior to the 360...

That would depend on if they reserve HDD space for a recovery image. I don't think you'd need one though, the 360 doesn't have such a feature.

Especially with a virtualized OS, the download would be self contained until completed. The bigger worry would be not the internet cutting out, but your power cutting out mid install. That is a problem for everything. Hopefully the X1 and PS4 can do a quick save state under power drop conditions. At least the X1 has the 8GB NAND drive, so hopefully it does system updates utilizing that.
