Football/Soccer Video Games Discussion

I really love FIFA14 though it's not without it's fault, many already mentioned.

That said, I've played about 150 Pro Club matches and of those about 100 were drop-in's. Of those 100 drop-in's I would say about 70% were played without any ridiculous play (ie goalies coming out, people totally hogging the ball or calling for passes when out of position).

Moving onto to Clubs the play is much better on a consistent basis. Our club have managed to rise to Division 6 and the talent improves along the way. We have 5 guys in our club though the most we usually play with at one time is 3. I'd say we are only slightly above average in skills though we have lost more matches than we've won. The most frustrating part of FIFA for me is not the other people acting like morons but trying to reel in the AI controlled players to play smart.

If you are having issues with morons in drop-in club matches I'd highly suggest you try to join a club. Much better teamwork on both sides of the ball. Feel free to shoot me a friend invite as we have room for more, this goes for anyone interested. We play most evenings from 9pm cst - whenever. "Smokin FC" is the name of the club.

Also not sure why it was said you can spam the sprint button throughout the match - running down your stamina will have you injured halfway through the 2nd half if you held it down the whole time. It also would make your defending and skill moves terrible as you would be overrunning your marks and lose the ball often on offense.

Sorry I should have clarified that I was speaking about FUT online seasons matches. Offline its awesome. I built a very good team in a week and have won the title 3 times on my way into division 6. And thats without spending a dime of real money. I mean buying and selling players is the whole point. Why do people want to give EA more money and just take easy street opening packs?

I've never tried a club game. I can only envision 20 players all racing for the ball at once..lol. Do people actually play their positions properly in that?

The drop-in club matches are a mixed bag like I noted, but if you join a club and play either seasons (8 games) or tournaments via your club you generally get really good matches.

I haven't really messed with FUT because I see myself getting into the real $$$ drain aspect of it and really to compete online you either need to do that or invest a huge amount of time to earn coins free.

You should try Pro Clubs - it has the RPG aspect of building your player and by rewarding good play to build your player most will play pretty reasonable. You are docked points (which translate into more XP to build your pro) for playing out of position so I think for the most part people want to build their player up as quickly as possible which means making good passes, not losing the ball on the dribble, and playing their position.

Pace has long been king in Fifa. They try and fix that every year but it's difficult. It's no where near as bad this year as in previous, but chipped through balls are ridiculously accurate at the moment so all you have to do is get a pacey striker and knock it over the top for him to chase.

It doesn't matter if your pro is a striker playing in defence or you're playing in defense but end up sitting up front all game. The latter won't do much for your in-game average rating but that doesn't mean anything, I've ignored it for years. To build your pro you simply just need to play the game. You will upgrade him in two ways: playing Clubs related mods (obviously) and spending Football Club coins (an in-game currency, not a premium currency). FC Coins are earned by playing any of the modes and skill games.

Reality is limited in scope by your perception of the world around you; that which you cannot see or infer may not necessarily be a part of reality. Likewise, things you may think you perceive, infer or observe may be incorrect according to another person's conception of reality. Therefore it is just as likely that you, sir, are the idiot.

I shall now disappear in a puff of smoke, and leave you to ponder this question: is it real?

Meh that's why i tend to stick with career and ultimate team, not to mention the lag i get because of my positioning, and i'm pretty sure theres no match making so everytime i'm stuck with a US or UK opponent, that usually quit

I don't play FIFA online anymore. I got to division 5 before I quit. Too much laggy matches of games based on luck. And the dreadful FIFA lock up where I can't switch players nor move so i can only sit there and watch them score on set pieces I could have easily defended.

Drop in matches are really 'anything goes'. They can go anywhere from awful to fantastic. It's also rare that you'll get actually 10 v 10. Usually they'll be anything between 3 v3 to 6 v 6. Club matches are much better because usually it means playing with friends and you've all agreed positions and tactics in advance. Best played using 3v3 or 4v4 I've found. My club has 6 members but usually not all on at the same time.

FYI, drop in matches in Fifa 14 were changed to 5v5. 10v10's in previous Fifa's were chaotic, often laggy and not very fun as all it took was one or two greedy or stupid players to ruin the matches for everybody else on your team. I believe you can still do 10v10 games in normal online team play though.

I didn't know that. I might venture into Drop ins a bit more so.

You will still find idiots, but generally they are much better now. You'll usually see more of the ball and I've noticed more team players in the admittedly few games I've played. Clubs is as good as it ever has been but it still saddens me that EA don't care about the mode at all really. It receives some basic improvements every few years at most.

Really bummed about this news. Love following the World Cup and love FIFA '14 on my nextgen console, it was a nice upgrade over the prior gen version.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-02-06-ea-announces-2014-fifa-world-cup-brazil-game

They say they are going to put some FUT World Cup stuff into FIFA 14 but that really doesn't cut it for me. In the past, the WC versions have been great fun and usually have some extra tweaks they didn't get into the regular versions.

They must be regretting over this right now. The logic behind this decision must be that 360/PS3 market is still the widest - but as they stated in recent stockholder meeting, next-gen sales are much higher than expected and is leading sales, while old ones are falling really fast.

Yeah it must just not be worth the effort to port it based on projected sales. Not that I'd probably buy it, but it is a shame. Fifa is a great game on next gen. I'm surprised how much time I spend playing it.

A shame. But honestly, do Fifa look that much different on next gen console? But still, when, you have a next gen console, why return to 360 to play Fifa.

i am so annoyed

i think they could have done some epic stuff with the presentation on next gen.

To a casual observer you may say the difference is minor, but as someone who plays daily I think the change is significant. And not just in the graphics, but the actual gameplay is improved in part by the better visuals allowing you to play better defense and control the ball. The game is far from perfect, the daft AI is probably the most annoying aspect, but I find it entertaining enough to play it nightly.

Their main team will be working on Fifa 15 for the PS4 and X1(and whatever upgrades and improvements that entails),and a second team will be doing the World Cup game.
When the second team is finished with the World Cup they'll do a quick FIFA 15 for PS3/360 with next to no upgrades/improvements.

That's what I reckon anyway.

EA did tweet out that they would be adding some WC stuff to FUT on next gen consoles but would have to wait for more details. Since it is in FUT only it is 1) hard to get excited about 2) will carry a fee ... so much for hoping EA would just provide their fanbase with a nice tournament add-on for the existing game.

I personally could care less about the WC game since the description sounds like crap. It sounds like they took the shortcomings of their game engine and turned it into bullet points on the box. The lack of momentum and ability to spin on a dime is now a 'feature' just as is the ability to perform over the back headers or as we know it today - warp through the defender guarding you. I am surprised they did not add 'New Teammate Controls allow you to direct the action and take control of your Teammates"...since, you know...otherwise they just stand their like stupid lummoxes.

I cannot wait for PES 2015 on next gen so I can say so long to FIFA.

PES couldnt get their act together for 8 years last gen, what makes you think this gen will be any different?

they have totally gone off rails. atleast PES6 to PES2012 on xbox 360 had SOME of the magic of PES in terms of satisfaction when scoring a goal but they even lost that in the last 2 games so i dont see a way back

You'll hate Fifa once they finally crush PES. Once EA wipes out the competition they stop innovating and just barely update the game each year. They did it in the NHL game and Fifa will be the same way.

Yep. Many thought the change of engine would bring about the changes needed, but it ended up the same crap but slightly prettier and better animations. Although, given what is missing from that game, it would appear it was a total rush job. All we can do is hope that Konami get it together for PES15 on new hardware.

That is kinda high with a $399 price around the corner.

I am looking to get my son a XBO and am looking for a deal late june to around mid julyish. So keep him in mind pls :) and let me know if you seen some deals.
