Football/Soccer Video Games Discussion

Exactly, although over the years there's only been incremental changes, added altogether with the additions you just mentioned, I think we're getting close to what we could possibly expect from a football game. I've been playing Fifa from Fifa 95, always been a fifa man even when Pro evo was being touted as the best football game but over the last 3-4 years EA have definitely upped there game with Fifa.

My mind boggles at what FIFA might be like come this gens end. If you recall back to those FIFA games on 360 compared to FIFA 14 and the changes are immense. If FIFA was a 2 year dev syscle I think they would get far more praise, but because each games has little improvements it tends to get overlooked a bit.

I hope at gamescom we get some good, long off screen gameplay to see the A.I in action. A.I has always been the biggest issue with FIFA.

You can see the huge difference between Madden and Fifa. EA has no competition in American Football and it shows. I dread the day PES goes away. 2k stopped making hockey games and EA stopped doing anything to the game.

Yea it's ashame, NFL2K was a better game all around.

They need to improve Manager Mode badly. Wasn't to be able to watch the match for the sides and make changes as the game goes on.

all 20 stadiums! hell yeah, about f***ing time

i am really looking forward to this game, but also looking forward to seeing the feedback on PES at gamescom

Nice. Have to say, I am extremely optimistic about this game. Hope gamescom brings us some actual gameplay.

Have heard nowt on PES. A little strange since it should release in a few short months. I fear they will still be stuck in the PS2 era though...hope I am wrong.

Worried the introduction of goal line tech might see the game ' fixing' some shots stop they land on the line to add to the tension.

You meant previously, they do not have all the stadiums?

The loss of the Brazilian teams is a small blow, lots of former greats in there who are great to buy in career mode or ultimate team. All 20 Premiership stadiums is pretty huge though, great additions. Hopefully we'll get some news on improvements and changes to the game modes at Gamescom, but lots of good improvements over Fifa 14 so far.

I think i'm buying Fifa 15. It'll be the first Fifa game i've bought besides 06 for $3 lol. I'm not a huge soccer fan, excuse me football fan.. but with the new gen and all it's time to support a great franchise.

FIFA 15 - Team Management Indepth Analysis

fifa15_xboxone_ps4_teammanagement_squad.jpg

It's probably 'the' most requested change to the FIFA formula and for FIFA 15 we get it. Brand new team and tactical management. Here's whats inside.

The new Team Management setup, as well as looking very pretty is broken down in to five key sections.Squad, Formation, Roles, Instructions and Tactics which we'll talk you through below, detailing all the new options and features you'll be able to utilise in FIFA 15.

fifa15_xboxone_ps4_teammanagement_squad.jpg

This screen allows you to control your team selection, subs and reserves but as you can see it has a brand new look for FIFA 15. Gone are the tedious vertical lists, and in their place a dynamic view of your team (including player faces) which allows you to quickly switch players and make minor tweaks to their base positioning. To change a player position you simply hover over the player and press X (Xbox) then, you move the analogue stick, that's it. Good eh?

You can also use this screen to compare players and pressing Y (Xbox) will bring up a list of the best available substitutes for you to choose from. It's an incredibly slick and simple interface and having real player faces adds a welcome layer of familiarity. Player fatigue is shown by the green bar beneath each player and when players gain, or lose form white directional arrows appear to indicate their level of form either positive or negative.

fifa15_xboxone_ps4_teammanagement_formations.jpg

This is where you choose your formation, but again instead of lists, it's a very quick, and very visual grid layout for you to choose from. There are plenty of pre-set options here to choose from but custom tweaks can be made to individual positioning by going back to the squad tab and moving your chosen player. Having a clear visual representation of each formation is the major benefit here and you should have your ideal formation applied in no time at all.

fifa15_xboxone_ps4_teammanagement_roles_playersele.jpg

The Roles screen allows you to set your team captain and set piece takers. Individual options are available for penalties, left corner, right corner, short free kicks and long free kicks. To get a better idea of who to choose for each role you can hover over a player and pressing A (Xbox) will launch an overlay which shows their key stats relating to the specific Role you've just selected. Handy.

Now this is where it gets very interesting because you can now control individual player behaviour on the pitch, to a level never seen before in FIFA. The table below details all the options which can be chosen, and which positions they become active for. Some positions like CAM, may have multiple instructions you can apply, allowing you to control that players on-pitch behaviour down to the finest of detail. The best thing about this is that settings changes have a really clear and profound effect on the pitch. So lots of trial and error will be needed.

***An option called Balanced is the default setting for most player Instructions. The positions column lists examples only to give you an idea of where the different instructions can be applied. This may change in the full release.

Plenty of options there as you can see which allow you to govern the way your individual players play and thus your team as a whole. The good news is that the impact on-pitch is quite profound with wingers who are told to stay forward, visibly slow to track back (if at all) and in reverse, fullback who are instructed to 'Always Overlap' become a constant menace from the flanks.

fifa15_xboxone_ps4_teammanagement_tactics_default.jpg

The Tactics tab you will recognise because it's basically the same as in FIFA 14 in terms of options and layout. But a number of pre-set tactics are available for your to choose from called Counter Attack, High Pressure, Possession, and Long Ball. Selecting one these options will allow you to view the individual settings applied underneath, but if none of these are take your fancy you can choose Custom and build your own.

Every time you make a modification to your teams setup in any of the above tabs it's automatically saved in to a Team Sheet. These Team Sheets are accessible from the main Team Management screen which you can Edit, Create or Import. You can store up to six individual Team Sheets which can be renamed to make them easy to manage. When playing Career Mode i quickly setup Team Sheets for my Main XI, Cup Team (which contained my Youth/Reserves players ready to go in the starting lineup) and Europe Home and Europe Away to give me plenty of different tactical options and setups.

What does Import mean? Well if you're playing Career Mode and happen to stumble on a great formation, you can use the Import function to copy that formation to a different Career Mode save and other FIFA modes too. Huzzah.

When you get to the Play Match screen, Team Sheets can be selected easilly with the RS meaning you don't even need to go in to Team Mangement unless you need to make a substitution, or another alteration. Simple.

Sounds fooking awesome to me. I have been screaming for this since FIFA 11 and now it appears to have come. This is great news for manager mode players.

Off-screen, no audio gameplay from gamescom

Gotta say I do love the new UI on display here. As for the rest of the game, is hard to tell. Really need to play it.

One more month. Bring it on.

Unfortunately it is more like 6 weeks :(

I was just watching the IGN gamescom live demo, and have to say the new tactics screen is awesome, and the instructions per player is sweet. The goal keepers actually look descent as well. The players look as if they react/move quicker when on the ball too. I really like the new highlights too. Looks a bit more like a story, has the look of a higher production piece.

All in all I am hugely optimistic for this game. Looking forward to the demo.

Do you think the player tactic and positioning will also make it over to pro clubs? It sounds like the stuff I've always wanted in that mode. I was watching a few ultimate team matches as well, and the players do seem to react way better. It looks faster in pace than 14 as well.

Will you have your x1 in time for this? Grouchy just picked up one last week and has this game on order so the squad is shaping up

Is hard to tell what will make it where. If I had to guess I would say it will not be in pro clubs.

The new Park the bus and all out attack ( you know, left & right on D-pad during game)seem to have a much greater impact too. Which is awesome for those close online games.

Where did you see UT matches for FIFA 15 ?

On Ign. I presume they were UT matches cos the guys playing were doing all that stuff around player tactics before playing. Come to think of it, they might have just been head to head games.

Think they likely were. Shame though, some UT footage featuring the new loan player system would have been nice.

I love the changes to team and player tactics. Very similar to the recent Football Manager games, and that's fine with me. Having target men actually play like target men is a very welcome change for me. Has there been any news on career mode or any other modes yet?

Nothing on Career mode that I have seen.
Ultimate team now has player loans. That is about all I have heard for that.

i played like a half of a half before i left.. it felt same, but no way did i have enough time to judge proper
