I recommend you at least give it a shot. It's free and it'll introduce you to the basic premise of Battle Royale at least.
I think you can come across a little belligerent in your posts but I do agree with you there. It is a good way to get a feel for PUBG.

Here's the latest edition to FNBR in terms of gadgets. It feels like they're settling into a torrid pace of one interesting addition per week. The sky is the limit for this game.

Just got nominated for one of these for best multiplayer...

Nah. I've got more than enough to play without adding a game I don't find appealing. I'll get into PUBG when I'm ready.

That's too bad Frozpot. I think you'd really like it.

In other news, the silent SMG just dropped and smoke grenades are hitting next week. The more I play this game, the more I think it will become the preeminent battle royale game out there. It's free, the games are faster, much less jank, and it runs alot smoother than PUBG. Most importantly though, Epic can iterate upon this game at insane speeds because it runs on their own engine (UE4). PUBG Corp seems to take forever with their updates.

Has anyone else here given it a go?

Short little anecdote for you...

My brother stops by once every two or three weeks. Sometimes I'm playing videogames while he's doing something else, like making food or doing something for work. Anyway, he's never shown any interest in anything gaming related, ever. He literally views videogames the same way I see two women talking about necklaces on the Home Shopping Network. It's not that he doesn't like it. It's that they're completely irrelevant to him in every way. The TV might as well be off when he sees what I'm playing. Tonight, he sees Fortnite for the first time.

I'm playing with three friends and I find he's asking me questions every few minutes behind his laptop.

"Is that your friend?"
"Why are you hiding in a bush?"
"Is that gun good?"
"Oh, you should have run up the hill instead of shoot..."

He watches for 5 minutes, peppers me with a few questions/comments, then goes back to work for five minutes. He does this for about 30 minutes until I get the idea to unplug my mic, so he can hear my squad mates talking.

As soon as I do it, he shuts his laptop, gets a big smile on his face, and pulls a chair right up next to the TV. So for the next 17 or so minutes, he's listening like a little kid to the tactical chatter overs comms. He's disagreeing with one of my mates, telling me what we should do instead, yelling at me that I need to plug my mic back in and tell them what I'm seeing, demanding to know what the Fortnite slang means that he's hearing... I do not know how to describe what I saw tonight. For 17 short minutes he went from being a 35 year old workaholic to a little kid.

We get eliminated by a barage of rockets and gunfire with only 3 squads left and my brother immediately says "You're playing again right?! You guys shouldn't have done that. It made no sense to leave your position. One of you should have just..."

Magic.

My issue is, i just don't know where to start with these games. Fortnite, PUBG, Overwatch, etc. There's too many games, so i just end up not playing any of them in fear that i will get hooked and neglect my single player games, lol. I'm a big multiplayer gamer too, well i should say Gears and Call of Duty fan i guess.

PUBG/Fortnite are too important to miss. The industry sees a paradigm shifting game release every four or five years? Battle Royale is that paradigm shift right now. I'm baffled that there are so many people here who have such little interest in these games.

Download Fortnite (It's free!), grab a buddy and get a top 5 finish. If you can do that and walk away, you'll at least understand what all the fuss is about.

BTW, big patch is hitting Fortnite in about four hours from now.

According to sauces (SuperData) Fortnite had a higher MAU (monthly active users) number than PUBG last month.

On the other hand PUBG sold 5 million copies in October, which was its highest selling month yet.

Wow.

So being 30fps on console isn't ruining anyone's experience!? What will the master race think!?

Fortnite is free and on 3 times as many platforms.

Yeah, Epic is really taking advantage of those two things right now. I'm going to bet we see some more crazy numbers at The Game Awards on friday.

So Epic just released their big patch for this week a couple hours ago and auto aim on console is completely gone.

People are going nuts (not in a good way)

I wonder if they can fix this before The Game Awards tonight. They sure as hell don't want an influx of new players to try this game with no auto aim.

Epic, you have about 10 hours to get this settled...

So for all 1 of you (shame!) with a passing interest in this game...

The 50 on 50 mode we all saw at The Game Awards yesterday plays nothing like the trailer suggested. It's just regular Battle Royale with 2 teams so you don't really get that base vs base engagement they tried to show.

I think the mode sucks as it snowballs really easily. You frequently get a 18 v 4 at the end game. However, people on the Fortnite forums seem to love it, which is puzzling. It's just so much less intense than solos, duos, or squads.

With that being said, I think the mode hints at a new tracking item that will be added shortly, so that's nice.

I downloaded the free version last night after the award show, haven’t tried it yet.

I'm going to do the same tonight. I watched some videos last night and to be honest I'm not really sure what to make of it. Some of the gunfights I've seen looked like fun but that was after running around alone looking for a target. It could be the player I was watching so I'll have to try it for myself.

Battle Royale is based on intensity of encounters, not really quantity of encounters.

I've won about 30 solo matches and wins take about 20 minutes to complete. In those wins, I average about 6.5 kills, so we're looking at a kill once every three or so minutes. Granted, I play a little more conservatively (OK, I'm a camper!) than most but many of my friends average 10+ kills per 20 minute victory.

The game really appeals to players who like making choices in their competitive shooters. Do I engage those people over there, or should I go the other way and avoid them? Should we set up an ambush here because we expect people to be following us? Ok, we're trading shots with that base over there. I'll keep trading, you drop down and try to get behind them etc...

Geography and tactics play a much bigger role here than something like Call of Duty. If that sounds cool to you, you'll be hooked. If you like non stop action in your shooters, you'll probably be disappointed.

Man, I REALLY suck at this game.

Three things 95% of Fortnite players don't do, and only the good ones do...do.

1. When you're in an open space and feel like you could get shot at any moment, start bunny hopping. You're 25% harder to hit and bunny hopping is relatively free to do.

2. When you get shot from someone out of your field of view, train yourself to whip the camera around and just start building walls while backing up. Once they stop shooting at you, build a ramp up behind one of your walls so you can peak them.

3. If you build a fort, everyone suspects it's occupied therefore you recieve unwanted attention. If you hide in a bush, you become the night. (There's a time and place for both)

Bonus: If you have a shot on an unsuspecting enemy remember to stop moving, crouch, and tap fire (do not hold trigger). You're a ton more accurate that way.

Just won my first match!

I'm still pretty crap at building on the fly though. Keyboard is a bit unwieldy, but gamepad isn't accurate enough on PC.

I want the cool skeleton costume, but I'm not paying for s***!

The graphics are stunning though, and runs buttery smooth! I think I'm going to buy the pve component too. I wish it was cross buy.

Congratulations!

So that feeling you got in the final 3 to 4 players remaining...that never really goes away. I've won 100+ games at this point and my heart races nearly the same amount today as it did on my first win.

How many kills did you get on your win btw?

Also, a holiday/winter themed update is supposed to hit tomorrow.

Only 4, but that seems to be the most Ive ever gotten. Lol.

I tend to try and hide and watch others try to kill each other, then after their finished sneak in.

It's definitely getting addictive though. I'm playing the 50v50 now, it's fun having team mates.

Comical how many rushed to buy PUBG on X1 when they could have just kept playing this which is a significantly better experience right now on there.
