Games that didn't live up to the hype...

I didn't see much hype as some other Halo games.
I had low expectations(because of H4) and it ended up much better than I thought it would.

You had low expectations...because you were always on the Xbox hate bandwagon, so you went into it with low expecations, but the game was indeed hyped, quite a bit.

It definitely didn't live up to the hype.
Halo 5 is spectacular. What were people expecting it to be?

Long running franchises can be tricky I imagine. You've gotta make changes to the original formula without changing it so much you alienate the loyal fanbase, but its gotta be different enough to pick up new gamers who have never played it too. Thats f***ing hard to do. Hell, I bet thats harder than creating a new IP and those are much riskier. I appreciated the hard work 343i put into Halo 5. And even though a lot of people say it didnt live up to the hype, they'll be there for Halo 6 when it releases, so it had to do something right, right?

Halo 4 was more hyped and was the worse game so that seems like a more appropriate answer.

Then again 5 launched with disappointing amount of content and the story was butt. First Halo I had no interest in replaying.

Halo 4 was superb, IMO. Played it like, five times which is rare. Halo Guardians was a nice change up and still consistent with what you'd expect. The multiplayer is fantastic and the single player had enough meat on the bones to make you hungry for Halo 6. I'll be there day #1 on release.

The reason I said Halo 5 was almost 100% because of the story. I was so excited for the single player and it was just bad in my opinion.

But I will be back playing it tomorrow when the firefight update hits.

Wow at all the Halo responses. Xbox fans are just spoiled. Imagine being stuck with the Killzone series instead? Or f***ing Resistance? Come on man.

In all honesty I haven't gotten very far into Halo 5. Something just feels like it's missing though.

Don't confuse "not living up to the hype" with "not good".

I LOVE the call of duty games, but they never live up to the hype.

Stop being so sensitive.

7+ months and I'm still going playing Halo 5 pretty much whenever I get the chance. So safe to say, I don't agree with the popular opinion that it was overhyped. Would it have been great if all of this content was released from the get go? Sure. Would I have wanted to wait 7 months for all of it...or even 2-3 for some of it? No. The story wasn't the greatest...but the multiplayer is better than every previous version due to the additions of clambering, boosting and ground pound. I've played every single Halo game and this one is by far my favorite.

Exactly. Games get hyped to the point where they have zero chance of living up to it.

You see it with a lot of games today. The hype train just gets so out of control that people get unrealistic expectations, especially with sequels.

Sequels in anything rarely live up to the previous versions. Movies, games, etc.

Put a number on a game like 2 or 3 and people think that is the amount of times it will exceed the original.
