Well, let me start by saying that I would love to have the opportunity to help this community that Plainview developed and everyone has worked together to create.
Having been a member of TeamXbox since 2001, and being part of the community for the past 13 years, it seems so many of us have grown as a family here. There has been ups and downs, but in the end, we all are still here....spending literally thousands of hours together in the short life that we have. I don't think many people look at the big picture and see just how much interaction we have here and how it affects our life. It's a great hobby, and thriving community, a competition and a growth. I would love to see that continue.
My experience includes being a Microsoft MVP for 8 years, for the Microsoft Office (Publisher) division. I have moderated at the same community site that
illiniguy has, PSU,com (Playstation University). I have also moderated at the wildly popular co-optimus.com (the first website for gamers that was dedicated to co-op games/gaming only). Also, since the 90's I have been an active staff member at ActiveWin.com, which includes ActiveXbox.com. I have done hardware and software reviews for everything from Microsoft Office, Microsoft Money, to keyboards, as well as all the Xbox hardware and games. We are listed as a recommended community site at Xbox.com and the Microsoft developer websites.
I have a bias, which is for the Xbox gaming console. However, I also own Playstation consoles and enjoy them as well. My bias is never hidden, but it also doesn't affect my perception of the people that I interact with every day here in our community. Having been a Military Police officer in the Army for 8 years, a 14 year old son, 20 years of marriage, a college degree, and 20 years in my same profession (14 years currently at the same job), I know what responsible means. The moderation here needs to be held in a responsible manner, should not be abused, and should never be held over someone's head or used as a bragging right. It should be seen as a helping hand in the community. Just making sure there is no rif raf, making sure what spam comes in, goes out, retains the same relationships they have always had...and more importantly, enjoy themselves.
Andy wasn't able to balance moderation and enjoyment of the community, so I can't say for sure that it won't affect my enjoyment. I just know that my previous experiences as moderating didn't affect my enjoyment, and it gave me a sense of accomplishment.
Sorry for the babble. Just putting my 2 cents in.
