Microsoft At E3 2018

Didn't see this posted but sorry if it was! I think that list overall is solid but lacking in any new 1st party IP (Electric Madness is not what we're looking for!). Don't know what to make of Halo: Genesis...have to see. I don't think they'd release Halo and JD in the same holiday window either. Like the addition of some 3rd party games day and date on GamePass (Shadow of the Tomb Raider; Boderlands 3). Probably a load of BS but we'll see.

If that was the actual conference I’d be happy enough.

Sooooo many....

Unless I'm missing something, there's just one big new exclusive (Joanna Dark) there, apart from Halo and Forza. Unless the Halo reboot is so rebooty that it makes it feel like a new game, we're really looking at just one big new exclusive. There's Splinter Cell, but that's time-limited. Otherwise, it's mostly 3rd party deals and games we already know about. In terms of what I'm looking for -- and what I think MS needs to turn things around -- that lineup feels a little thin. Of course, it's also probably fake.

Doesn't it kind of depend on how those big games actually present?

Halo, Perfect Dark, Splinter Cell, and to a lesser extent, Forza Horizon all have the ability to wow or disappoint depending on how those titles actually look.

I think that lineup is fake but I also wouldn’t be shocked if they only have 1 new IP. None of their newest projects have been in the hopper long.

I do think getting any major 3rd party games into Game Pass wouldn’t be nothing. If Game Pass succeeds, they’re going to need a good variety of steady content and it’ll likely increase their output of single player games long term.

Also think fixing Halo is being underrated. Nintendo got back on their feet in large part to their new ecosystem and hardware...but also due to their 2 big guns of Mario and Zelda. If Halo goes from good to special, it means more to their long term success than 3 new IPs even if new IPs are what the enthusiast want.

They better hope this is fake.

Only reason to watch this is for the non exclusive 3rd party titles. The majority of which will be shown by the devs ayway.

isnt ms briefing before most others? i may be wrong but i think ubisofts is on monday, if they and others have showings that same day then the ms presser could have a build up trailer towards, whatever marketing exlusive they may have, as a build up trailer on the following day or vice versa with like ea

It is.

Question, Is 343 doing a Halo reboot, or was that speculation?

Speculation but not really based on anything. They may be doing something more ambitious if they are really taking an extra year for it though.

I think a reboot is wishful thinking on the part of most of the classic Halo fans but seems unrealistic considering Halo 5 left with a crappy cliffhanger.

If I was in charge (and there’s clearly 1000s of reasons I never would be), I’d have MC wake up from his Cryosleep that he went into at the end of 3 and learn that Halo 4 and 5 were part of some stupid ass dream implanted by...[insert whoever you want]...to find...[insert anything you want].

The entire extended universe is fake news. Master Chief can still aim while running and doesn’t need ADS. He also can’t fly down from large mountains as he remembers that even a genetically enhanced human can’t fly like Superman and land safely from 1000s of feet high. These were clearly glitches during the dream sequence.

Cortana is fine and doesn’t look like a sex robot.

As we learned in Halo CE, MC is still the last Spartan because you can’t create a Spartan out of a standard ODST soldier overnight like they did for Buck...in his dream.

As Bungie concluded, MC is no longer fighting Covenant. There have been issues integrating them into the rest of humanity which creates interesting backstories however the treaty still exists...which forces MC to focus on some different threat that uses different weapons, has different AI and is far more interesting to fight strategically than the boring bullet sponge Promtheans that MC dreamed about.

MC has to tackle a combo of wide linear and mini Metroidvaniaish ODST levels which can be taken in different branching orders.

Due to the lack of carrying a squad the entire game, Halo returns to classic pacing which is a combo of quiet moments in mysterious environments and large scale battles.

Use cloud to record player styles and create Forza style dynamic AI for opposition NPCs in the game...because classic Halo always made an attempt to do at least 1 innovative thing in each game.

My dream rant is finished.

Well, I think it's a good "foundation" but they really need to announce a new AAA IP. In fact, the goal should be to announce at least 1 new AAA IP every E3 and also revive a fan favorite (i.e. new MechAssault/Shadowrun/Crimson Skies, etc.). That goes along with all of the other stuff such as the list above. I do really like a PD reboot, and a new Halo game but they definitely need something "new" and unexpected.

I also really think the Forza series is at saturation and MS need to change their strategy with that IP (i.e. a game every year, hell even every other year for the IP of choice is overkill). I played the fook out of FH2 and was burned out by the time FH3 came out. I bought it but only played it for 15-20 hours (as opposed to 100+ hours for FH2; I don't play FM proper). Hell, it would be awesome if they bought Playground and had them alternate between Fable and FH (or even another IP). Turn 10 can "assist" them and outright abandon the FM IP :).

They better hope this is fake.

It's not that bad. I mean new Halo and Perfect Dark reboot are pretty nice if you ask me. Also greatly looking forward to Ori, Ashen, The Last Night and Below. The 3rd party stuff is par for the course but would love to see both Starfield and Cyberpunk 2077 on the MS stage (tho why they would bother with "marketing" on a CDPR game after "The Witcher 3" fiasco, I'm dubious). I would agree that they need something new and unexpected though....a M-M-Mega-TON if you will. I'd love to see a new AAA IP but expecting more than one right now is a bit unrealistic IMO.

They originally said this would be a trilogy so I say go back to that. Call it the end of the story and advertise around that and then fully reboot it next gen.

Yeah I don’t expect a reboot now. Just dreaming out loud. Back to my day job.

Yeah, I think it's a solid foundation but as I said, definitely needs something a bit bigger to really move the needle and I think MS really need to start moving the needle!

if that list holds up as we get closer to E3, then this will be the 1st MS E3 I'll pass on.

Well, let's not forget about Screamride 2. Megaton, baby.

:laugh:This is why I think the list is fake....I mean 1) I don't think the game sold that well 2) It wasn't a critical success....so why in god's name would you do a sequel? I like Frontier a lot (my son LOVES Planet Coaster on PC) but this seems like a major waste of resources here. I've even played it a bit through the demo and have it on Gamepass now and it's about 2-4 hours of "fun" and then done. Please god at least let that be "fake"!!

People seem to forget. We are not the only gamers out there. Screamride actually did better in reviews than Sea of Thieves did. MS needs to cater to all audiences, not just us. So if we need Super Lucky Tales, Screamride, etc. they should bring it.

That said, if that is indeed the list, I too would be disappointed.

The list is composed by speculation by someone reading the resetera MS 1p thread. Some random mentioned they heard we'll see a sequel to an Xbox One launch game by frontier (Zoo Tycoon) and someone else mentioned Screamride and it became Screamride 2.

The list isn't fake because it has some correct things on (Halo and Forza obviously) but a lot of it, most of it is a guess.

As to why MS would greenlight a sequel to a c list game no-one really cares about apparently its 'necessary' to have half a dozen low budget games with 6/10 metas for variety's sake

It's terrible. Oh another Halo & Horizon, shocking. A bunch of indie games and 3rd party. Yes, terrible.

Perfect Dark is the only bit of potential because it could be anything, but it is MS, so can only muster a slight sliver of hope.

As for Forza M'...their issue is they just don't do anything. It isn't satturated, it is stale and being left behind by the competition. I really hope Playground games stop doing Horizon and do their owh racing IP.

I couldn't disagree more strongly about Horizon. Amazing series and I don't even know if they have competition.

The main Forza series I can agree with.

I like Horizon too, but we are at 4 now. All that really seems to change is location and scale anyway. I'd rather see them do sometging new in 2020 rather than Horizon 5.
