343 did an excellent job with Halo 4 and I'm positive that they will learn from their mistakes.
As many others already said: I too think that the campaign was the best since Halo CE. And I agree
The Wolf King Bungie arn't the best story tellers around while I can definitely see 343 doing a much better job in the future.
Plus the engine they created for Halo 4 still amazes me even today, can't wait to see what they achieve on XO.
I don't think that Halo 4's mulitplayer was horrible either. It was just a little different - and while one can argue whether some changes were for the better I think the REAL problem is another one: Oversaturation.
We are playing Halo games for how long now?
Let me tell you this: I've organized Halo Lan parties since the CE days and I could see the decline in enthusiasm beginning with Halo 3. It's not that the games are in any form bad it isn't a Bungie/343 thing either it's just that Halo MP has long reached it's peak.
Don't fix something if it ain't broke. That's Bungie's own words back then.
However the series HAD to evolve - you can only do so much with a given formula until it gets stale. The H2/3 formula just worked perfectly (mostly) and there was no need to reinvent the wheel.
Now some people do not get the problem at hand. You can't say "Let's just do the same thing for the xxxth time and all is good.". It's not desirable either. People just want to have the old
feeling they don't want the same game they played 10 years ago (even if they think so). You want to play classic Halo? Then go play Halo CE/2/3.
I really love Halo from the the bottom of my heart, I had so much joy with this series.
But even as a long term fan I know that 343 has to find their own way.
You can play it save and create another great but not groundbreaking game.
Or you can step up to the plate and try to craft a modern Halo CE.
