Well, we know there are some ex-GAF mods there. Duckroll seems to be saying the majority are elsewhere.
Any existing mods were complicit in its recent state of decrepancy. Any site founded by them is a countdown to a repeat of the trashhole gaf became.

I'm betting the new place will be more intelligently moderated than the old one. I'm looking forward to it, actually.
I enjoyed reading at GAF. Great place for game conversation, info, and laughs. Most of the interactions I had there were fine.
I'm seeing a lot of schadenfreude from Xbox gamers here, bitter from years of having to listen to what GAF said about their precious. GAF sure did make some enemies, lol.

No doubt some of the mods knew exactly the ass Malka was over the years, yet stuck around as if nothing happened.
Goes to show the type of ethics these mods have. It took a widespread sexual assault post (that got a crapload of traction on a Saturday) for them to bail ship.
It's not like Malka has these guys by the balls. It's a game forum. They probably didn't even get paid (and if they did probably got hardly any money). So it's not like these mods have a lot to lose going against Malka.
They moderated the board their own way and it was trash.
Does anyone really think Malka is so powerful watching over all their shoulders ensuring each of the 10-15 mods controlled the board "the way he wanted".
Doubt it.
Actually you see lots of schadenfreude from the whole web.
There's basically no articles, podcasts, gaming industry people or support from anyone saying GAF is great, and this whole weekend debacle is unjust. And that a fantastic board got taken down by a shady owner. It's actually a parlay between Bad Board + Bad Owner = Bad Site
What people say is actually all similar....
- Huge forum
- Lots of great news and latest info as the masses post up to date news
- But the board really morphed over the years to be SJW, ban happy, dev hating threads..... and linked to that mods were no better. They have power to control the board into a nice friendly board and they didn't do that

Its a beacon for witchhunts run by paedos, sex assailants and bullies with zero accountability. Some would call it a justice with irony flavoured sprinkles. And no calories.
As a white Englishman in the UK, I can't say the KKK troubles me personally. Doesn't mean I won't celebrate the day it crumbles. What a horrid racist institution.
Tbh I don't really think the site was that bad. The biggest issue was to allow their users to manipulate the media with no vetting. And when they were caught out, there were no apologies. No disavows. Just deletions. Sweep it under the rug. It never happened.
Can't have Tyler's ad revenue drop.
The punchline is that GAF was taken down by a 'false claim' (according to Malka)
Id say a site built by GAF mods is similar to a German government founded by the 'lesser known' members of the Third Reich.

GAF had a lot of problems with the biggest being that there was no room for debate especially outside of gaming but its no surprise that many of those who are celebrating its fall are biased towards Xbox or are part of the alt right/gamergate.
Moral of the story.
Admire but don't smash unless invited.
Should be the new GAF website motto.
Xbox fans praising the fall and PS fans mourning the fall. Maybe the new site will be GameGAF instead of SonyGAF.
And not one gaming industry person (editor, developer, YT personality) has come out saying they are sad and disappointed GAF is gone.
Out of 1,000s of people, not even let's say... 5 people.... have come out to show support.
Goes to show what the general consensus is of the site.
Yeah, there's a real backlog of resentment there, which we're hearing about. Man. I wouldn't expect defenders right now -- the site has been tainted by the scandal. You generally want to keep your distance at a time like this.
I thought Pachter said something nice about GAF, but I don't recall.

It's a forum. Where people talk about things. I'm sure plenty of people woke up the other morning, disappointed to see they could no longer post on a site they posted on for years. Got to love how everyone is acting like GAF is a global company or something and are shocked to see what's happening.
People are surprised that with a community that large there was some toxicity? Mods may not have always had the best intentions of the site in mind and it was rough this gen if you were an Xbox fanboy but big deal. Last gen there were just as many people calling for Sony's demise. It's funny how people forget or aren't educated on the topic.
I don't even post there and i have a grasp on their history. It was never SonyGAF. It was FlavorOfTheMonthGAF. When Xbox was popular, people talked about it. When PlayStation was popular, people talked about it. As others have said, i think it was a more pro Nintendo board than anything else.
As far as politics go, i can't help you there. It's a worthless topic that brings out the worst in people, no matter what the venue is. When people ask me if i'm a democrat or a republican i just say i'm a demonotanidiotcan. Take the middle ground, always. Once you start shouting from one side of the isle you're no better than the guy shouting from the other side.
Agree with all of that. GAF was very positive about the Xbox 360 last gen and very tough on the PS3 and its mistakes. I agree that GAF goes with what is popular. Then just amplify whatever is in the wind. They are currently biased toward Sony, but that's just been since the X1 reveal. Give it a few years and it'll shift again.
Yeah, i'm the same way. I like what i like, and if more people like what i like then that's great. I truly enjoy gaming on my Xbox consoles but i've always been more of a Nintendo/PlayStation fan. Last gen though, 360 was definitely a better all around console in my book and having briefly lurked at GAF that's the consensus i got at the time. People acknowledged that 360 was better.
This gen it's the opposite, while i'm biased towards PlayStation i just think PS4 is the better console. It feels like the true successor to the 360 in my opinion. Better UI, controller is on par, and the games have been great with more coming to get excited about. Xbox has left a lot to be desired on the games front, but have made it for it in other areas with things like true backwards compatibility.
I remember GAF giving Sony all kinds of crap for not wanting to do cross play not that long ago. It's not all Sony propaganda. To think so is delusional at best and highlights one's agenda. Like get over it, you don't have the world's most popular console. Who cares.

Yup. I remember reading that thread after doing a search for something and being shocked at the responses. Had no idea that a site that's supposedly an advertisement for Sony could be so certain that Sony was destined to stay in third place and probably close up shop altogether. I was like who died and made Microsoft king. Didn't the PS2 just clean house the gen before? I kept saying wait until it's Sony's turn again, y'all ain't gonna like it.
People were already writing off Sony after 1 mediocre generation, at GAF no less. Thought that was exclusive to places like TXB and other pro Xbox forums. Then you had Xbox fans saying PS3 was a massive failure because it didn't sell like the PS2 did and there would be no PS4 but yet here we are.. Xbox One is a success because it was selling on par with 360 for awhile, lol. We don't need to get into all that though.

They look worse than him honestly. I mean, the guy seems like a jerk but that doesn't mean he's guilty and him admitting to grabbing a woman's ass years ago when people were drunk doesn't prove anything. I have a friend who did that at a party. He's not a bad guy, works hard and never has been in trouble in his life. People do stupid things from time to time. Doesn't make it right, but everyone's been there in one way or another.
