NeoGaf on Life Support, and all Mods quit!

It really slowed down but people are still lurking..a lot...look at posts made after they reopened, you have like 50 replies only but some have 5,000 views anyway.

Evilore posted a new message, saying moderation has been "restructured from the ground up" and will now be "transparent" and without agenda or ego. I have my doubts. Last week, the moderators were all anonymous. Now everything is supposedly "transparent"? Hmm. It's good that he's backing away from the unaccountable, anonymous moderation, but I don't really buy the "everything is transparent" and "no egos" now. I don't even know who the mods are, and how many are just the old ones, returned.

He also plans to restore the political and social OT forum, but insists that they won't be tolerating the one-sided discussions. He suggests "everyone get along."

So, I'm sure everything will work out just fine.
LOL. He makes it sound like "the old way" was chock full of bias. No kidding. And now he does something about it?

What does "transparent" even mean on a message board? Mods have to disclose biases? They have to disclose real name?

It's only been a week and a half since the incident happened, and the guy has already done this:

- Shut down the site for 2 days
- Brought it back up, but disabled OT
- Locked endless threads.... some of them were good calls (gross posts), some were just talking about it
- Made remaining mods go under the radar as Modbot
- Re-activated OT a day or two later
- Mods are back in red font
- Evilore releases a new message now about a better forum 10 days later?

This guy is scrambling to keep whatever is left.

Don't be surprised if he's doing this in an attempt to sell the site for pennies on the dollar.

You guys should go try to take over GAF. With most of the regular/best posters gone, the place has a lot more Xbox threads. I count 6 Xbox threads on the first page, twice as many as PS threads. Now is the time for a coup.
LOL.

Who knew GAF would one day have lots of pro-Xbox threads! Funny how it transformed into his the second most posters transitioned to Resetera.

I’m so glad GAF is dead but I only lurked occasionally. That place really was toxic and insufferable. I’ve been off these boards for a while but I’m glad to be back.

I might check out resetera as a supplement to here.

Actually, I looked more deeply, and the threads still sound very anti-Xbox. Look at the one on X1 preorders being high, for instance. I'm not sure it's any Xbox-friendlier over there than it was before. It might even be worse (since a lot of the more serious/sensible people have left).

If anyone is wondering, Resetera seems like a good place to talk Xbox -- much better than GAF, at any rate. There are a number of positive Xbox threads, and the discussions seem much more balanced than what you would find at GAF.

The new place has a remarkably congenial atmosphere. I'm surprised and frankly impressed. All due credit to the admins, mods, and members. There is probably some honeymoon effect going on, but I hope it lasts.

Andy, this place is probably the best place on the internet to to talk xbox.

I really like this...

I want to be apart of ResetERA... Does it require a paid e-mail account like Gaf does?

I didn't mean as an alternative to Union. I'm sure that if Xbox is your favored console, this is a great place to be (although it is a bit of an echo chamber at times). I meant that, if you're interested in also reading a larger and more diverse forum about Xbox-related topics, the transition has been good for Xbox. A lot of toxicity seems to have been left behind at GAF. At least so far.

Although maybe "talk Xbox" was the wrong way to put it. "Read Xbox," maybe. Having discussions on large forums is always a little problematic. I spend most of my time just reading.

Yup.

Just heard that the new place is pronounced like Etc... not Reset Era...

Carry on ;P

I can't seem to make up my mind how it's supposed to sound. I like how "resetera" (etcetera) sounds. It rolls off the tongue. But it doesn't come naturally; I have to over-ride my natural instinct to say "reset era."

Every time I post at Resetera I feel like I am cheating on Union.

Damn, GAF got gutted. You run out of "today's" posts in 2 pages. It used to be 10+.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Union is more active than GAF, at this point.

Evilswine really killed the golden goose. That place is a graveyard compared to what it used to be.
Yup.

If you exclude longstanding threads that have been around for ages still getting bumped, and solely look at new threads, most of them can barely hit a few hundred posts.

Even bickerfest DF threads which would have received 1,000s of posts may top out at 300 and then it dies. Go to page 3 and it's post from yesterday.

Got to page 3 in Resetera, and it's people posting an hour ago.

Who knew so many people would jump ship. No way I thought it would change so dramatically.

Yeah, and the posters that are left are kind of sh*t. Lots of trolls and flames. Some good discussion to be found occasionally, but you have to search for it. Not worth the trouble, with resetera around.

There were three problems with GAF.

The mods.
The owner.
The community.

Resetera is just a GAF that pretends it was outraged at how GAF became a s***hole and is now thinks its better then old GAF.

Yeah, Resetera started out to be a nice possibility of change and improvement. After time, it has become GAF, 100%....just with a new coat of paint.

I lurk there from time to time (granted I don't spend much time there so I might not be getting a feel) but it seems ok. I stick to the game threads and avoid the "industry" stuff.

Honestly I think the big problem is just too many people. They just hit a critical mass where there's just too many voices. The best communities I'm part of are around the size here or maybe a tad bigger. Much more than that just seems too much.

Plus, I think they are just a symptom of the general negativity that dominates our hobby.

I never did get into NeoGAF, but I remember watching the the GameTraielrs (RIP) documentary about it and thinking "Eh?"

Been reading Resetera forums and finding good discussions. Then again I did the same on Neogaf. Maybe I just filter out the s*** better.☺

Gaf still has some over the top Sony nutters.

One guy said that Microsoft hurts the industry more than helps it. I mean, I can understand having a preference or not liking Microsoft's library. But hurting the industry?
