You want to talk about piling on the disasters for this game, if you recall there was a special collectors edition for the PC version that was to come with a cool tin rocket ship, limited to 10,000. Not only did this not sell out, but would you believe they are having production problems and those who ponied up $150 for this limited set haven't received anything yet but the code to play the game. We are almost 2 months past launch and they are "hoping" to have them shipped out sometime Q4.

I'd love to have one of those if they show up on e-bay in the future at a reasonable price. I'll be interested to see if it really looks like that, notice the *art not final clause where they have an "out" to make it crappier.

Factions was probably the biggest lie in my opinion, actually having something to be apart of would have been huge.

Yep, those actually impact gameplay (or should if they meant anything).

People now want multiplayer not because it makes any sense, but because they say a bunch of youtube videos on it. I've run across one planet found by someone else. Maybe a bug means there are a few more. Still people who want MP don't understand the game at all. Two friends could start on complete opposite sides and be massively far apart.

To me the disaster isn't lies, but the whole pr strategy. I don't know if it's the PR team or the gaming media,( combo of both) but this game was totally misrepresented. Like in the preview builds didn't they see the tedious resource collecting and tedious interface. The dull AI and pointlessness. The clunky controls. This is a cool concept, but probable a more core/niche game that people were lead to believe was something else. Someone saw the hype train leaving the station and totally decided to take gamers for a ride.

The thing that sucks, isn't the backlash. It's that this game was handled so poorly that it sends a signal to the industry not try something new or different.

The main problem is it was touted as a big PS4 exclusive and Sony has the rap of hyping games. If this was an Xbox One or Wii U game people would have already forgot about it. But Sony has done just about everything perfectly this gen besides delaying some games so people need something to go after.

Not saying it wasn't a PR disaster though. Sean Murray needs to come out and say something. Seems like it's a bit late for that though. All he had to do was tell us that he went overboard and some of the features had to be cut to get the game out. Or they could have just delayed it again and taken more backlash. You can't really win in these situations.

Here's the real issue. They were forced to shut down the NMS reddit for a bit (which is pretty much the biggest place I know where the community lives). This is because of all the rage, anger and drama.

However it isn't directed at the devs or anyone else associated with the game. Reddit is nothing but fans and modders at this point. They are the ones taking 100% of the rage.

Reddit is one of the best spots that analyzed the game and made intelligent posts on what was promised and what was missing.

What is the point of trashing your own community?

Wow, I just saw that those who ordered the Limited Edition PC version ($150) STILL haven't received their die-cast space ship yet that was supposed to come with the game. This is 5 months after release! I have never heard of something like this happening before ever.

Wow.... Nope, never heard of anything like that happening before.

It's been 5 months already!? Wow!

Have they been updating the game much? I deleted it a few days after buying it.

I've never heard of a gamer who buys indie games for $150 a pop either. Maybe this is why we have a trump president.

An actual update!

http://www.no-mans-sky.com/news/

Hello,

This week Hello Games will be releasing an update to No Man’s Sky. We’re calling it The Foundation Update, because we have added the foundations of base building, and also because this is putting in place a foundation for things to come.

Detailed patch notes will follow, and release will be soon.

Coming from five years of intense development, immediately after No Man’s Sky released the team spent six weeks updating the game with 7 patches across both platforms (the last of these was 1.09 on Sept 24th which you can read about here http://www.no-mans-sky.com/log/). These fixed many of the most common or critical bugs and issues post-release.

In the nine weeks since then our small team has been hard at work on development, testing and certification for the Foundation Update. It won’t be our biggest update, but it is the start of something.

The discussion around No Man’s Sky since release has been intense and dramatic. We have been quiet, but we are listening and focusing on improving the game that our team loves and feels so passionately about.

Positive or negative feedback, you have been heard and that will truly help to make this a better game for everyone.

This update will be the first small step in a longer journey. We hope you can join us.

Thank you,

Hello Games

Like Martha Stewart showed us after her stint in jail, taking a theme and running with it is endearing.

Hello Games took a page out of her book, and barely laid the foundation for patch notes.

Team with the theme!

Ign has a video if the base building. Looks cool but in a game where the point is to keep moving and exploring i'm not sure what the point is.

I think it's time to fire this up again. I've been reading some very impressive things about the update. Even the Reddit sub has positive things to say which is a first since the game launched.

I haven't had much time with the update, but already the changes are noticeable. I'm glad they have been hard at work this whole time. All the negativity aside, there's still a solid game base in here to build on.

Especially when you go back to planets you already visited and everything is reset.

Note that really only refers to the ads, not all the things Sean said along the way. (the whole MP thing)

I think they are right about procedurally generated worlds. Most of them are boring. I've seen a few cool dinosaur type worlds, but most are just dull. You can't expect a non-scripted game to give a scripted experience.

Yes it specifically refers to the ad on Steam but the content that was complained about is the core issue. The reddit sub is hilarious. Now that the ASA has ruled in favor of the game they are all bashing the ASA.

Yeah the problem isn't really the formal advertising but all the stuff Sean said along the way.

Legally the whole thing is kind of a gray area. They misrepresented the game, no doubt, but not legally. It didn't say MP on the back of the box.

I really don't care at all. I just love watching video gamers going apes*** over nonsense.

Overall I thought it was a little underwhelming and a bit disappointing but I'm happy to sit back and let them update it and then i'll try it out again.
