If you have the money I'd say get a Pro first then a One X and hold off on the switch until their 1st party library builds up a bit more. Sony's exclusives alone are worth the purchase of the Pro over the One X and you can get it for $349 right now, it makes a big enough difference in games like Horizon ZD to make it worth buying that over the base console if you can, they have a ton of exclusives already announced that look to be very high quality and you get access to improved (over the base console) versions of all of the best 3rd party games as well.

The One X is a great 3rd party machine, I have it basically for that reason alone but if you like MS exclusives that gives you even more reason to get one. I never played Gears 4 on the vanilla console but the IQ is very nice on the One X, too bad the game is boring AF to play lol, at least for me it is :)

The Switch seems to have a couple of really well received 1st party games but how long before anything else worth having comes out on it? Nintendo releases are few and far between and they already released a Mario and Zelda game on the machine so I would think holding off and putting your time into the other big games that were released on the PS4/X1 consoles would be good enough for a while.

The Pro feels like a bit of a mis step. It's my main PS4 unit and I do really appreciate the improvements. But the base PS4 put out such good image quality that Pro doesn't feel like the upgrade that it should sometimes.

I'd go PS4 base, X1X then Switch if I didn't have any of the consoles.

Unless you're interested in VR, which I am (I'll get it soonish) then Pro would make a lot of sense. Also, if you have a really nice 4k TV, it would be worth it as well.

Xbox One S is about to sell out at Amazon, its doing exact same thing PS4 1Tb did. On 4th day on sale it sells out.

Amazon US November Monthly Charts update (Final November NPD Update)

#08 / PS4 Slim 1TB ($199) Down 2
#09 / XB1 S 500gb ($189) Up 1
#13 / NSW Neon ($299) Down 2
#14 / NSW Grey ($299) Same
#25 / XB1 X 1TB ($499) Same
#36 / XB1 X 1TB Scorpio ($499) Down 2
#41 / SNES Classic ($79) Same
#51 / XB1 S 500gb BF1 ($229) Down 1
#69 / PS4 Slim 1 TB SWB2 ($299) Same
#81 / PS4 PRO 1TB White ($349) Down 8
#90 / PS4 Slim 1TB COD WWII ($299) Down 6
#93 / New 2DS XL ($149) Down 3

Almost passed Slim 1TB in final update.

Yearly is now PS4 1TB Slim at #49, XBox One S 500gb at 53, Xbox One X Scorpio at 57.

Based on Amazon I think Xbox wins November NPD cause of Xbox one x Launch as usually BF whomever wins is usually only 100-200k difference and launch of a Xbox one x should overcome it.

Next Update Xbox One S will pass PS4 1TB Slim. But its for December NPD not November. Unless Sony Restocks it.

Nice to see new blood in the Sales thread, though. Usually it's just a few people in here. I imagine the release of XB1, combined with Black Friday and the holiday season, gets people around here more focused on sales data than they normally would be.

My bet is 1 Xbox, 2 Switch, 3 PS4, but as Mark Twain said, it's difficult to make predictions, especially about the future. It should be an interesting holiday. Hopefully we'll get good hardware data.

What if I don't care about first party games?

Any theories as to why hardware sales still make for popular threads? I get it for the first year or two but haven't the patterns kind of warn a groove at this point?

Agreed. Pro for VR. A huge shift in the gaming landscape is coming on this front. Black friday, skyrim, and doom are moving a ton of headsets. You'll see a even more exclusives announced only for VR. Publishers are taking note that VR users have a very high attach rate too.

I'm just glad console sales aren't dead like some anticipated.

Pro support has been spotty, when you see what GG was able to do with Horizon I think it shows the potential is there to do more with the system than most 3rd parties are doing. When you look at the coming exclusives like God of War, Spider-Man, Detroit, Days Gone, TLOU2, WiLD and more I think it justifies the purchase of the pro just for getting the best versions of those games that you can.

I can see why some would consider the Pro a bit of a misstep, the PS4 was already the most powerful console on the market and the jump is smaller between the base and upgraded console than it is with the competition. The advantage in doing that was keeping the price at an acceptable level so buy in wasn't extremely high. The One X being $499 while fair for what's in the box is still a high price for a gaming console, add to that the fact that you almost surely will need to invest in external storage and that raises the price at least another $120. So while 1TB isn't really enough on either the Pro or One X you probably could get by with that on the Pro, I had about 20 games stored on mine before I bought an external HDD because I was running out of space and didn't want to have to delete things but with the One X the first party stuff especially is going to make you run out of space really fast.

I do wonder if Sony will release another PS4 upgrade in the next two years rather than a true next gen machine simply because the tech/cost issues that will still be limitations when wanting something to truly be a generation ahead of where we are now.

What if I don't care about first party games?

Then you'd go with the best hardware you can afford, if that's the One X get that but if you can't afford $499 plus likely having to buy an external HDD go with the Pro, neither one is a bad choice. To be clear the One X is the best hardware but you also have to pay extra for that, right now you can get a Pro for $150 less.

PS4 Pro has been selling horribly. It took a fire sale for it to be in the monthly for November. Star Wars PS4 Pro Bundle never even made top 100 on Release day.

All 3 are going to have a huge November NPD IMO its just I don't think Sony can overcome a 400k head start for Xbox One x this month, should be around there I would say for Xbox One x. As BF is usually around 200k or less every BF, so even if Sony wins BF but its only 200k or less, X makes up for it and pulls Xbox ahead.

Also Prior to the 199$ PS4 1Tb sale on Amazon, MS had 4 Skus above a single PS4 Sku whole month because everyone was waiting for the $199 PS4. Plus MS had a buy a Xbox one s and get a free game with it. So Before BF MS regular Skus were winning even. So IMO Sony would have to have a 500k win on BF to pass Xbox, and I don't see that happening.

Oh, no, this is a very unique time. Makes sense that there is unusual interest this season. We've got the Switch, plus new hardware from MS.

Welcome to the sales thread, but let's keep the console wars talk/tone down. This isn't the GXD thread.

The Pro wasn't Sony's focus this week. The $199 console was.

"U.S. retailers raked in a record $7.9 billion in online sales on Black Friday and Thanksgiving, up 17.9 percent from a year ago."

TVs, laptops, toys and gaming consoles - particularly the PlayStation 4 - were among the most heavily discounted and the biggest sellers, according to retail analysts and consultants.

So maybe that'll help numbers.

p.s. Benji's report, from era. He's one of them insiders:

"It is true stock was almost all gone by the time actual Black Friday hit for PS4... It was much much easier to get a Switch or Xbox on BF proper than a PS4."

"I think they had a set number they were willing to sell at $199 and also believed that number would last them through BF. Thing is demand was even higher and by the time we hit BF itself the console was mostly sold out nation wide."

Yeah PS4 wins BF but MS win the month cause of Xbox one x launch.

all 3 will do good though and that's all that matters.

Sorry about the Pro but Sony pissed me off with that just as bad as xbox one original launch with the kinect. As not including a 4k player to play movies was a bad PR move. So I want it to fail. It's bad as Microtranactions in Star Wars Battlefront 2 IMO.

I have all 3 systems, its just I never buy a Pro because of Sony's greed on that decision.

I mean my xbox plays 4k movies anyways but I just feel Sony ripped people off with the PRO by not including it. I guess the Companies learn though as I'm sure they got feedback on it. So hopefully next gen they don't make the same mistakes.

Yeah, that's not a good attitude. It's sort of console warriorish. Wanting the other guy to fail.

I'm enjoying my Pro. It's a good console for anyone who enjoys Sony's exclusives, and it's essential if you're into VR.

I don't get the furor about 4K players. It's a big "meh" to me. And equating that with MS's decisions around X1/Kinect is silly. Not at all comparable.

Yeah I know but I do have a regular PS4 so its not like I want PS4 to fail haha.

I like Sony/Nintendo/MS I just didn't like PRO and Kinect being mandatory for original xbox one. Even though I still bought the original Xbox one day one edition. I just feel like it should of been a add on and Kinect being mandatory was the reason for the specs being that bad compared to PS4. Should of been what Xbox one x was 4 years ago even though it woudln't of been this powerful obviously but at least it would of been same as Regular PS4 or better.

I see switch winning.

I see switch winning.

Never know, switch just too hard as no clue if they had stock issues or not. Like they have been since launch in March. Honestly this November is hard to predict haha. It's just usually when a system launches they always win it's month. But who knows could break this trend this year.

Switch will be a huge success for Nintendo though as they don't have to make a new handheld hardware now as Switch does both, its a Wii if you want or a handheld haha. Pretty smart really as developers probably love that fact too as they can just focus on one hardware. 3DS still have a few games though over the years obviously. But this save Nintendo money and time not having to focus on 2 Hardware. Plus your appealing to both crowds, Handheld and TV users.

I hear you I guess. I just don't see anything different than what most of us already expected.

The XBox One and PS4 are neck and neck, which has been the case ever since Microsoft dropped the price to $399.

The XBox One X is selling out because new consoles always sell out and it's holiday shopping season.

The Switch is selling gangbusters because it's been selling gangbusters since launch and it's a Nintendo console during the holiday shopping season.

I just don't think anything is really interesting at this point. The next time I'll be keeping my eye on hardware sales is during Feb, Mar, and Apr for the XBox One X.

I suppose everything is interesting enough for big enough fans though.

Well, we haven't seen anything (any results) yet.

Yeah, it doesn't sound interesting, the way you put it.

I'm interested in seeing how they sell. All pretty well, I'm sure.

I hope Xbox One X has legs after the holidays but MS really needs to get more 1st party support though. It's fine even if its on PC, no big deal as fanboys make it out to be. I just like to see more 1st party games that are PC and Xbox. Hopefully Sea of Thieves is a success as that would help whenever that comes out next year. PUBG may help also as its a huge seller on PC, so may sell some X's. As X is cheaper than a expensive PC to play it.

I hope that Halo MCC patch in Spring really fixes the game as they said they are also changing the online system. Halo 5 online system is great, put that in it ha. Put Halo Reach in it while you at it. That could help sell a few X's maybe if word gets out that the game is now perfect and not broken like it was at release. That hurt MS a ton.
