Here is the UKIE/GfK Top Ten for the week ending March 24th.

Last Week This Week Title
New Entry 1 Sea of Thieves
New Entry 2 A Way Out
New Entry 3 Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
New Entry 4 Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered
3 5 FIFA 18
1 6 Burnout Paradise Remastered
4 7 Grand Theft Auto V
8 8 EA Sports UFC 3
5 9 Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
6 10 Super Mario Odyssey

Nice to see some new and remastered games on the list.

ZHugeEx notes:

"GfK is basically irrelevant without digital data. Even more so for games like Sea of Thieves that have both digital download and Gamepass versions of the game missing from the sales. Looking at the packaged sales numbers alone, you'd think the game didn't do very well because it sold similar numbers to Quantum Break packaged. But then you remember that digital skews higher on Xbox, Gamepass has a free trial, not to mention there is a PC version too and ultimately it's really hard to know just how much it sold based on the GfK number.

"Ni No Kuni 2 opened lower than the first game did on PS3. But with digital sales missing, it's hard to know what it actually sold in total and if it was indeed higher than the first game. The main takeaway though is that Ni No Kuni remains fairly niche in the UK.

"So to sum up. GfK is becoming more and more irrelevant and I can't wait for GSD to take over in 2019."

I really think this is year where PS4 and Switch sales surge as people become mutli console owners. I can see PS4 owners buying the switch for exclusives and Xbox One owners jumping to buy a PS4 for its exclusive.I really think God Of War and especially Spider-man will be really hard to resist along with the PS4's back catalog of exclusives and PS4 owners will want a taste of Zelda, Mario and Smash Bros.
You are assuming that hasn't happened a lot already. Honestly, I think some of MS's bump is multi-console purchases. PS4 is getting close to critical mass, I think.

That one surprises me. Kinda peaks my interest now.

Remember that it's $30, though, so a 2nd place rank here doesn't mean as much as if it were a full-priced title.

Not to diminish it. Hope it does well.

And that's why it'd be smart to bring out the PS5 in 2019 IMO, they have to be reaching a saturation point fairly soon. As far as MS's bump I think it's most likely people upgrading from the base console to the One X. I am sure there are some who bought into the X1 ecosystem for the first time with the One X (I'm one of them) but I don't think it's a very significant percentage.

Talking about the PS4s saturation point reminds me a lot of the talk surrounding Grand Theft Auto Vs saturation point.

The PS2 sold more than 155 million units. If anything, the market has grown considerably since then.

I still think we're going to see the PS5 in 2020 or 2019 though.

Some NPD stuff:

"Xbox One has been the best performing console of the year so far in the US accounting for both sales and growth." - Mat P., NPD.

PS4 slightly outsold Xbox for Jan & Feb, but growth for Xbox was much stronger. PS4 was somewhat down year-over-year and Switch was flat, but Xbox was substantially up, thanks to the introduction of new hardware and PUBG.

Here are the sold numbers for Jan & Feb.

January:
[PS4] 245k
[XB1] 239k

February:
[PS4] ~363K
[XB1] ~310K

Switch sold somewhere in that same neighborhood, but I can't put my finger on specific numbers.

so the NPD comment is it's the best performing console of the year in the US so far in sales....COMPARED to last year....since it has been outsold by PS4 in the US so far this year.

3 MS exclusives in the top 10 it nice to see. However, this list will see a new game at number one come 4/20/18 with God of War.

I guess that's another way to say it. The way Mat said it was, it's a combined metric, using both sales figures and growth figures. I'm not sure how they mix the two together, but that's the general idea.

I know the extra revenue from the X1X is important to MS. I am more interested in quantity of consoles sold. Why? I dont now.

A $500 console is sure to increase revenue but not necessarily will it translate into more physical consoles sold.

I know the extra revenue from the X1X is important to MS. I am more interested in quantity of consoles sold. Why? I don't know.

Sure you do. It's because the more consoles you sell, the more people you can have in your ecosystem, and that's the main thing these companies are interested in. Revenue doesn't mean much in that respect. In fact, increased revenue based on X1X console sales themselves is near meaningless, since X1X's aren't sold at a profit (afaik).

It's all about the number of consoles sold -- and beyond that, getting them hooked into the ecosystem, buying lots of content, etc.
