https://www.theguardian.com/games/2018/feb/13/rare-sea-of-thieves-multiplayer-pirates

The Xbox and PC online multiplayer pirate adventure will boast sea monsters and skeleton forts – and this is only the beginning.

"We’re talking about being a 10-year title, and it’s what we’ve done already that gives us the confidence to commit to that.”

"We're talking about..." You've been tricked again Hedon! I wonder why Rare would use those words leading up to the launch of their big game? Could it be they want to instill confidence in consumers to pluck down $60 bucks because "Wow! They're going to support Sea of Thieves for 10 years! I know I'll get my money's worth!" I wonder if they talked about other things like being a GotY contender or having interesting, non repetitive quests right out of the gate? I wonder what other cool things they "talk about"?

If this doesn't show a certain amount of financial potential to MS, they'll cut support without thinking twice. And for a high profile game released just 1 month ago, it's not looking too good .

Too gullible, lol.

Nintendo has sold an eye-opening 10.41m copies of Super Mario Odyssey since the game's launch last October. Odyssey is now Nintendo Switch's best-selling game - well over half the console's entire userbase now owns a copy.

As of 31st March this year, Nintendo has sold 17.79m Switch consoles - an impressive figure for a console just one year old.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe now stands at 9.22m sales, Zelda: Breath of the Wild at 8.48m sales, and Splatoon 2 on 6.02m. These figures include bundled copies and downloads.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch has already outsold the lifetime sales of Mario Kart 8 on Wii U (8.42m copies). Nintendo Switch eclipsed Wii U's lifetime console sales earlier this year. (Now discontinued, Nintendo's previous machine sold 13.5m units.)

Link to where MS said they gave up on Sea of Thieves. I provided mine showing they have a 10 year plan. The onus is on you.

Nice Mario Odyssey deserves those sales. As do the other games mentioned and The Switch.

You provided a link showing they "talked about" a 10 year plan. If Sea of Thieves isn't commercially viable, Microsoft won't support it. As it's looking right now, it probably won't be commercially viable.

What you mean Rares fastest selling game since tracking started?

Yeah that bombed.

When did tracking start? Why didn't MS announce specific numbers? What does "fastest" even mean?

I'm sure Sea of Thieves did well at launch but I think it's shedding players fast. Look at XBox Lives Most Played list and Twitch viewer count. Both metrics point to a game that can't hold the attention of players. This isn't good considering we're a month away from its release.

I guess there isn't much to discuss as you guys seem to be backing your side no matter what. Le sigh.

I'm just surprised you guys are giving Microsoft the benefit of the doubt considering they don't exactly have a track record of supporting money losers.

If the players are there, it will be supported. If they're not, it wont. It just doesn't look like it's going to have the players.

Have you played it yet

Tsk.. You know, I'd forgotten all about your extensive experience as a master developer and marketing director. Please tell us more from the holiest of basements and recliner you lounge as you share your wisdom with us.

Lol. Fuk me! Is this guy for real? !

He is for real. He has an "Uncle" that works for Microsoft on the RARE team.

So despite lots of 3rd party titles, the Switch is mostly for people who love Nintendo games. Which isn't too surprising. It's been that way with every Nintendo console I can remember.

I didn't even know they were still making PSP games.

I think there were some sitting on a shelf somewhere. I don't think they're still manufacturing them.

Truly "shipped but not sold."
