Missed this post yesterday, so just to clarify -- Zhuge isn't a "mysterious Resetera member." He's an administrator at Reset, and he's also an industry analyst; it's his job to know this stuff. He has access to data we do not. He's not mysterious; his real name is Daniel Ahmad. What he says on Reset reflects on him professionally, and he's accountable for it. He's very careful in what he says, and he's probably the most respected sales/data/numbers person there.

Unless you disagree with what he's saying, then it's #FAKE obviously. I only trust #truthfacts verified by sources I agree with, which I agree with because they're #truthfacts. #sarcasmfont

Microsoft confirms that EA numbers are inaccurate...

In a statement sent to Variety, Microsoft said those sales numbers were inaccurate, but declined to say how they were inaccurate or by how much.

“The projections are inaccurate,” a spokesperson told Variety. “Regardless, we are focused on delivering amazing gaming experiences to players on all devices and engagement is our measure of progress. We just announced a record start to the year with Xbox Live monthly active users up 13% to 59 million.”

What would Microsoft know about Xbox sales? I'm going to continue to believe EA.

Well, they only said "inaccurate". Could be too high an estimate, could be too low an estimate.

It's crazy how MS doesn't want to just clear this up by giving specific numbers.

I imagine they have sold like 5000 Xbox One consoles. Those 60 million XBL members are all on the 360.

They've teamed up with the goddamn Vogons and so they've sold one X millions of times. I'd try to stop them on behalf of the planet but, come to think of it, I'm not so sure that an unnecessary hyperspace bypass isn't a better situation.

UK sales for the week of May 12th.

God of War scores fourth consecutive No.1 in UK boxed charts

"It means that the game has surpassed The Last of Us: Remastered as the Sony-published PS4 game with the most consecutive No.1s. It's quite a specific feat, admittedly, and it's not exactly faced any real competition. But the game has been quite a sizeable hit for Sony, and it's comfortably the second biggest new game released this year behind Far Cry 5.

"What's worth calling out is the No.2 game of the week: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. It's the second week in a row it holds this position after suffering a slight 32% drop in sales - that's a good result for a game in its second week, and especially for a port of a title first released back in February 2014 on Wii U."

"There are ten platform exclusive games in the Top 20, which just goes to show that multi-platform isn't the only way to go."

Here is the UKIE/GfK Top 10 for the week ending May 12th.

1 God of War
2 Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
3 Far Cry 5
4 FIFA 18
5 Fallout 4
6 Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
7 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2
8 Assassin's Creed Origins
9 Grand Theft Auto V
10 Destiny 2

Re. UK chart this week...

Nintendo Labo dropped to #27 (after dropping to #13 last week). That bombed.

Sea of Thieves down to #20.

PUBG at #12, so it is still hovering just under the top 10.

I see that Sea of Thieves is the 2nd top selling game on PC/Xbox on the Xbox store. Still chugging along.

Current Amazon:

1. Switch
2. Xbox One X
3. Xbox One S PUBG (non game) Edition
4. PS4 Slim
5. Xbox One Standard

Odd to see neither the standard or GoW PS Pro in the top 100. Not sure why Xbox is selling so well, as I am sure that State of Decay 2 is not a system seller. State of Decay 2 is second behind God of War right now between PS and Xbox. There are 3 State of Decay sku's in the top 100, which is the best selling Xbox game at this time behind Far Cry 5 on Xbox.

Cue the "cowards" comments we heard all last gen from guys like Intelly when Sony didn't give specific PS3 numbers.. It's simple, when you're losing you're going to find any possible way to spin it into a positive. Although Sony has never trailed the competition by astronomical numbers like 30-40 million. So we can't say for sure they wouldn't tuck their tails too.

Speaking of astronomical, where's that astro dude at? Did he really quit the internet because Xbox no longer had the power and sales advantage? Yikes, talk about living life all the wrong ways. I can imagine he's somewhere playing PS4 and cursing the gods every day. Or maybe he hit puberty and real life kicked in. Who knows, but i miss him.

They seem to be having an issue with selling PS products. No PS4s, or God of War, or Detroit

Id take any negative Xbox numbers over a forum dude and a company that's to scared to share theres.

According to resetera the April NPD numbers look something like this

PS4: 326K
NSW: 171K
XB1: 132K

Year over year for April:

PS4: +58%
Switch: -39%
Xbox One: +20%

So in spite of an unimpressive number, Xbox is still up over April last year, which was very low.

Switch looks bad, but remember that's compared to a launch month. Otoh, "Labo missed retailer expectations, by a wide margin," and expectations "were not huge to begin with."

And PS4 ... well, that's the God of War effect.

HighlevelBlackAlligatorgar-size_restricted.gif

Cumulative for 2018:

YTD
PS4: ~1.3M (+7%)
NSW: ~1.03M (-13%)
XB1: ~980K (+34%)

That makes a PS4: Xbox ratio of about 1.3 to 1, which is closer than the 1.6 to 1 we saw last year.

p.s. PS4's sales were the best April performance for a console in over 8 years.

Correction: I said earlier that Welfare estimated Xbox US/WW percentage to be nearly 70%. Turns out, that was just for Q1 of this year. I asked him to estimate the overall percentage for this generation (US/WW for Xbox), and he said 57 to 58%. Another sales pro chimed in and said his estimate was 58% also.

p.s. And Sony is about 30% US. Compared to 45% last gen. That means Sony has seized most of the growth outside the US, which shouldn't surprise anyone.

Here's a graph, because I like graphs.

In case anyone's wondering, no, it won't match PS2 in sales. To quote Aquamarine (industry insider/leaker), "It's not going to catch PS2. The PS2 was an absolute juggernaut that was supported by Sony with new titles from 2000-2011 (the last official 1st-party Sony PS2 game was MLB: The Show 11 that released in March 2011). We are never going to see that level of extended support ever again, and that's just the consequence of the modern day...it's really hard to make 1st-party games nowadays because of their massive budgets, and when PS5 releases Sony has to go all-in on support and drop the PS4 like a rock."

"The PS2 released in a very unique period of gaming history that allowed it to flourish and reach stratospheric heights (lots of exclusive AAA games, cheap DVD player, Sony could afford to support the PS2 throughout the entire PS3 gen, etc). I honestly think with the PS2 the console industry hit its peak...we won't see those heights ever again."

Impressive that it's keeping pace, though.

Yeah you could tell God of War as moving some consoles, the standard PS4 was sold out on Amazon in the US for a few days and the Pro was at a much higher position than it usually is, actually there were two different PS4 Pro models doing well for the entire time that the standard PS4 was out of stock.

Go to see you are still around fighting the good fight.

UK

01 (01) GOD OF WAR (SONY COMPUTER ENT.)
02 (04) FIFA 18 (ELECTRONIC ARTS)
03 (NE) HYRULE WARRIORS: DEFINITIVE EDITION (NINTENDO)
04 (02) DONKEY KONG COUNTRY: TROPICAL FREEZE (NINTENDO)
05 (03) FAR CRY 5 (UBISOFT)
06 (07) LEGO MARVEL SUPER HEROES 2 (WARNER BROS. INTERACTIVE)
07 (08 ) ASSASSIN'S CREED ORIGINS (UBISOFT)
08 (06) MARIO KART 8 DELUXE (NINTENDO)
09 (09) GRAND THEFT AUTO V (TAKE 2)
10 (16) CALL OF DUTY: WWII (ACTIVISION BLIZZARD)

That's 5 in a row for God of War in the UK. It will probably lose the #1 spot next week to Detroit or some other game.

Hyrule Warriors' debut was ... ok. Mixed opinions on whether that did well or not.

Labo is #25. That is pretty clearly tanking.

Sea of Thieves is #26. After a strong debut, it seems to have dropped down the charts pretty quickly. Not unexpected.

PUBG is #15. Seems to be holding steady in that range.

This week on The Amazon Files....

1. Switch
2. Switch
3. Xbox One X
4. PS4 Slim

Top 100, no PS Pro and no Xbox One S present. Slow times......
