Paris Games Week - Playstation Media Showcase (Oct. 30)

They really have been putting out a lot of games, especially when you consider Santa Monica put out GOW Ascension in 2013 and PD put out GT6 in 2013 which was the year the PS4 was released.

That was 4 years ago, and they just now are getting a game out (Next year for Sony Santa Monica)

Hell, GT Sport is half the game it should be IMO

I don't call that a lot of games

That is why I said 5 years to get the picture of what they are doing as a whole. If you aren't happy with what Sony published from 2013-2017 then you probably won't be thrilled with what they do from 2018-2022.

I've been somewhat happy... This year was good, but prior PS4 years were very weak.

Next year looks to be Sony's best

You don't think the 10+ announced coming exclusives plus what we've gotten so far counts as a lot of games? Again those older games that SSM and PD made were released in the same year the console came out, that means those studios weren't working heavily on the PS4 until after it launched. Well SSM was working on a game that supposedly had over $100 million spent on it and cancelled it so that leaves a hole in their portfolio but those things happen, at least the game was never announced. PD always takes a long time and that's why their game on the PS4 Pro rivals the visual quality of an Xbox One X Forza game, does it have the content you want? sounds like it doesn't but they are a studio that takes their time. You should not expect every single game they make to appeal directly to you, if they make stuff that you don't want it doesn't mean that they didn't release anything or that they don't have something coming.

You went somewhere I never even hinted at... Was this made up to win an argument, and to defend Sony's Devs?

Interesting debate here! I will say I think Sony has announces some games too early, Spider-man, Dreams, TLOU PT 2, Death Stranding and Detroit could have been announced a year later. The reality is that Sony will not be announcing many more games this gen, and anyone who is disappointed needs to understand they only have limited number of studios. On the other hand people know that in the next two years you will have God Of War, Spider-man, Detroit, Dreams,TLOU PT2, Days Gone, WiLD,Ghost of Tsushima,Shadow of Colossus, the next MLB and probably a few others I am forgetting about. People can be disappointed in the lack of announcements but Sony has such a stellar line up coming people should not care. Plus they deserve great respect and applause for having the gusto to invest in new I.P with Horizon already out and Days Gone, Dreams, Ghost of Tsushima, Detroit and Death Stranding to follow.

No because there is no winning an argument with you, you just keep going and going. There is no reason to defend Sony's devs, they all have announced projects or just released some, don't see what the problem is here other than you not counting games that don't appeal to you.

What? So let me ask... What games did I not count?

They have well over 10 announced exclusives coming for the PS4 and that's not counting VR yet you say they don't have a lot of games, you tell me what does and doesn't count in your mind.

Again SSM had a game cancelled that was deep into development, that explains the hole they have in their AAA release schedule, PD always takes a long time and while you don't consider GTS to be a full game fans of the series seem to like it. Personally I couldn't care less about sim racers but the game for what it is does seem to be of a high quality and I accept that, not every 1st party game needs to be strictly for me.

Sony probably does announce too early but at the same time I can't really come up with a reason to be bothered by it and I am not convinced anyone else is either.

Yeah MS and Sony both have been bad about that this gen, MS used to use E3 as a showcase for games that were coming before the next conference, then we got scalebound, Crackdown 3 and more announced years before they came out or were cancelled. Sony announced TLOU2 pretty early, I just wish they'd start waiting until they actually have gameplay to show before they announce games vs "in engine" footage or CGI trailers.

I think part of it is also our impatience and not wanting to wait for games that look good but aren't ready for release yet, these things take time to make and we all want what looks good now.

I've never minded the early announcements. I'm just glad the games are on the way. I've got more than enough to play for now. It's been that way the past 2 years. First year or two was slim, but I still had plenty to play.

It sounds a bit like entitlement to me. "I want what I want when I want it! Gimme gimme! More more!"

Just be patient. Sony has been really delivering the past couple years. More great games are coming in the next 6 to 12 months.

I've got nothing to complain about. I'm grateful.

TLOU 2 is the perfect example of why it doesn't matter. Sure it didn't need to be quite that early but we always knew it was getting made so no harm in seeing some footage along the way. Its not like anyone has to watch it.

And its not like things would have been any better for Scalebound if they announced it 2 years later.

Yeah it just adds to frustration that's all. TLOU2 was obviously going to be made as you said, personally I'd rather wait and see in game footage than in engine but I know ND is a top shelf developer and the game will look amazing when it finally does come out. I think most of us would rather see the actual game vs something the game can't quite live up to when it comes to visuals but at least we see the tone they are going for.

I feel bad for people who were looking forward to crackdown 3, that game was announced in 2014 with a CGI trailer, they waited three years to see gameplay and then what was shown looked like a port of a 360 game IMO and on top of that it got delayed because it just wasn't up to snuff even after all that time.

I'll be at PSX again this year since I only live like 30 mins from the convention. I bought the 2 day pass this time. Not sure I will go both days but Sunday is a for sure date for me because of the Capcom Cup.

Wait what? They confirmed it's ingame not inengine. But obviously it's a realtime cutscene like Uncharted 4.

I read in engine real-time cut scene, either way it was a cut scene but the game is going to look great I'm sure, UC4 did..

How can it be in engine and realtime? That don't make sense.

I'm always surprised when these discussions come up. We have Uncharted 1, 2, 3, 4, The Lost Legacy, and The Last of Us to know what Naughty Dog is doing here. The cutscenes are using the game engine to render but look a bit better than gameplay because they add a few more effects and textures to pretty things up. The Last of Us 2 isn't going to look that good but pretty darn close.

Rendered in real-time as opposed to an offline render to video (basically CG using game assets); which is what they did on PS3. Since the move to PS4, they've been using all real-time rendered stuff IIRC.

In game and cut scene don't make sense either as in game would mean gameplay right? in engine real time is using in game assets but they are generally bumped up a little bit, that's different than a pre-rendered or CGI cut scene. I don't know, it could just be the way the people who write the articles word it but I highly doubt the gameplay actually looks that good, I'm sure it looks amazing but what was shown couldn't be using pure in game graphics IMO.

In-Engine and Realtime would be like when you have a Cut-Scene and it allowed you to move the camera around.

In-Game is gameplay

ND words not mine....

Can we cool out on the console warrioring a little, please?

Personally I wasn't bothered by seeing God of War, Last of Us, Detroit, etc., again. I know they're not coming tomorrow. I appreciate the updates.

Personally I'd be fine if Sony slowed the game train down a bit. They are giving me more games than I can keep up with.

For sure. It's plenty of games. There are plenty of games going around as well. more than enough for everyone. They will get here, and I do like knowing what they have in the works. It's reassuring, whereas on the MS exclusive side, they really don't like to show stuff until it's much closer to release (or at least, expected release).

I'd love to get some snippets of what else they are working on. It doesn't make much sense to criticize Sony as an MS fanboy when MS is waay worse about their upcoming titles. I mean, we get ambiguous and borderline useless dev videos on Sot, absolutely nothing on Crackdown 3, and We probably won't see anything on Halo 6 until at least spring. We haven't even seen anything substantial on the X1 version of PUBG which is supposedly releasing this year!

Regardless, I'm not hurting on games (actually quite drowning in them), though I'd love to see some Below show up too.

Usually the use of "IN-ENGINE" means it's not gameplay or it's a render using in-game assets/effects. Much like how DICE uses the Engine to render the scene, but it's at higher settings than you could achieve in real-time.

I'd think of it more like a replay in Gran Turissmo where they bump up rendering because they don't have to render AI or anything. An in-game cutscene is more like in ACO where it cuts to a specific animation or camera angle, but it keeps the simulation going in the background.

This is Naughty Dog.

Their PS3 game trailers were called in game and ended up 100 % prerendered.
Uncharted 4 was 1080p/60 and missed that mark too. Their GDC slides later admitted that they ran it beyond the PS4 capabilities.

I did a longer run down 2 years ago

Even if this was 100% real time in engine in game real time gameplay and I could download it today as a playable demo while moving the camera round, too much misleading in the past has lost them the benefit of doubt. Too many cry wolfs!

Having said that it looks well within the realms of real time visuals for 2019. Its the wet shaders throwing people off. Or subterfuge.

I can appreciate that. I just always think Naughty Dogs games look pretty darn close to their cutscenes. I have no doubt The Last of Us 2 is going to look like that cutscene.

I think it'll look close but not quite at that level, much like the Nathan Drake "in engine" model from UC4's announcement reveal, they kept saying it was in engine and a few ND employees said in game but either way he wasn't quite as detailed as that when the game came out, the model still looked amazing in game though.
