While Sony has repeatedly shown of portions of the PlayStation 4's dashboard and architecture, Microsoft has refrained from doing so. However, according to Albert Penello, Senior Director of Product Management, that will soon change. "Very soon," Penello tweeted today in response to another user who asked him when the "architecture guys" would talk about the Xbox One.
Penello has been pretty quite since he took to NeoGAF to dispute rumors which said the Xbox One was giving up a 30 percent power advantage to the PS4. When he offered details regarding the console's specifications, the community even began to question his line of reasoning.
Shortly after, he took off to Tokyo Game Show (TGS) and began showing off the Xbox One's lineup.

Well...now the 30% has gone up to 50%. Hope they have some good news.

It doesn't matter who says what, GAF will find excuses to dismiss what is said anyhow. I'd like to see Panello set up a round of interviews with MS's and AMD's engineers to go over design philosophy/motivations/considerations/priorities as well as walk through the decisions to go more fixed function on the processing side and give a detailed run down of how they expect devs to leverage their specialized kit. Interviews with DF, Anandtech, Arstechnica, techcrunch, etc. Do an AMA over at B3d and Reddit (f*** GAF) after the various interviews go live. Maybe MS could set up some devs to dig into the details of how they are using the X1 architecture as well.

Then when the various websites start backpedalling on their premature 'durr 50% more powah!' nonsense from February with new articles questioning the GAF hivemind's consensus we can sit back and enjoy the meltdowns as GAF'ers turn on all the publications (like they already have with DF). :p

Doesn't stop there. Some tech blog "telephoned" that information into an article with a title that says 50 x (times) the power.

Pretty soon PS4 will be energizing an entire solar system.

That sounded beautiful.

Previous PlayStations' have been military grade only natural that the solar system would be next. It will be interesting to see what comes out of this.

Great plan. And single handedly removes GAF's respect threshold in the industry. That site is nothng of what it once represented.

i'd also like to hear the above. but i don't expect Xbox to be anything other than the lower spec'd console.

i'd also like MS to start showing the multi-plats that are coming to the system and running on Xbox. not sum dumbed down PC.

Iv'e lurked and been a member of that site since like 2003, it's always had it's crazies on both sides. What's up people? How everyone liking new forums?

A thread ran for several days in the IGN Xbox forum titled Why is Microsoft Releasing A Less Powerful Console Than The PS4? So I posted a rebuttle thread called Why Is Sony Releasing A Less Capable Console Than The XB1? MY thread was shut down almost immediately, but it was asking a legitimate question. How do the two consoles compare, not from a power perspective, but from a capability standpoint?

That title is crazy Hammer. Anyone thinking that Microsoft is going to allow Sony to 1up them is nuts and will be severely disappointed when these consoles release. Not for nothing but thats just crazy talk.

Your lucky they didn't put the ropes on you.

Some of you xbox fans seem a little too concerned about the ps4. You seem to bring it up every time. You should just be looking forward to the xbox and forget about this 30% or 50% power difference drivel. You won't notice a difference in multiplats and if ps4 would show any power advantage, it would only be in exclusives that are released in the later years of its life. Otherwise the consoles are pretty neck and neck.

Why would you want to interview those suits when you can interview DEM EXPERTZ at teh GAF?

True. I'm sure GAF would love to have MS's engineers interview GAF's self-proclaimed experts to so that MS could learn how the X1 was built. ha.

im interesting in hearing the benefits of the system as a whole and also kinect integration. ps4 doesn't have a holistic approach on the same lines as x1.

Just like I suspected. All of that "We can't wait to show you the truth" and "In the coming months you'll see" was all just a smoke screen.

Let this be a lesson. When someone tells you it's not about money, it's ABOUT money. When someone tells you that their paper specs don't tell the full story, their paper specs TELL THE FULL STORY.
Your jumping way ahead of yourself Ghost. Paper specs aren't amounting to squat. Seriously, the only smoke screen is the one Sony is presenting to all of us right now when the games are on par equally for both consoles, this includes the paper specs. Again, let the games speak for the system the way they always have.

By the way he doesn't say that none of it's true mate, he's saying to not expect a bomb. 10:1 what will be explained in the future about the architecture in the X1 by the engineers will be debated, bashed and doubted regardless the outcome.

There doesn't have to be dGPU's or 7990's etc obviously, as X1 games look great! That's all many ever care about.

Well I definitely agree with you on games. And I hope MS realizes that they're going to need a serious number of exclusives to set them apart this generation. They aren't going to be able to count on the multiplatformers to make their case for them anymore. They're going to need exclusives that take full advantage of whatever the hardware is capable of.

As for the X1's architects, do you really believe that whatever they end up revealing will have an impact on how games are developed? The only thing Penello is saying is that they're going to talk about the X1.

You know what:

The Xbox One is going to be a fun console.

The PS4 is going to be a fun console.

At the end of the day, I'd have fun on either. That's all that matters to me. I don't care "what's in the box".
