Official Thread Playstation VR

I'll be ordering a few of these. Anyone with more cash than sense, hit me up.

"Users can enjoy content on a virtual screen up to 225 inches (5 meters in width) at a distance of 2.5 meters. The size of the screen will feel different depending on individual users."

Get a few kids involved and you'll be surprised. ;)
As long as they remain at least 100ft away, I'm fine with that. Jk.

That game is filler dude. Dont fluff this up to something that it isn't. It isn't a party game. This is literally segregating people. Have you wrangled children before? Kids live the Kinect stuff as long as its simple and its responsive, Wii was speed for them, and good ol' party games supreme.

You have a helmet on your head with headphones on? Not interacting with others.

Without headphones? You're still not sharing the experience.

They should throw in an amazing single player game on the cheap. Heck, even the vr component of Driveclub.

Let's put it this way: my little girl and wife will enjoy it. :)

I'll send you some chalk and a blind fold. As soon as there's more than one kid/coke involved, I know which will win!

When I've had kids come over, 3d movies barely kept them entertained. Picturing kids with $500 worth of gear... Makes me nervous.

Your gamble dude. That game is fluff, no matter how you sell it. You wouldn't buy the device for that game.

LoL

No, but I completely understand where you are coming from, though. Since its there, I might as well put it to use is all I am saying. Its definitely not anything I would put on the top of my list.

I'll be holding off on VR for a while. My hopes are to buy an upgraded PC later this year and target it towards Oculus and Star Citizen. That plan could change though so we'll see.

I think going fwd w ps5 this be a thing. The ps4 version seems tacked on and borderline gimmicky.

Sales of PS4 Camera & Move controller skyrocket after PS VR announcement

http://www.videogamer.com/news/sale...ler_skyrocket_after_ps_vr_announcement_2.html

And so it begins....
It's not that hard to have such a surge in sales for a product that is selling nothing. If they're selling 10 a week a jump to 3050 is minuscule. We know they weren't selling 10's of thousands of them a day.

Didn't you also say earlier that so many people already had the camera? If so many people already had it sales wouldn't "skyrocket."

"We’re partnering very closely with our big retail partners to come up with experiential activities over the next six months before launch. We’ll have a big presence at E3, of course, as we always do. And I think you might even see some of our — you know, we have these PlayStation trucks that we send across America to different events, like college campuses or sporting events. We use that kind of outreach to create more opportunities for people to get their hands on it. We really want people to get their hands on it. We want to make sure our retail partners, sales associates, they need to understand that really closely."

Ok, I got to thinking about this. With the console launching in October, I'm wondering if Sony plans to cut the price of the actual system permanently sometime this year. I know they are going to do it for black Friday, which is a huge plus for those without the console at all, or maybe they'll bundle the camera with the actual system. I'm thinking Sony is going to play this game in the opposite direction; rather than fighting to decrease the cost of the headset, I think they are going to bend this strategy into individual pieces of hardware. I mean, because originally the camera was $60 and the Move controller $50. Now you can get them pretty cheap. Its an interesting thought.

Were calling the PSVR a console now or is that a typo?

Nobody was buying them. Stores like Best Buy were not even stocking them in many locations. And trying to search for them online to buy they are in obscure websites.

So if you just have the PS4 console (me) and no other peripherals how much does it all cost to get the optimal PSVR experience?

PSVR - £350
PS Camera - £40
PS Move controller - £25

£390 without Move controllers
£415 with one Move Controller
£440 with two Move Controllers

I think VR is still not ready for prime time. The PC is the best place for it for now.

I just hope all the games aren't walking simulators/puzzle games/ or stand in one spot and interact with stuff in 360 degrees games.

Even on PC I haven't seen a lot of traditional games yet.

Did Amazon already do a pre-order?
I don't think Amazon in the USA did yet. Sony announced on their Twitter that USA/Canada pre-orders in general are "coming soon". Amazon just has a placeholder page up. Gamestop n best buy don't even have it listed. I went to gamestop this morning n they were not taking pre-orders today, guy there said maybe tomorrow.

Well the Move is $30
PlayStation Camera $45
PS VR $400

The Dualshock 4's lightbar will act as the second hand. So yeah, that would be the elite experience.

Can the Giant TV function be used with other HDMI devices?

From what I understand, it works for just the PS4 system. So that doesn't mean you'll be able to hook it up to your tv for cable or something and that be transferred to the headset.

Now that you mentioned that, I think this is going to be one of the bigger advantages to Playstation Vue. It makes me wonder about remote play now. I just thought of something else too. Yoshida said that share play was a secret for the headset in which they are not looking to announce till later on.

I doubt it. Golem, Ark, and World War Toons are just a few off the top of my head that actually requires moment throughout the level. They have a bit for everything for everyone.

Yeah right, if Microsoft was doing their own VR i'm sure you'd be all over it. ;)

Who knows though, this thing could take off like the Wii did or it could go the way of Kinect. Big sales early and then dead within a few years with no support. All i know, is Sony better keep supporting their consoles. They already have a dead device on the market with the PS Vita.

its a shame euro gamers wont be buying it as u need a camera. :p

Sony Will Sell PlayStation VR At A Profit

"I think for us, we weren't really looking at the other guys," Boyes says. "The same goes for the price point. It wasn't predicated on anyone else's prices. Obviously we need to make money on the unit, but we've been in the consumer electronics business for a long time, so our ability to source great, high quality parts is a big part of it."

Seeing how Sony has more experience in this area, this doesn't surprise me not one bit.

It's pretty obvious why it's cheaper.
