Post E3, what are your purchases for this year?

I have to double check the title for this thread, to realize this is not a VS thread. Couldn't have tell from the posts.

I was expecting posts like, "I am going to get MGS (or Fallout) as the gameplay shown at E3 looks sick"...or something a long these lines.

Lol @ the selective reading.

De3d1

The Order 1886 was targering a niche audience with TPS mechanics. Its definitly more risky than Halo especially considering its a new IP.

Ive responded to the question.

Not sure what else to tell people Im burned out on those franchises , I'm not interested in playing them anytime soon. I could easily get more hours out of titles that interst me on Ps4. GG Revelation alone is a good 70+ hours.

To the people naming 2014 titles, You obviously didnt read my post carefully.

Horizon had been worked by a small team in Guerilla for years while they tried multiple times to get Sony to approve it, it wasn't a simple "Sure".

Actually, it was. They followed a formula that all development studios do. At a certain point, you go to a publisher and say "will you fund this game for us" and Sony gave them a green light.

Sony seems to encourage this idea more than, erm, other publishers.

No. In an the interview one of the guys from guerrilla said explicitly that it took multiple attempts to get Horizon ok'd from Sony. I'll see if i can find it.

Multiple attempts?! Who's to say this isn't common place?

It probably is in some cases. Just wanted to find an illustration on how sony's changed to point out that its not fair to compare the Sony of now with bad decisions MS made under a different regime. Who knows if today if Bungie/MS would have split.

And yes i'm aware that 343, Turn 10 are studios for specific games, however that doesn't mean that if some of the creative people on those teams had something different to be pitched that they couldn't get a new team for it. We don't know yet its too early in Spencer's time as head to see how it all works out.

Was Spencer at his current position when MS struck a deal with Epic to create more Gears of War? Wasn't he in charge when Black Tusk became The Coalition, which is a Gears only studio? Shouldn't that kind of tell us something?

Yes. They know there are a lot of people who enjoy this series. Also it makes money so its a financial responsible thing to do, which in turn can also help fund other projects.

And since he's become head Rare got to do what they wanted. Yes The Coalition is now a gears studio that doesn't necessarily mean that talented people from there can't be split to a new team to work on something else if they have an idea to pitch, we don't know the internal workings so we can't say one way or another right now. He seems to have an eye for stuff(ORI, Cuphead) and seems to listen to feedback and has said he's really interested in new IP. At the rate XBOX has turned around since he's taken over(also insert Nadella here too, MS has gone in better direction in general) I'd lean towards giving him the benefit of the doubt right now.

Well...not really.

The Master Chief Collection is 4 Halo games, and that came out in 2014.
Isn't there a Gears of War Remaster coming before the next Gears game in 2016?
Fable: The Journey came out in 2012.
Then you kind of act like MS's rapid fire Forza pattern is acceptable.

Anyway, it's BS because you responded to the following quote by Zero-O...

"I personally think the lineup is insulting. The Only worthy game on your list is TR and Rare Replay. Im burned out on sequels in general. If the game doesnt do anyrhing new or capture my interest time to move on. Gears and Halo ran it course at E3 and I was was actually hype for Gears.
As a gamer you guys should want more, demand more. Now were suppose to be excited cause Forza added weather effects? Smdh , "Cash Grab."

Now let's ignore the Tomb Raider, Rare Replay, and Cash Grab comments for a moment. Zero-O is addressing the fact that these franchises have grown stale for a certain percentage of the population. Halo 5 will largely play like Halo 1. Gears 5 will largely play like Gears 1. Forza is Forza etc... Not only will they play the same but we've already been introduced to these worlds, these characters, these premises time and time again.

Some people crave novelty.
Other people crave familiarity.

What group do you think intelligent people belong to? I'm just surprised there are so many people here who bought the Xbox One to play the 5th, 6th, 7th, and maybe 8th Halo games on their Xbox One.

It just bugs the s*** out of me, and should to all of you, that Geurilla Games asked Sony to make something other than Killzone and Sony said "Sure." Bungie asked MS to make something other than Halo and MS responded with "This isn't going to work out."

Don't you people want talented developers to make new creative things? How this doesn't excite you is beyond me.
Nothing wrong with sequels. People want it, so companies make it.

The reason MS makes so many Halo games is people want them and they are solid games. And so are Forza games which have expanded to two types of games - circuit and open world.

Sony has tried milking games too with tons of sequels. The difference is that they typically fizzle out with lacking quality or dead communities so that's why they don't make them as much. But if Socom or Killzone were still good, they surely be working on more:

KZ 2 (2009)
KZ 3 (2011)
KZ collections pack (2012)
KZ SF (2013)
KZ Mercenary (2013)

And here's another shooter:

Resistance (2006)
Resistance 2 (2008 )
Resistance Retribution (2009)
Resistance 3 (2011)
Resistance Trilogy Pack (2012)
Resistance Burning Skies (2012)

And don't forget God of War:

GoW (2005)
GoW 2 (2007)
GoW Betrayal (crappy cellphone game) (2007)
GoW Chains (2008 )
GoW Collection 1 (2009)
GoW 3 (2010)
GoW Ghosts (2010)
GoW Collection 2 (2011)
GoW Saga Collection (2012)
GoW Ascension (2013)
GoW 3 Remaster (2015)

As for sequal-itis, Sony joins EA Sports with their annual baseball game. And baseball isn't even a big seller like FIFA or Madden, yet they keep churning them out with zero regard for improving online, to get some quick sales as it's the only baseball game left.

Xbox Elite Controller
Halo 5
Forza 6
Rare Replay

Tomb Raider and Fallout are absolute purchases but I'll wait until 2016. The 3 games I'll purchase are too much of a time sink to buy anything else at full price in 2015.

Good call. I got 5 games on promo pre-order:

- Halo 5
- Forza 6
- Star Wars
- NHL 16
- Fallout 4

I'm thinking about cutting out Halo and SW. Not big into sci-fi shooters and I see them being cheap in 2016 digital deals. And the games will have a big enough following to still have big MP communities well into 2016. And TR too some time in 2016.

Day one:
Halo 5
Tomb Raider
Rare Replay
Gears Ultimate Edition
Forza 6
Cuphead
Fallout 4
NBA 2k16

If I wasn't trying to be more financially responsible, my list would be 100% exactly like yours. Cuphead is coming in 2016 though.

Yeah. There's bound to be specials around New Years and then into the next summer. This Fall is the year of the time sinks. You could buy 3 games and never have enough time for them.

Heck I might even cancel all of them except Fallout 4. And then get cheap $40 deals for F6 and NHL at Black Friday or Xmas. Both those games come out in Sept, so a few months of time may be enough to tank the games to $40 digital deals.

It doesn't help that prices in Canada are now $75-80.

I think assigning entire studios to one specific franchise makes it more difficult for creatives at that franchise to explore their creativity.

I mean look at Polyphony Digital. They're basically Sony's Turn 10 right? Only Sony seems to be more hands off with that company whereas MS seems to be riding Turn 10 pretty hard with their every two years mandate.

I just think if you're a talented creative individual who's interested in pushing innovation, you're not going to want to work at 343i, The Coalition, or Turn 10. And to be quite honest, I'm sure MS is managing their other studios in similarly poor fashion.

For me, it's tough to support/respect that kind of philosophy.

I admire a company that puts out AAA titles or near AAA titles and stick to their release date. It means they have their s*** together. But that right console wars zzzzzzzz. Let's have Turn 10 to have the creative freedom to do a FPS shooter next. Nevermind Turn 10 is basically a brand in of itself as doing quality work for racing games. Turn 10= Forza.

It all depends on the person. Some people like to to move on from one thing to another, others may make it there life's goal to perfect car/tire physics. Different philosophies, one is not 'better' than the other. And if you have a family the stability of 343, Turn 10 is probably quite nice.

343 and Turn 10 work on an iterative cycle. It may seem robotic but really its a smart way to improve upon a creative concept. If turn 10 doesn't take a step back and do Forza 5 do we have 450 next gen models for Forza 6, do they get all that data from the drivatars which allow them to expand on them and allow different types to be selectable; you need lots of data to make sense of it. Look at what happened to GT5, instead of taking a step back like GT3 to move forward later they took there time and really disappointed some of us car nuts with the PS2 models. Is that really respectable?

I'm realizing E3 actually had a negative impact on my game purchases lol. I had a pretty decent sized list of likely purchases, but am down to only Batman and Just Cause on Day 1, and Tomb Raider being very likely. The rest either had negative impressions (Star Wars) or the gameplay just didn't look amazing (Halo 5).

My list is evolving, but thus far

Fallout 4
Rare Replay
Battlefront
UC4
Forza 6
Halo 5
Tomb Raider

Thing about Sony is they constantly had New IPs. On 360 you were forced to play those gamez except XBLA. Not Sure why its hard to undersand. 360 was disappointing in last years and that's coming from someone who prefered Xbox since the original. Overall Sony had better games last gen IMO, enough to sway me to their brand.

I personally think Gears, Halo and Fable are played out like CoD.
