I noticed that we didn't have a thread dedicated to Raids, so here we go. Right now there is one Raid in Destiny. The Vault of Glass. There will be 2 new Raids with the future expansions. Enough with the formalities, lets discuss.

I tried The Vault of Glass 2 separate times today, with 2 separate groups of people. The first group was cobbled together sending invites in the Tower. In this group we had 3 people who were not the recommended level. Needless to say we failed miserably. The second group, everyone except 1 was level appropriate. It took some subclass tweaking, and communication, but we finally managed to enter the Vault. We all celebrated in front of the open Vault-

I wont spoil any ones experience by going into detail about what you are about to face, at least not until more people are familiar with it. But I suggest making sure that your fireteam is made up of level appropriate players. Everyone should be prepared to work together and unleash hell when necessary. Although its a 6 player mode, and you might think "oh 6 players, it will be easy", you couldn't be more wrong to think that.

Yeah. Tried it last night but only one of us was 26. We couldn't even open the door. I'd love to do this mission but the r******d loot system basically is holding me at 23 because I'm getting nothing but junk and can't advance until I get my vanguard rank higher.

I got 3 or 4 Legendary drops today, and all of them gave me Rare items. I don't know if you already knew this, but you get items every time you Gold a Public Event, and every time you level up the Cryptarch. I have gotten several valuable items this way.

Yeah. Got a few from public events and I've been trying to level up the cryptarch but its very slow going.

How far did you get in the raid ?

We made it to the second attack. From what Ive heard there are 6 total. The spawning is different in the 2nd attack. When someone goes down, it starts a revive countdown that you have to wait on. Also, the person has to be revived, there is no respawn. Similar to the 1st attack, when something goes wrong it can instantly all collapse like a house of cards.

Damn. Did you see the news report on the clan that finished the mission? It took 11 hours and they died nearly 2000 times between them!

Is buying engrams the only way to lvl up the crytarch?

No. Using him to decode engrams you find or receivie also levels him up. I did drop 7k in credit buying junk from him to help get from 2 to 3

Okay cool, I never really noticed the lvl meter creep up when he's decoding stuff that I've found. It more noticeable when it stuff I've bought from him.

It bumps him up alright. The more rare the engram, the more it increases his rank.

I would definitely like to run this raid sometime soon. I'm trying to at least get to level 25 before trying it. I'm currently stuck at level 24, but I'm close.

25 will only cut it if you have multiple other players at least 26.

Well, I'll let them worry about them, and I'll worry about my "prerequisites". I've ended up carrying guys 3-4 ranks above me multiple times through level 26 strikes because I have knack for staying alive during these things. I know these raids are going to be difficult, but I'm more useful than one might think.

I like it, soldier. Carry on.

The group that I made it into the Vault with were all atleast 26, with the exception of 1 lvl 24. Its not all about survival, you actually respawn very quickly on the first section. We had to adjust our subclasses as a whole team to make it into the Vault. We also had to let everyones Super charge, and hit the objectives simultaneously. Even then we failed several times before we finally made it.

You will learn to hate the Vex Praetorian.

Yeah I like to do raids soon too. Going to try get to 26 by end of this weekend.

I'd like to do a raid, I'm just trying to figure out how this whole Leveling up past 20 works.

How much light do you need to get to another level? And can you level up past 20 just by playing crucible or do you have to play the stuff on the left hand side of the destination screen?

And if you sell/dismantle a weapon with light points, do you lose the points?

Well if you cap your marks each week you'll be able to get epic gear and if you get strange coins on friday-saturday a NPC shows up with good rewards, last week was a nice helm that gives ton of light.

other than that its pretty much just doing strikes/pvp and hoping to get epic gear by some luck.

If you are only going to do crucible make sure you join one of the 3 factions

So do you have to wear that armor to level up then? And if you remove/dismantle it, you lose your light and level?

Do you need to join a faction if you do Strike missions? Sorry for derailing this thread, I'm just trying to level up for legendary armor so that I can play raids, but I'm finding this 20+ crap kind of confusing.

Like no matter what I'm equipping, my light score is staying at 20.

No but you will earn rep for it if you are wearing the faction class item. Their gear requires crucible marks to purchase so thats why I mentioned it.

look at the armor you have does it say + light on it?

You need to find and farm for higher level gear that contain +light.

You need to find high level Rare armor, Legendary armor, or Exotic armor. The gear will have a +Light rating in its description. After you equip armor with +Light, your level will rise. Then to raise your Light level further you need to upgrade the armor.

You can find armor with a +Light rating in any game mode. You get Vanguard marks for PvE if the mode specifies it. You earn Crucible marks for the PvP. PvE and PvP have separate vendors. I would suggest taking a look at each vendors wares. When you see gear you want then do the appropriate mode to earn the marks to buy it.

Yea I know how to spot that, I have like 16 light points. I realized that the '20' light number is what I need to reach the next level.

It's kinda cool, but this stuff is also pretty damn confusing at first, but after reading here, reading other sites, walking around the tower for 20, and looking through my inventory, I believe I have a solid grasp on this now.

Thank you guys.

Yeah, I was confused for awhile on how people were above level 20. Now it's just the frustration of waiting for drops. Got my first legendary yesterday and just about scared everyone in the house I was so happy.

11 hours?! Yikes.
Yeah, I find this pretty ridiculous. I know the Raids are supposed to be a challenge and all (was thinking 2-3 hours max) but 10-11 hours to complete? Nobody but college kids or unemployed folks without families have that kind of time to dedicate to this (and yes, I'm jealous of the lot of them  :). All kidding aside, I'm sure folks will do it quicker as better strategies are found, however, that is still ridiculous. Almost as silly as not having matchmaking for them. Guess I'll have to stick to Strikes.
