Raid Stories

Yeah, I find this pretty ridiculous. I know the Raids are supposed to be a challenge and all (was thinking 2-3 hours max) but 10-11 hours to complete? Nobody but college kids or unemployed folks without families have that kind of time to dedicate to this (and yes, I'm jealous of the lot of them  :). All kidding aside, I'm sure folks will do it quicker as better strategies are found, however, that is still ridiculous. Almost as silly as not having matchmaking for them. Guess I'll have to stick to Strikes.

The raid saves periodically, you don't need to finish it in one sitting. The only thing is that you need the same fire team leader and the saves only last a week.

You just explained why there is no matchmaking for it

Ok, that seems more reasonable but at the same time I guess you really can't do it with randoms unless you are the fireteam leader. The only way to really do it is plan it out with a "clan" such that you could continue correctly. I just don't have time for that sh*t anymore...;).

Yes because Bungie themselves have said these raids require above average teamwork that placing randoms together just won't cut it. You need to be able to communicate and strategize.

Well might be but Bungie is better off protecting people by keeping matchmaking away for now. The game just needs better tools in general to group up.
I just don't see that as reason to not have options. People who want to group up can do so while randoms can random to their hearts content.

The reason is because a random group isn't beating it. Anyone who wants to do it would be better served looking elsewhere to find a group.

That's not a reason. It just says one way is harder than the other. They can push one above the other, maybe make it harder to reach or something, but it's still no reason to not offer the option entirely. Not to mention, that's a good way to find new people to go on raids with. Someone wants to try some teamwork? Hay, me too. Boom, we just friended each other.

I've already had a few guys drop out in the middle of Strikes. I can't imagine what it would be like to have someone with no patience drop out in the middle of a Raid.

It isn't a good way. The game doesn't have good ways. You would be forced to invite them all into a party because you can't talk otherwise and even then you are just praying you have someone you can actually deal with and no matter what happens you still aren't beating the raid.

How is it not a good way? If you meet someone in a game full of randoms that engage in teamwork for a co-op or team competitive based game, you're likely to send that person some kind of invite or friend request and vice versa. Instead, you opt for less options because random based raids are just too hard to handle. This is how online gaming works in general really. Not that bad a thing.

But what about the other 99% when it doesn't happen? You will be just smashing your face into a wall. Like I said I want to them add some ability for people to group up in general and leave matchmaking for stuff randoms can actually beat.

99%? Really? You've personally done the research on that there? Plus, you're still saying because it's really f***ing hard, there should be no option. That's not a reason. If someone doesn't want to play random, guess what, they won't have to. Some people will just want to jump in and play the game, be it successful or not. Let the gamers make that choice for themselves.

Guys, it is absolutely impossible to do the Raid with randoms. It is very, very much communication, teamwork, and complex game play. Also, 11 hours is a speed run compared to what myself and my Raid mates have experienced. It is every bit the challenge that Bungie has described. Don't take me the wrong way though. When your fireteam makes it to the next level it is some of the most memorable, and sweetest victories you can imagine. It blows Dark Souls to pieces.

We made it to the Vault of Glass tonight. All we have to accomplish now is to make it into the Vault, and defeat the final boss.
Here is us after we defeated The Templar-

You guys are going to love the section after the Templar. Yes... its a co op stealth mission.

Wow, looks intense.

This is why it's still too early to put out a finite score for Destiny especially if you haven't played a raid yet.

Do you need to join a faction if you do Strike missions? Sorry for derailing this thread, I'm just trying to level up for legendary armor so that I can play raids, but I'm finding this 20+ crap kind of confusing.

Like no matter what I'm equipping, my light score is staying at 20.
I thought so, so I joined New Monarch and wore their colors until I realized I couldn't buy anything unless I had crucible marks also. Naturally I just went back to Vanguard.

I'm sorry bruh, but have you watched a Raid on Twitch or You Tube? IMO it can't be done with randoms. People who knew each other were yelling and telling each other what needs to be done. Are you going to let some 12 year old yell at you for 11+ hours telling you what you are doing wrong?

I'm sorry bruh, but that argument might as well make online gaming ban all random games.

If randoms can pull it off or not the option of matchmaking and giving it a try should be given.

What should be given is the ability to communicate in the tower. That would lead to people grouping up and actually making a real attempt at it.

In general, we should just be given the option to communicate. Who's bright idea was it to have team-based PvP without voice chat available to those you join?

The funny part is most randoms I have played Destiny with outside of my XBL friends don't even have a MIC plugged in though...so there is that..
Well, I used to go "Party Only" but I'm now softening on that in favor of trying to have better communication outside my playing buddies as it's only usually 2 or 3 of us (remember the good 'ol days of Xbox Live when folks were generally cool and polite?). I'm giving that a go anyway and will party up only when necessary. At one point, I had everybody on mute by default BUT my friends list ...yes, they actually had that option and you had to set it through Xbox.com....it was a permanent party mode! That was the height of the CoD dayz when the d*cks were out in full force. As much as I really like CoD, it is really hard not to party up in that game.....holy hell.

As to Raids, it comes off as if they're only for an exclusive club. How many folks that play Destiny are going to bother getting up to the level requirement (past the cap) and finding 6 "friends" to partner up with to boot? The barrier to entry is pretty high and IMO, should have zero bearing on Destiny's final score from a review perspective. IMO, I think the game should be reviewed on what you can play off he disk from day 1. Next, we'll say we can't rate it until after the 2 DLC packs come out. I think it's a cool concept and I'm not against it per se....I mean rolling out new content like the Raids keeps the excitement for the game high and frankly the more the better without paying....but lower the barrier of entry please. Why not release them with difficulty levels (Normal - Level 15 and up; Hard - Level 20 and up, Insane - Level 25 and up). Does that cheapen the experience? I really want to know what folks think about that.

Nice, how long has the raid taken you thus far?

I'm up to lvl 22 now but I'm trying to figure out if this is even worth it. I'm usually lucky if I'm able to play a video game for 5 hours a week.
