Sales Comparisons v. 1.1

Yet people buy the same crap IP's blindly year after year. I agree with you in principle, but it is sad.

Oh I get it too believe me, as a guy who was mainly a 360 gamer last gen I got bored out of my mind with MS's lack of new IP's but had they come out with some that didn't appeal to me I would have skipped them. Otherwise you are just encouraging them to keep spending dev money on games you'll never want to play. As far as people buying blindly, that is a good thing in a way simply because it's those big franchises that are bringing all the money in to keep the industry afloat.

Interesting that software sales were down almost a third from this same time last year. That's not good.

GAF is saying that Nintendo Wii U sales were about 68K. I don't know if that's up, down, or sideways.

Edit: Well, here you go (Nintendo PR): "Wii U continues to have a very strong year. Through the first 10 months of 2014, total sales of Wii U hardware and software have increased by 47 percent and 84 percent, respectively, over the same period in 2013."

It goes without saying but the Wii U needs more attention. I didn't get Bayonetta 2 yet because i have enough to play right now. I think that's the biggest problem for Nintendo. Between PS4/X1/PC, there's just more than enough gaming already. People buy the core Nintendo exclusives and forget about the rest. If Nintendo wants to change that, all they have to do is release a powerful console next time around with features on par with the competition.

Poor Wii U. At this point there is nothing they can do to right that ship, regardless of how many good games come out for it.

They obviously don't care. Low risk hardware and the exclusives sell. So they're making money. I think everyone expected the Wii U to finish third in sales once the specs were announced. Good thing they got off to a good start by launching a year early. On the other hand if they took that extra year to deliver a better overall experience, Nintendo might be doing much better. Oh well, they beat to their own drum and that's why i love them.

They did that with the GC and ended up in 3rd place.

They should have definitely waited at least a year as they had no software ready to go for at least that long. They are still painfully slow in releasing anything significant. It's a crime that we will likely not see a true Zelda or Metroid release until 3-4 years into a Nintendo consoles life, and I'm being optimistic.

The GameCube was a good effort but going up against the Dreamcast, PS2, and then the Xbox? After the dominance of the PS1? They really had no chance. The GC had no online to speak of, PS2 was decent and Xbox Live was just getting going. Nintendo has never given a full effort with a console release, in regards to what gamers expect from a console.

Powerful hardware, online that doesn't suck, a traditional controller, and they'd be good to go. An achievement/trophy system wouldn't hurt either. I know they're pointless in the end but i know plenty of people that don't care for the Wii U just because there's no feature like that. They had their chance with the Wii U and skimped on the power and went with another awkward controller that turned people off.

GAF leakers seem to be MIA, so we may have to wait a while for PS4 and X1 numbers.

Maybe everyone is on their mobile games. I have been talking the train a lot lately while I am holiday now in Singapore, & just about everyone is on their phone, either facebooking, or playing some games. On the local papers, I read sales of consoles & games are down by significant number due to mobile games.

Since I live in small town & drive, mobile games isn't as appealing to me, but in major cities, where you spend a great deal of time on train/bus/tram, I can see why mobile games are much more appealing.

When it comes to violence that's mostly true, for some reason parents get more upset about something sexual than little johnny killing people.
Worst thing I've seen was a mom buying GTA 4 for her son who if I had to guess was ten years old.

That could be one factor, especially in Singapore.

Another factor might be the increased expenditure on hardware. I noticed that hardware sales were up 59% compared to October of last year. That makes sense, since the PS4 and the Xbox One were not yet released. Now they are. Maybe this October, gamers spent a lot more of their money on consoles than they did in Oct. 2013, and so they had less money to spend on games.

Those are the same types of parents that will later complain and say "well I didn't know, they shouldn't make this for kids" when they are informed at the counter that the game is rated M (at least at gamestop) and have the reasons for the M rating that are on the box pointed out to them.

Maybe they need a new explanation method. Perhaps they should pull out an M16, shove it in the parents face, rob them, and then say, "That is GTA mo-fooker."

PS4 Tops Xbox One in October NPD, NBA 2K15 and Smash Bros. are Top Games

Once again, the PlayStation 4 is the number one selling console in the US. NPD data for November 2014 arrived today, and Sony confirmed the position of its console via Twitter.

In a press release, the NPD Group's Liam Callahan writes that "Overall sales across hardware, new physical software, and accessories were essentially flat in October 2014 compared to October 2013." Continued strong performance on the console and accessory front offset the lower sales of software last month.

The Xbox One and PS4 have both been out for a year now, and the consoles are already performing better than the PS3 and Xbox 360 when compared to the same timeframe. "These consoles have had a great start," writes Callahan, "as cumulative sales are currently over 70 percent higher than the combined first year totals of Xbox 360 and PS3.”

Here are the top 10 games in physical hardware sales from the NPD:
  1. NBA 2K15 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3, PC)
  2. Super Smash Bros. (3DS)
  3. The Evil Within (PS4, XBO, PS3, 360, PC)
  4. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (360, PS3, PC)
  5. Destiny (360, XBO, PS4, PS3)
  6. Skylanders Trap Team (360, Wii, NWU, PS3, XBO, PS4, 3DS, MOB)
  7. FIFA 15 (PS4, 360, PS3, XBO, Wii, PSV, 3DS)
  8. Madden NFL 15 (360, PS4, PS3, XBO)
  9. Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor (PS4, XBO, PC)
  10. Minecraft (360, PS3, PS4)
Callahan also notes that Sunset Overdrive was number nine in the sales charts "when sorting on SKU rather than by title." Also, The Evil Within from horror director Shinji Mikami was "the highest-selling first month of sales for new IP in the Survival Horror genre."

While there aren't many surprises from October, expect things in November to be a lot more competitive. Microsoft had a $50 price drop, and the company has already announced that, for the past two weeks, they've outsold the PS4 in the US.

Maybe we should get the lunatics working on taking the ak47s out of the kids hands in the Middle East 1st?

Console sale wise? Both doing great, and congrats to Sony! Keep MS on their toes, it makes Phil work harder. Just don't get complacent, I want your amazing exclusives.
What hits me though is SO, Forza, and Bayonnetta. Come on people! Bayonnetta 2 is probably my favorite action game of the past few years! I buy all digital, hopefully a good portion did too. These games deserve to be played!

I remember playing games like Tenchu or GTA 2 when I was young by getting a note from my mom that I was allowed to rent an M rated game. I would have been about 13 at the time and I turned out alright I think.
