Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Witness. Though I think it's quite honestly going to split the difference between the 2 of you and land closer to an 86 -87.

Yeet. Yeet.

Which version are we using? I suggest whatever one has the most critic reviews to get the settled score?
Doesn't matter to me. You go ahead a pick one. I won't care one way or another if I lose or win anyway.

Ah yes, words uttered by many a loser.

Let's go with whatever version has the most reviews.

Hope you like the GOAT.

How about you blow me....

I don't like that they're requiring a Season Pass purchase to get access to challenge tombs and "multiple narrative side-missions." I feel like they're splitting off side missions just to get me to buy a Season Pass.

You'd think a season pass for side missions would cause some issues, I can see story expansions etc but some side missions? Maybe they are defining it differently than it is in other games?

The sad truth is, expansion used to be almost as long as the main games, back in the 90s, like Warcraft II Beyond the dark portal & Diablo II Lord of Destruction.

Nowadays, they are more & more cut contents & even the worst cash grabs, like skins & weapons, that are disproportional to the price they charged. An exception is CDProjekt RED WItcher 3 expansions.

Tomb raider games (at least rise) are middle of the park, I have the season pass, not because I think its high value, but because I am a big Tomb raider fan, but they are half decent in terms of price vs content.

Even in the early 2000's we got expansions that would be considered all new games. Like Ghost Recon Island Thunder, Desert Siege, Battlefield 2 with the special forces expansion, etc. This is really not the golden age of games for consumers. Getting MUCH less for your money nowadays.

Shirley, you can't be serious.

I started RotR back up yesterday and found that I could get into it. I'd had trouble getting into it before, despite two attempts, but I think I've gotten to the point in the game where things are picking up. Also, I've shifted my mindset, so that I'm playing no attention to the story (which seems very routine to me), not expecting to care about Lara or any of the characters, not worrying about relics or lore or anything like that, and just playing for the sake of the action. It's more enjoyable that way.

Yeah, once you stop going for achievements and stuff like that, gaming becomes much more fun.

Oh, I've never been interested in achievements. I don't really understand the point.

I like a good story and good characters, though, and if those aren't clicking for me, it can get in my way of enjoying the game. Once I learned to stop caring about the story and the characters in RotR and just play for the shoot/bang action, things got better.

I also learned to stop caring about the icon-filled map. I'm just focusing on the main mission. I don't even do the challenge tombs, although I understand those are supposed to be fun. I may come back for them later, but I want the main mission to keep progressing for now.

I also felt burned out on the whole open-world crafting and collecting thing. I've done that a lot, and after a while, it feels like, "Eh, here we go again." It can feel tedious, especially at the start. I got over that, though.

Oh God I hate trophies and achievement stuff and it's not just because I suck and can't get them.

I think I would have liked it more had I not enjoyed the previous game so much, that one was my first ever TR game and I think it was just an overall better experience than Rise. Rise isn't a bad game at all it's just not anywhere near as enjoyable as the previous game IMO, I played through the previous one like 3 times so clearly I hold it in very high regard lol.

My thoughts exactly. Loved the first so much the sequel just couldn’t live up to that

Yeah, I played that through twice myself. Good game. RotR just seems like a standard TR game to me, nothing really unique about it. The action is fun, though.

I found Rise of the Tomb Raider to be the best. It was and is the only game that made me want to 100% complete everything and I did. The gameplay was deeper, the map was bigger, the pseudo RPG elements were deeper, the graphics are among the best. It actually had puzzle tombs this time. It was my GOTY. Shadow is looking to improve even more on everyone of those areas.
