Official Thread Star Wars Battlefront 2

Do you get any cards, credits, or anything for multiplayer for completing the campaign?

Yeah you get rewards etc, I had about 7 crates to unlock after I finished it last night. Be careful when you are unlocking them though, for some reason it auto selected one of the "purchase crate" things instead of open crates and I ended up using credits to buy a crate I didn't want because I wasn't paying attention lol.

Doesn’t really bother me that much as the EA access itself is kinda a pay to win thing.

Graphics on the game are unbelievable and the space fighting is much improved from last game.

Love it

When you have a hobby and the industry is making bad decisions at your expense, it's okay to get bent out of shape.

The realism of our hobby. Games are expensive, particularly if they're badly managed and miss deadlines. Either its Battlefront 2 or we see more Vicerals and IPs on indefinite retirement like Deus Ex and Mass Effect.

I honestly feel the real problem is how do you make the loot crates just skins or other things when it’s Star Wars.... can’t have a purple Tie fighter and s***.

I might be naive but I don’t care about this stuff nearly as much as some people.

My only gripe with pay to win loot crates is the early skew to MP. I have no problem losing to someone that's better than me in MP, hell my old man ass does all the time. It's when it happens day one outta the gate, when someone just opens their wallet and unlocks everything, especially stuff you have no counter for. That's nothing but frustration.

Game needs a delay if it's to appease the belligerents. There's no way the progression system as it is now will bring back the people it scared off. Gotta tear it all down.
Hell, even I cancelled my pre order (amazon gives a discount I was thinking frugally damnit) because of all this.

Of course, the chances of the game actually getting delayed to gut the lootbox progression are smaller than bellybamas sense of shame.
Haven't bought a new game in months and these greedy morons are just prolonging my boredom. This ain't any fun you buttholes.

It looks so good but i can't allow myself to get it ;_;

We'll see if these cards are game breaking or not. I mean, this is Battlefront. Shoot people in the face with a laser gun. I don't like pay to win at all, but I'm going to play it and see if it really matters. They already took the high level cards out of it.

If anything it feels like it is going to come down to RNG than anything else unless you want to pay.

Did you read how you need multiple versions of star cards ? How there are 7 kinda of currency? Seriously. It’s purely designed to get people to pay for packs. It’s awful.

There was nothing in the article that was new. It was actually clearly written before any of the changes, including the one to star cards (there's an update at the end). They purposely leave dated info in there. Usually I love Ars Technica but clearly they were writing this over time.

This is another one of those "me too!" reaction articles. They are now popping up all over.

How long does it take to reasonably unlock something? 5 hours? 50 hours? Nobody has provided that information. How much of a competitive advantage does it offer? Nobody has that info either. How many loot boxes can one reasonably earn in a day? Anyone?

Also it was comical how they said that this is the first game ever to have a progression system where good stuff is hidden behind a grind. I mean come on... there's stuff in the Battlefield games that is way better and takes tons of hours to unlock (looking at you, Hellregel).

Of course they are trying to sell loot boxes. Of course spending money will shorten the progression. Whether any of this is game breaking or not is still not known.

I put a lot of time into this last night, primarily the "big team battle" objective mode, (whatever it's called in this). I have mixed feelings at the moment. I experienced a surprising amount of bugs / errors. A match loaded where I couldn't see my character or any other characters. Every time I backed out to the main menu I lose connection to the EA servers. Several match making searches resulted in the game dumping me to the main menu where I'm now unable to search for new games and have to restart the entire game. Hopefully we'll get a patch before the official launch this weekend.

Those issues aside, I had quite a bit of fun. Some of the maps are incredible. I love Tattooine, Kamino, Hoth, the Death Star, and Star Killer Base. Feels like there are more maps for these bigger modes at launch than we even had after all the DLC launched on the original title. I really like that. Graphics are great as man have mentioned. I was killed numerous times because I was looking at something cool or being wowed by some textures or "easter egg" type things on maps.

Granted I have the "deluxe" version that came with 1 star card maxed out upgrade and a weapon unlock per class, but I didn't feel like the progression system was as slow as some have made it to be. You can make / build your own cards fairly easily, and there are tons of challenges that are easy to unlock by putting time into the way you want to play, etc. Do I like this system? Not really. It's very similar to the upgrade process in Gears 4 Horde mode, which I also didn't care for, but sees much faster and easier to unlock things you want.

Gameplay wise, I feel certain classes are far better than others. There was a daily challenge for the Heavy class, so I put a bunch of time into that class when I started and felt like I was terrible. After I finally completed the challenge, I tried the other 3 classes and performed better with all of them. It may just be my personal play style, but I feel Assault and Specialist are the two classes that are easiest to get kills with. They also seemed to be the two classes I was killed by the most.

Not sure if I like the changes they made to starfighters from the last game, They tried to add some skill to the controls, to me it just seems far less enjoyable. I hopped into a space battle match, and watched sooooooo many people crash into debris or other things. Seems like everyone was having more difficulty flying them. That said, I saw some fantastic people using them racking up an insane amount of kills, so maybe I just need more time.

I don't care for EA's tiered launch schedule, which is ironic since I bought the deluxe edition so I could play earlier. I noticed several people out there who must have had EA Access that essentially had 3 full maxed sets of cards already. I think that's going to frustrate a lot of people jumping in this weekend. I also didn't play the beta, so I assume my lack of familiarity with the maps and game didn't help either. For a multiplayer game though, it really seems to put some awkward disadvantages out there for a game's launch. That said, I got the hang of it eventually and found classes and setups I liked.

Overall, I'm enjoying it and glad I bought it. I definitely didn't enjoy it as much as I did the last game on my initial hands on, but I'm looking forward to sinking some more time into it and trying more modes and the campaign.

There is a grand total of 324 cards. Upgrading these will require a total of 155,520 crafting parts. This requires opening a grand total of 3,111 loot crates which will require 4,528 hours of gameplay.

The 600 credits received from a hero crate is worth 27% the cost of a hero crate. This is equivalent to 30 crystals. To account for this, I reduced the cost of a hero crate from 110 crystals to 80 crystals. 12,000 crystals can be bought for $100.

Opening the required 3,111 loot crates requires 248,880 crystals. If you only purchase $100 crystal packs, this will cost $2,100.

Who would have thought people on the intenet would pretend to have inside information about the games industry?

The original link for whoever calculated those numbers is dead. The resetera link works, but the post they linked is gone. I'd love to know how they got to these numbers, especially since luck factors into it so the exact time shouldn't be fixed.

The total hours to unlock everything is pointless. What is the time to unlock everything in a Battlefield game? Way more than the total hours I've ever put in. It is assumed you'll never have everything for every class.

Nobody has answered my very simple questions:
-How significantly do cards impact gameplay? In a game like COD every minor advantage is huge. In this game? At least based on the first one I'm not too worried. I could do just fine with the default guns.
-How many crates do you earn playing? From challenges? From daily rewards?

I'm not saying these numbers are wrong, but as always EA should just tell it themselves. There's an AMA with them today but I'm sure it will turn into a sh**show because rage is more fun than getting actual info.

I don’t really care personally. I thought you might find it interesting.

The AMA could have some good questions for them.

It's the main article on the main page:

http://www.swtorstrategies.com/

but it seems that site is having server issues so you can't dig into the article, or any other article for that matter at the moment. Probably because of traffic from Resetera or something.

Yep, I'd very much like to see the original post. Unfortunately either the site crashed or something else.

Ultimately transparency is always the best policy, but it seems game companies think being vague will work out well for them :)

To be honest I'm sure there's a progression that I'll never, ever max out. As long as I can run around and shoot people in the face with a laser gun, I'm good. Who knows, in a week I could be angry about this. I'm playing the game starting tonight so we'll see. All I know is that every game I play has lootboxes and none of them have bothered me yet.

If anything, they give me more fun playing by earning them for free. That's kind of the thing that gets ignored along with not having to buy DLC maps.
