So what do they do if the games fail to find an audience PS/Switch?
Stadia?

I don't think those games need an audience on PS/Switch. At least not Sea of Thieves nor Grounded. Both have 10s of millions of players. Pentiment might not be a hot seller because that is a very niche game.

Yeah but do Xbox turn round to those at MS and say let's not waste money/resources on porting other games or then feel pressured into trying some of the bigger IPs they own.

They are all going anyway. Within a year they will announce more including 1 or 2 big IPs.

It's interesting you know. I'm sure they will survive but as they keep porting out their exclusives, do they then become a glorified Ubisoft basically becoming a major third party publisher ? Crazy how far we have come now since the original rumour last year. Maybe that is what Xbox wants to become. Just generating revenue/profit by releasing on as many platforms as possible. Phil did say he wanted to keep some exclusives so we will see.

So like Sony as well with their continued focus on porting and multiplatform. It seems the profits are not there to keep them behind the exclusive hardware. It sounds like the future for PS and Xbox though.

We will see if it gets there for Sony to the same extent but I do see live service games being put on as many platforms as possible. For now, Xbox is doing its own thing maybe this has been Phil's plan all along.

Of course it has, which is why he has been doing it all along. Sony is almost there to the same extent and is doing so more than ever and faster than ever. And now they announced their commitment publicly, it's full steam ahead for them.

MS has been doing this for ages, for all platforms.

They have to know these games aren't going to make a huge splash, two of them are small games and two are older service based games. I have no doubt that there will be more games in the future but clearly not everything. Phil keeps talking about having to keep the business healthy and bring in more players etc so he's clearly talking about more of this in the future and I think logically that would mean them doing it with games that had more potential to bring in money than the 4 titles they are currently going to release.

Existing xbox tentpole games like Halo, Fable, Gears and Forza.

They’re probably the biggest third party with games on switch and PlayStation with just two games, Minecraft and COD

I’m sure this is largely because of GP, but you can’t maximize monetization without getting traffic. I’m sure the Sony CFO is looking at data like this as rationale to go multiplat, go to PSPlus more often, or some combo.

Probably not more often but sooner

No it isn't.

2 niche games that aren't selling any more on Xbox and 2 online games fits exactly into the strategy shown in the files.

I might not agree with it(if anything they could have just committed to keeping recently acquired multiplatform games multiplatform.) Rather than releasing new Xbox IPs but it's not changed.

Is this in the files with Nadella saying exclusives are fundamental to adoption and how they being a low share player they can't change that. Lol.

Now here we are. Xbox giving exclusives away with no reciprocation from Sony or Nintendo.

Tell me? Why do this if your intent isn't going full multiplatform? They have numerous multiplatform games under their umbrella along with all the data. So they know how games perform on this stage. Yet we are supposed to believe this trial nonsense.lol.

All they are doing is easing Xbox consumers into a 3rd party reality to minimise fallout and backlash, and it is working. Just look at all the folk here falling for it, defending it. Lol. I wonder what the excuse will be when they announce more and bigger IPs.

If that was the case you don't also confirm new console details coming at the end of the year.

Yes you do. Why? Because they are, supposedly, uncoupling their hardware from Playstation and hoping, just like a few here stated, that the digital library investment ( Xbox's own excuse to losing the "console War") is enough to retain their user base, at least most of it. That means more service money, 3rd party sales money, and peripherals money, all of which are big earners.

The rumor is the next Xbox console is a PC hybrid in the sense that you can access Steam, Xbox, etc. all in one console. If Playstation goes to PC day and date then by default it also goes to Xbox. It's basically an Xbox/Steam Machine. Who knows if there is any truth to it.

As cool as that sounds I feel like it won’t happen, they’d have a competing store, like if GamePass were a thing on other platforms they’d be competing against their respective services like ps+ and Nintendo Online. It’s make more sense for the portable device, but who knows, maybe you’d have to do it through the dev mode, so if something were to go wrong it’d be on you instead.

Might be nice for Steam user who would want to play on the TV. Could work out quite well. I'd be interested.
