He doesn't spawn all the time. He also will not spawn if you didn't kill the Bell Keeper phantom (you can tell if you did as there will be no smoke on the far end exit). To help with more frequent Spawns, buy the delicate string ring from Tichy Gren in Undead Purgatory.

Yeah, he's a bastard to get to spawn and then maybe only drops an item once every 20 times you kill him.

I finally beat that Old Iron King in Iron Keep. So that is another area fully done and dusted. Now down the Gutter and beyond I go:)
 
Dark Souls is the June game for Games with Gold on X360. Hell yeah!

The scary part for me is I'm sitting on around 450,000 souls - my goal is to save them for cracked blue eye orbs in new game plus, but it certainly has kept things exciting every time I get close to death.

For 360, yeah. You said X1. Nice to see Games for Gold announced for X1 though. Crap games, but still nice.
 
Haha, I've been helping people from being ganked and then killing the gargoyles for so long that I regularly have that many souls on me at all times. I should probably go level again but I am afraid to overlevel and not get summoned. Nothing feels better than pulling out my avelyn as a grey spirit is trying to escape up the ladder to the bell and finishing him off. Hate bell bros. lol

I read that people have success by sitting and standing at the bonfire several times before making the climb. He supposedly spawns after many bonfire rests.
 
Got all but one piece of the mad warrior set now. I have the helmet though and that's the best part. Took a break from trying to get the last piece and took on the smelter demon. He wasn't to bad. Got him on my third attempt.

I think that may be more of a placebo thing. As far as I can tell his spawns are totally random and resting at bonfires makes little difference to the rate of his spawns.

It's ok. There are other swords which are far better and easier to get. You need to land about 4 solid hits with it for the bleed damage to kick in. I haven't tried it a huge amount though.

They are completely random from what I can tell. I had him spawn three times in a row more than once and not drop anything. Last night I got the sword on the 6th time I killed him, then I killed 20 more times and got nothing. I tried one more time and he spawned and dropped the sword. I refreshed and went up again, the spawned and dropped the armor. I tried a about 20 minutes more and he never spawned once. I only have the sleeves left to get.

I abandoned such tasks as soon as I found my Smeltor Demon Armour. I'll go back and do some more here and there, but I am to focused on finishing the game. Then I can make a new Sorcerer of dark arts character :)

I'll finish the game eventually. Things like this don't bother with Dark Souls. it's all part of the game. Plus the mad warrior helmet is seriously dope. That and the dark armor set have two of the best helmets.
Where do I buy the Smelter Demon armor? I kicked his ass something fierce. He didn't land one hit on me the entire fight. I only took damage from the fire getting in to hit him.

Yeah, the helmet is awesome. It is the only bit I really want.

The armourer in Majula sells the Smeltor Demon armour. It costs around 35,000 souls.

I think I have about 17k at the moment. A quick grind around the Iron Keep will get me enough.
