The Dark Souls Thread! v2.0

Well I've already gotten the Ashen Mist Heart. Now I'm trying to get through the memories. Which are pretty damn difficult.

Whay

What do you need the old souls for ?

Not sure exactly...but I know they allow you access to some where. Collecting the 4 old souls is pretty much the point of the game, or at least the early game.

You need the four old souls to enter the Shrine of Winter which leads to Drangleic Castle.

But I'm sure you can trade them or consume them and still enter the Shrine.

This is dark souls. No way would I take that for granted. Could be 40 hours wasted :surprise::surprise:

LOL I know what you mean but that would be game breaking.

Ah yeah. If you earn one million soul memory you can enter the shrine. Or collect four old souls.
Good to know. My soul memory is 1.7 million at the moment and I'm still only about three quarters of the way through the other areas. lol

It's ok. There are other swords which are far better and easier to get. You need to land about 4 solid hits with it for the bleed damage to kick in. I haven't tried it a huge amount though.
I am not Into heavy weapons and it seems lighter then the ultra great swords.
I want a sword like the grave lord or the queenlag fire sword.

I didn't notice the wait weight. I use halberds and spears a lot and also dual weild so I'm heavyish on weapons

King Vendrick is easy to dodge but one wrong move and I'm dead. He's the first boss that can kill me in one hit. I'm a caster but I'm going melee on him. Spells aren't working here.

Be sure once you beat him to head back to the Shrine of Amana for his soul and his armor. Its near the second bonfire in an area where a walkway is sitting just below the water. It'll be to the left from the bonfire. The door will only open after Vendrick has been defeated. I think you also may need to be human, but I can't remember.

Thank you, good man. Got the specs on the armor?
Im not quite sure on the specs of the armor. Its a cool looking getup though. You can use his soul to create a really good great sword, or a decent shield. I recommend the great sword personally, but only if your character is high in STR.

Which she is not. See that's the sad thing about being a caster. There are literally no staves or chimes to trade for boss souls. There are SPELLS but no catalysts. Tis a shame, really.

Well, if you're a caster with high faith, go after the Dragon Chime. Its absolutely awesome, and the best chime in the game. You have to beat the optional Dark Lurker boss by doing the three covenant quest Dark Diver Grandal gives you, but good Lord is it worth it. Just horde all your twinkling titanite to upgrade it.

I don't think I can do the Grendal quests. I set him free so now I'm left with his split personality and all he says is I set him free.

I looked up the Ruler's Sword. Looks like I could easily use it with my low STR mad DEX but its damage is based on number of souls held. If you have fewer than 300k souls, you receive a damage penalty. Who the fack carries that many souls?

Um, you're thinking of the guy in Aldias Keep I believe. Dark Diver Grandal is the old man you find in The Shaded Ruins, Drangleic Castle, and Black Gulch. At each location you have to offer up a human effigy, which makes him open a portal into a cavern. You have to use a torch to light three large fires, and at the end of the third area, you'll fall into a hole and right into a fight with the dark lurker.

Oh my bad. I dropped into one of those portals once. Got my ass beaten, blended, and handed back to me as a fresh bloody smoothie. Screw those places. If I make it to the Dark Lurker, do those phantoms respawn?

I am still playing Demon's Souls and I finally beat Flamelurker tonight with a Long Sword & the Purple Flame Shield.

It was an epic battle. He might be my favorite boss in the Souls series so far.

Any decent Armour in this game that has good poison elemental protection ?

The tower shield is great for the gutter. Not sure about armor. You could buy the pison ring from the merchant in the iron keep.

I have the knights great shield ( 85% reduction), and I have that Poison Bite ring too. However, I still get poisoned quickly and easily. I was hoping there might be a decent armour set, like the Smeltor demons armour is great for Fire resistance.

Another question, how long do consumables last ? Like the Orange Burr for fire resistance..etc

Yeah, they do respawn. One of the phantoms in one of the caverns actually appears to be Havel himself. If you're a caster though, the dark lurker really isnt to0 tough. I was able to beat him before he split in two, which is the trick, because once he does that, he's real tough to deal with. The dragon chime is worth the trouble though, particularly if you're taking your caster into NG+ and beyond. I felt like such a beast with that thing once I got it.

I didn't come across anything good but I didn't look too hard either. The shield did me for the most part. Just walk around with it raised all the time. Those consumables dont last very long. Like a minute or two I think.

The Moon Butterfly armor is the best poison res armor in the game, but it's pretty weak against everything else. You can get the armor once you've spent 16,000 souls in Maughlins shop in Majula. You can get the whole set in one play through if you burn two ascetics in Majula's bonfire. Here's a breakdown.

Oh, and DONT! wear it around NPC's. It will poison them and cause them to aggro.
