I know football players taking knees is what is occupying everyone's attention, but have we talked about Trump and North Korea?

"Washington (CNN)US President Donald Trump issued a familiar warning to North Korea on Tuesday, saying the US is prepared to use "devastating" military action if necessary -- as two defense officials tell CNN that the rogue nation has moved a small number of fighter jets, external fuel tanks and air-to-air missiles to a base on its eastern coast to boost military readiness."

This is after saying N. Korea will be met with "fire and fury." And comments about them "not being around much longer." And the insults ("little Rocket Man," etc). What did he say at the UN? That N. Korea would be "utterly destroyed."

I listened to a bit of NPR tonight, and they had a panel of high-ranking people talking about how badly things have escalated over the past week, and devastating it would be if we went to war with N. Korea. One general said the likelihood of "exchange of ordinance" was "approaching 50/50." N. Korea had said they would shoot down US bombers, even if they weren't even in their air space. Tensions are "higher than they've ever been."

I'm worried this guy is going to get us into a war.

The Lamps are Going Out in Asia

"The substance of Trump’s speech [to the UN] — including threats to both North Korea and the Iran deal—may have closed any remaining doors to a diplomatic resolution to this crisis surrounding North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs. Moreover, Trump’s speech and the North Korean reaction seem to have set us on a path that could very well end in a major war in Asia. The escalating threats and the closing off of diplomatic options by both sides makes it now more likely than ever that President Trump will have to make good on his threat to “utterly destroy” a nation of 25 million people. The strategic consequences of carrying out this threat, even if successful, will be felt for the remainder of this century, largely to the detriment of the United States and the Western World."

[....]

"In other words, in a nuclearized environment in which both North Korea and the US have sound military reasons to want to attack first, Trump informed the North Koreans that he will not be bound by a diplomatic agreement and his military intent is the extinction of the DPRK."

[....]

"It is unlikely a US conventional strike could totally eliminate North Korea’s nuclear capabilities and it almost certainly could not eliminate the threat to the “hostages” in Seoul. But a thorough and well-planned nuclear strike drawing on US strategic forces might well successfully disarm the DPRK and paralyze its command and control.[2] A prudent North Korean commander cannot exclude such a possibility and has to understand his vast numerical and technological disadvantage. His only hope for pursuing his nuclear war fighting strategy is to attack first while he has the assets and command and control capabilities to act. This is publicly stated North Korean nuclear doctrine.

"What all this means is that if a mistake, miscalculation or incident sparks war, it is likely to go nuclear very fast."

[....]

"The broad sweep of US and North Korean policy make any non-military outcome to this crisis less and less likely. [....] Any error or misstep in this highly unstable strategic environment could ignite a nuclear first strike."

We saw him here between the election and inauguration. It was pretty outstanding then. I can only imagine what it'll be like in a year or two, if dissent is still allowed at least.

The truly horrifying thing is that not only do I agree with you, but I think Trump's greatest regret about it when it's done will be that he didn't manage to make it until late 2019, so that he could go into a re-election campaign in the early stages of wartime.

I can just see the tweet now:

"North Korea, you're fired!! #nuclearwinter"

He is a f***ing wreckless baboon who is trying his hardest to distract in every way, shape, and form, away from himself, his s*** family, and those that work/ed for him. Because he's gotten away with name calling his entire life, he thinks doing so to other people in power will reap the same results.

We need him gone. He needs to be gone. I don't care how. He's a threat to every facet of our country. He offers nothing to our country except his racist base. he's a despicable person and his family is just as s***ty as he is. Everybody that has sold their soul to him is in the same boat. f*** them all. They're all destroying our country.

He is absolutely looking for something to deflect from his, his family, and his appointees obvious criminal activities. That is the only thing he is good at, deflection.

Getting into a war of words with North Korea is beyond stupid. He's going to talk himself into a corner and something terrible is going to happen and people are going to die.

I sincerely hope someone in the secret service has a plan to prevent him from launching any nukes.

Funny how every President before from either party has always managed to deal with North Korea.

In an act that could only be looked as a big "F*ck you, Puerto Rico!" The Trump Administration denies Congress' request to ease shipping restrictions for cheaper fuel and supplies from foreign neighbors that can arrive sooner.

Yes. NK has been an issue, but past presidents have been able to not escalate the situation. He's a child. Like you, I hope there are safeguards preventing this imbecile from doing something stupid.

Yeah, that strategy of bravado and insults may work in (some) business contexts, but it is not going to work on the international stage, especially when the other guy is also a "f**cking wreckless baboon." What you have now is two dogmatic, narcissistic bullies -- neither of whom have much experience in their jobs -- playing a game of Chicken. And neither seem like the swerving type.

I sense that you have some feelings about this.

And paradoxically, he's also very good at drawing attention to himself. He seems to have an unlimited capacity for causing drama. It's just one thing after another with this guy.

The entire Russian thing was started by his bizarre statements during the campaign. He was the one out of the blue who started going off about "why shouldn't we have good relations with Putin??". He did it more than once.

Funny thing is if he never brings it up does anyone look into it? He kept bringing it up in such a bizarre way that he almost begged people to go digging.

I know this isn't the biggest issue and is more of Trump trying to distract from his already impressive list of failures but I figured I'd share it here anyway.

Yeah remember when we would only see the President during their State of the Union address? I miss those days. Lol

Jared Kushner is transgender?

http://thehill.com/business-a-lobby...er-registered-to-vote-in-new-york-as-a-female

Kushner registered in New York as a female voter

Presidential son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner is registered as a female voter in New York, according to public records.

Registration records show that when Kushner, who is married to first daughter Ivanka Trump, registered to vote in 2009, he apparently checked a box classifying his gender as a female.

Democratic opposition research group American Bridge first spotted the error, which Wired then reported first.

"Kushner can't even fill out the most basic paperwork without screwing it up, so it's a mystery why anyone thinks he's somehow going to bring peace to the Middle East," Brad Bainum, a spokesperson for the group, told Wired about the mistake. "Would anyone but the president's son-in-law still have a West Wing job after repeated disclosure errors and a botched a security clearance form?"

Well, you think Kush wears the pants in that family?

Also NY doesn't have the best voter registration. My wife and I just celebrated our 18th anniversary. She's still registered to vote under her maiden name and old address (fortunately we still live close by). She puts in the paperwork all the time and nothing changes.

For all the people that claim we just hate Trump and don't want discussion, etc... I'd love to see what anyone who votes Republican thinks of that (not just Bernie is a Communist!!!).

I get why rich people vote Republican. I kind of get why upper middle class do too. Everyone else though? It isn't about class warfare. The middle class is shrinking and that's a fact. That fact is bad for everyone long term, even the rich.

So the man who self admitted to not paying taxes for years is pushing tax reform? I guess that makes about as much sense as a draft dodger telling others how to not disrespect the military.

His tax plan is going to hit people hard that live in states with a state income tax. I may have to look at moving across state lines to a state with no income tax.

The tax proposals have nearly zero chance of passing. It would set the country so far in debt, and cuts from the most needy, and it would turn us into a 3rd world country. I mean, there's a possibility, but a very, very slime one, bigly.
