The Xbox Onesie

Let's hope crackdown 3 is a very good game because 2 was a letdown for me. Do you guys remember back in the TXB days? Infamous vs Crackdown vs Prototype threads all over the internet. Good times.

I thought Crackdown was sort of a disappointment this E3. I think a lot of people expected that, after all this time in development, with this being Scorpio's big day, Crackdown would be front and center, a real showpiece for the new system -- full of epic destruction on a huge scale, in full 4K. Instead, we saw a fairly ordinary trailer, sandwiched between some other games, without much fanfare.

I don't know. I think it left a lot of people underwhelmed, a little disappointed, and concerned about the state of the game.

You realize this is all your opinion? A well known Sony fan who'd rather die on a sword than admit something on Xbox is better than Sony machine. For example, if Crackdown does what's advertised with multi player, it'll spank the s*** out of anything on the Pro with all certainty. I am speaking technically. Can't guarantee the game play will appeal to everyone, even though it still looks very much like the Original Crackdown - which was a s*** load of fun.

Yeah of course I know it's my opinion lol. I've said many many times that the X1X is more powerful than the PS4 Pro it's not something that bothers me in the least. It's coming a year later and is more expensive so I would hope it would be more powerful otherwise there was no point in doing it in the first place.

I agree the original crackdown was a lot of fun, at the time there weren't really other games like that so it was also a bit of a novelty. I asked a guy on twitter who played it at E3 the other day what he thought and he said it was basically the same as the first one when it came to gameplay, the good and the bad. I just hope for people who buy it that the melee combat is more than just spin kicks again.

I don't know where some of you get this idea that anyone is jealous, I could buy this when it comes out if I want it and I was prepared to if the jump was big enough and if the price was right. The jump doesn't seem that significant right now but then again I don't expect devs to push the hardware for a while, they still aren't really pushing the Pro and it's been out for 7 months. I'm still very much open to buying it if and when games start showing a bigger difference and the price comes down.

I'm not expecting miracles like some others, I know 1.8TF's is only going to go so far when shooting for higher resolutions but there is still more potential there that probably won't be utilized for a while. If I were someone who only owned an Xbox One I'd be there pre ordering on day one, being that I already own a Pro though which is closer in power to the 1X than it is the base consoles. I find it hard to justify spending $500 just to get a better resolution right now, if they had exclusives that appealed to me that would make it easier to invest in one but right now I can't justify spending that money when I already have a console that will play all of the games I want at better levels than the base PS4/X1s can do.

Yeah it's kind of sad that they brought it back and after all this time in development thought it wasn't worthy of taking center stage at their show. Did you see the IGN video where the guy who played it said it looked "quite bad" and commented about how poor the textures are etc? I know cell shading helps make simpler looking games (from a tech standpoint) sort of stand out but I don't get why a console with that much memory has poor textures in a first party game. If this turns out bad it's clearly a problem with the developer, MS has given them quite a bit of time.

Okay...so to summarize.

'If you didn't like the Xb1 offerings you probably aren't going to like the X1X offerings'

Can we all move past this then. I feel like this thread is stagnating, and we are constantly getting sidetracked. We get it. Lets actually start talking about the GAMES that were shown and keep the convo less on 'Well I'm not buying it for "X" reason'.

Moving on..

Does anybody remember the name of that pixel art game that was shown? It looked like a Noir game and it was awesome for the brief amount of time I saw it.

I had to show hidden content to see why you posted this and totally agree. I'm not sure what's funnier, the quote or the gif.

The good thing is that the game seems to at least be fun.

I wish they would have went more for a more infamous last light direction with the art. Stylized but also detailed.

They showed the single player this go 'round. Theres plenty of videos out now. They look really good. People reacted to quickly to this year's E3, shouting about how MS conference wasn't very good. Honestly, it took me a couple of days to take it in and process. In hindsight, it was a great showing. This is without Halo and Gears. Crackdown looked epic to me. MP will be groundbreaking.

Man I want to see more of those ID xbox games, that made the show to me other than X being shown.

If it looks impressive in other videos, that's good. I'm just surprised that MS didn't showcase it more during the conference.

Funny I just bought Saints Row Re-Elected on PSN on sale for $6.99 and with the powers they've added like the super jumping and running around like the flash it kind of scratches that crackdown itch. The last SR I played was just too silly so it soured me on the series but these additions make the game more fun to play so I'm glad I bought it, hell at that price it wasn't much off a risk lol.

I'm a PC gamer. My feelings don't get hurt over peasant squabbling. I'm simply here to keep the peace.
:txbcool:

End of the quality service announcement.

Nope. As far as I can tell it has no date at all...not even a vague year of release.

In all fairness, it's tough to make a great game. Takes a lot of talented people, a strong vision/leadership, and a long time. It's sort of like telling a songwriter, "Hey, why don't you just write a hit song?" It ain't easy.

And new I.P's are even harder. You have to create or adjust the engine, create new tools, new prototypes. I know everyone clamors for new I.P but it is incredibly hard to do. Neil Druckman said creating TLOU was the hardest thing to do. You don't know it is going to be fun to play or work well. Microsoft cancelling Scalebound and Sony cancelling Santa Monica's new I.P can attest to that. It is why I am always so impressed when Ubisoft and Sony and other companies create new I.P. RARE doing Sea of Thieves is such a deviation that it probably took a year to prototype stuff.Look at Lionhead they had to completely change their company structure and bring in a ton of people to work on Legends as it was completely different.

That Saints Row spin off Agents if Mayhem may end up being a better version of Crackdown.

Does Microsoft even have their own engines outside of Turn 10?

I don't see why they don't use Frostbite or something to have a base for great looking games.

That is why you have to invest. It being hard or not is quite frankly irrelevant. New IPs are a fundamental requirement of gaming. Every single long running franchise was a new IP at some point. Remdmber when MS invested in first party? We got loads of games new IPs like Halo, Forza, PGR, etc...even their 3rd party colaborations often didn't end up as one game only deals.

It may be hard but microsoft seem to be the only ones not really trying anymore. Sony has put alot of new IPs, some successful and others not so much, but atleast they trying.

Ubisoft are trying too, granted it came under the Tom Clancy umbrella but The Division isn't like anything dlse they did. You also have slmething like For Honor, which is one of, lf not my most favourite game this gen.

Even something as troubled as Destiny it manages to stand out and be different to anything else I have played on a console.

So again, as hard as it maybe it is neccessary and MS need to be doing better.

And the other thing is that it seems like MS doesn't want to pay 2nd party contracts either. I mean we finally got word of these type of contracts after E3. After they got questioned about the lack of exclusives.

It's really weird.

Yeah. That is a little funny. Especially coupled with their 'only want to show stuff gamers can play soon'excuse Spencer said that years ago and yet they announced and showed all there exclusives like Fable Legends, Scalebound, Crackdown 3 and Sea of Theives in 2014 & 2015. That is 3 years before the surviving 2 games actually release.

So yeah. It is a bit weird.

The Scalebound is odd to me because if they had announced it in 2015 people still would have been just as disappointed when they cancelled it.

Very true. Risk-taking in videogames is not like risk-taking for a writer or a band, where it's only your neck on the line. In videogames (like films), at least at the AAA level, risk-taking involves many millions of dollars and the livelihood of hundreds of people. Stakes are much higher, execution depends not just on you but on many people, and the outcome is very unpredictable.

Which is why we keep getting sequels. There is a different sort of risk there -- creative stagnation. You've got to keep mixing it up, or else it becomes formulaic.
