Ok, so I went by the truck setup this afternoon in TN. Not many people there at all so I was easily able to get about 15 Forza5 races in and 5 rounds of KI.
My impressions:
General
Whoever said the controller felt cheap or like a Fisher Price toy...didn't seem that way at all to me. Actually it felt comfortable from the start not too unlike the current one. I liked the smooth transition as your forefingers wrap around the triggers. Loved the rumble trigger effect!
The unit seemed smaller than I expected after hearing talk of how big people said it was.
Kinect was there but not hooked up. I did play around in the menus a little and did take this pic showing some of the Kinect screens:
Forza5
I am a big Forza fan, have them all and have spent countless hours playing each. Forza5 was smooth as butter, the 1080p and 60fps was certainly apparent. Handling was fantastic and the rumble triggers really added to the feel of it all.
Took way to long to get into a race, hopefully some of the pre-race pics from the showroom can be disabled in the full game.
The AI drivers were more realistic making errors on the track and also being overtly aggressive at times (effin' Rossi, he would come into me without provocation sometimes). One hopefully unfinished thing I saw was when the AI went into the sand they didn't seem to slow down much where I would get bogged down just like in past versions.
Damage was minor, mostly showed paint scrapes rather than actually body damage. Did see a headlight cover smashed once. I tried to get really crazy on a couple races and did manage once to slide over the finish line on the passenger side of the '54 Mercedes. The bumping and jostling in race did seem to have better physics reactions than prior Forza's.
The bad news was between the 15 races I did the demo locked up 3 times and they had to reset the machine (I was on 2 different machines). Happened everytime I picked the Ferrari, maybe I was doing too much buttonmashing to try to get to the race. They said these were dev kits and it was happening here and there. It seemed to be more of a demo crash than a XB1 crash as I could still hit the guide button and get back to the dashboard, but the demo wouldn't refire up from there.
Overall I want to see more but what I saw looked great and certainly nextgen but not OMG mindblowing. Wish I could have done Prague or Bathurst.
Killer Instinct
Not a fan of fighting games but this one in its next gen glory was a real head turner. Controls were responsive. This may sound funny but the backgrounds actually stood out more than the fighters themselves. Effects were neat and I liked how you transitioned from warmups to fighting. Not my cup of tea but between the 2 demos this was the one everyone there was wanting to play.
I sort of wish I hadn't gone down there as now waiting the next month is going to be even more difficult. The MS marketing person did say that there would be more units setup in Gamestops and Best Buy's around town in the next week and they would be showing off more on those units.
Final thing, standing out in front of WalMart a car of fanboys drove by yelling "PS4, PS4, PS4!!!" LOL
