I'm looking at building a new PC once Star Citizen is finished and was thinking I'd get one of these as well, but damn. Not for $600 that's for sure.

Yeah, there are even $2000 Quadro Cards listed in there (although those are most probably for developers/companies)
Every one of those cards is in the 'enthusiast' class of GPU. By enthusiast I mean from $340-$3000+ Quadro Cards. Serious horsepower is needed to run this thing well.

Import Duty is a separate thing to VAT. You pay 20 % on all taxable purchases but import duty is calculated in addition to that and paid at customs depending on the goods' value and tariff classification if imported into the UK from outside the EU.

Unless the incoterms for delivery are DDP (delivered duty paid) by the shipper (unlikely but could be built into the shipping charge) or the customs invoice is marked down to a low threshold, then the goods will be dutiable for 'home use' as a permanent import. This will usually be paid by the carrier and passed on to the recipient.

Hopefully you won't be stung for duty.

Apologies, I thought you meant VAT. I hope I don't get stung with import duty. Thanks for the heads up.

It's worth remembering it's the PC wireless controller, they're $149 on Amazon so don't sell it too cheaply

Really?!? Wow, I didn't realize they cost as much as an elite, that's crazy...but even better for defraying some cost. Will I not be able to just use my elite controller for the Oculus or do I have to have the PC version?

I have used my Xbox One pad before on my PC but I had to have my charger lead connected at all times. My PC seemed to replace the firmware because it wouldn't connect to my Xbox One then. I had to do a firmware update again so I've never used it on PC since.
The PC version is wireless, it comes with the dongle. As there will also be standing experiences too, I probably wouldn't want a wired pad.

vr dead before it even started.

LOL, hardly. It sold out in minutes and over time the price will come down for the masses just like it did with big screen TV's, blu-ray players, cell phones, and all. Plus the non-gaming aspects for commercial usage are going to be a big part of this and companies will easily buy-in as apps are made. If anything Oculus will have trouble keeping supply up with demand.

OK, I pre-ordered it. lol My delivery expectation is now May, so that gives me more time to save up when charged then. I figure I can just cancel my pre-order if the Vive is at a competitive price. Ugh, what a day. Night.

First shipment sold out.
Second shipment sold out.
They're working on May shipment now. Act surprised when it sells out in a few days.

Had a feeling it was going to be too rich for my blood. Honestly though, the price doesn't seem to surprising. I'd need to upgrade my graphics card, but that's about it. I wouldn't need a whole new computer. With that said, I never planned on being an early adopter anyway.

and? they probably had units in the thousands if that which is hardly impressive. if theyre gonna make this a commercial product a high end rig and a 600 dollar peripheral is a hard sell. tvs and cell phones cant even be compared LOL.

It's the same as a regular controller. Don't think you're looking at the right controller, Two.

Yeah the correct controller is going for $75 on amazon, at least here in the states. I'll probably keep the xb1 controller and sell my wireless 360 for cheap.

I really think they should've made 2 skus. One as a rift light version that doesn't come with the audio system, case, or controllers. Have just headset and camera for $500, wouldn't have been as much as a blowback imo.

Imagine if these $600 contraptions had Red Ring of Death? Take that Mark f***erburg.

One thing I like about the idea of oculus, is that being PC based, you could potentially find it being utilized by consoles.

I certainly won't be buying one for that price. But if I saw someone had one, I'd certainly mug them.

I wish they were more up front about the price of it though.

Obviously Sony and Oculus were standing at the urinal together, waiting to see who would unzip first.

It's not a peripheral...it's a platform. LOL yourself whiny little have-not. Let's wait and hear their numbers if they tell rather than you guessing how many were sold.

All imort duty and VAT is taken care of with the price.

Duh. The fact that people were calling them out was ridiculous. All it means is that they are paying a lot in taxes, lol. Social programs don't pay for themselves :D

Oh come on, no one pays 600 up front. It's subsidized!... and that's 39 cents PER DAY! What, you think I'm made of money!?

I ran the specs test and my laptop failed saying my Intel i7-HQ4720 CPU @ 2.60GHz doesn't meet the minimum spec of an Intel i5-4590. Can a techie explain as it would seem I have a better CPU?

Also I have a GTX960m and it says I need a GTX970...am I screwed? Seems close, is there a big difference between the 2?

It's a peripheral. It can't function on its own.
