Official Thread VR Headset

Wow, thanks for the heads up! It takes me about 10 hours to reprogram so I should have just enough time to correct it to the later time. I will surely sell you one my extras for a discount, say $999.

I hope I'm able to pick up a few to resell. I need some money to finance a decent PC build to do the thing justice. I want some 4k gaming ibn my life too.

I'm buying three of these.

Keeping one.

Making you guys pay me $1000 a piece for the other two.
OOOOOooor.... You could just send me one el freebo.... for, um .... reasons! Don't worry, the reasons are VERY compelling, I assure you!

Start the count-down to the website freezing and me getting nothing.

@KazHiraiCEO: An Oculus Rift VR headset can transport you to unbelievable fictional worlds, like a world were people will spend $599 on an Oculus Rift

I'm going to wait and see what Vive costs come February. I'd pay 700-800 for that due to coming with the controllers and room scale VR. If that is $1000+, VR is going to be an even more niche market than I thought for the first couple years.

Agree. If the Vive comes in similar or even close to the cost of OR then I will cancel my preorder for this and go with the Vive. This paves the way for PSVR to come in at $400 and look like a steal.

I never play my PS4, I'm thinking about selling it and all the games and just get the Vive. I really don't need the xbox controller, pointer and headphones/DAC that the rift comes with.

Got mine pre ordered £499, £529 with shipping. Site was playing up so by the time my order was placed my shipping date got pushed from March to April. Still incredibly hyped though.

PSVR will be the go 2 platform for VR unless they price it 2 high...
So that's the format I will support as I don't need a paperweight.
Maybe a few years down the road when the prices come down I will reconsider OR. OR will have a market though just not a casual friendly one. Vive will be doa imo unless they can make the price and requirements low.

Customs most likely will slap duty/VAT on that, assuming its shipping from the US.

Day one pre orders sold out in 14 minutes, people who paid after 50 minutes don't ship until May. They're selling like hotcakes.

Most new items sell out.
Steam Controller,XBO Elite etc.
I am guessing a very limited amount(niche) were sold.
I do think there will be a market(niche) and with FB being the parent company it will be around for a long time.

VAT was included in the price.

I've exported Oculus Rift Dev Kits from the UK on this trade tariff - https://www.gov.uk/trade-tariff/commodities/8528593900 - which is a duty free tariff on import.

However, it all depends on what tariff the freight carrier declares on import.

Fingers crossed it is that one, but don't be surprised if you get a duty charge on delivery. Worst case would be 14% which is what most LCD framed panels come in at, but I think that would be harsh and a misclassification of a VR set.

I'm glad it is selling well. Hopefully that keeps up and they reduce price once costs go down. I've decided I will be pulling trigger on Vive if it is below 1000. I don't need the advanced audio in rift as my current setup is better, also don't need xb1 controller as I have my 360 one. So rift may not make the most sense, FOR ME. Between the delay of the touch controllers and the price of the just the headset I am going to look in a different direction.

Yeah, I certainly didn't need another Xbox controller, that will go up on ebay immediately so I can recover $50 of the cost...or maybe I will put the whole unit up on ebay seeing there is going to be a sellout for at least 3 months. I expect I will get $750 out of my order.

Thanks for the info but I paid % 20 VAT on top. That's why a $599 hmd cost £499. The VAT was included.

It's worth remembering it's the PC wireless controller, they're $149 on Amazon so don't sell it too cheaply

Edit: I'm stupid, it's $75, I must have been looking at the Elite controller.

Import Duty is a separate thing to VAT. You pay 20 % on all taxable purchases but import duty is calculated in addition to that and paid at customs depending on the goods' value and tariff classification if imported into the UK from outside the EU.

Unless the incoterms for delivery are DDP (delivered duty paid) by the shipper (unlikely but could be built into the shipping charge) or the customs invoice is marked down to a low threshold, then the goods will be dutiable for 'home use' as a permanent import. This will usually be paid by the carrier and passed on to the recipient.

Hopefully you won't be stung for duty.

I have more than enough horsepower in my PC to run this thing, but paying $600 for it is too steep. When you factor in the price of having a PC capable of running VR well you are easily looking at $1700+.

This thing costs more than some versions of the GTX 980ti. If they can't cut prices soon it will be relegated to a niche market.
