Official Thread VR Headset

I still have not gotten tracking to work. Has anyone else had trouble with this? Does anyone know any solutions? Tracking works just fine in the config demo, so I know it can work when it wants.

First look at 'Oculus Cinema' : 1st party movie app for VR

That looks pretty cool. Watching movies on the rift is fun, and it's one of the main reasons I got one. I'm sure it'll be a fine replacement for physical projection screens when they increase the resolution.

What I really want is the ability to play dvds or blu-ray from the disc. I got VR player to play a dvd but I had a heck of a time getting past the menu. I still prefer LiveViewRift, though Riftmax Theater was pretty cool too.

I'm still holding off on watching anymore movies on mine until I get the head tracking sorted. I guess I'll have to create a support ticket and see if they know what's up.

im buying a new pc next year and I am not looking forward to this virtual reality gaming stuff to be honest.

Look forward to hearing more in the coming weeks. I'm keen to see their improved input whatever that may be.

OOOooh s***! Phil Spencer just came on stage to talk MS and Oculus and windows 10. The Rift will come with and X1 controller, PC adapter, and will work natively with Windows 10! Nice!

Sweet. You can stream from X1 to PC, to the Oculus :D Play your games on a 30 ft TV baby!

I thought that was a bit gimmicky..,like, yo dawg...i heard you like to play games in a room on a tv, so now in VR, you can play a game in yo room while you game in yo room. :p

The best thing to come of this is the half moon prototype. Which looks really cool. Wireless tracking with buttons, stick and triggers. Also can detect hand gestures like giving thumbs up or flippin the bird.

For me this event was all about input. I was disappointed at first when they showed the Xbox pad but i was delighted when they showed Touch. They look light and ergonomic and i like the design.
I really hope people get hands on with those during E3, i suspect they will stack up pretty well against the Vive controllers.
I would prefer they come shipped with every Rift instead of the Xbox pad though but it's not a deal breaker.

So MS and Oculus are in bed, AND they are doing hololens???

Yeah that was quite a surprise. DirectX 12 in windows 10 and vr are a match made in heaven. I guess getting ms involved and having an Xbox controller come standard is a good way to try and reach a bigger market.

I'm disappointed that touch isn't going to come with the rift at launch, but oh well. VR has come a long way in just 3 years and will continue to advance at a fast pace. My son is gonna be so freaking lucky.

Have u tried any VR yet?
Yep. Have tried Oculus a couple of times. First experience with it was with rudimentary graphics. Then last year I tried it at E3 playing Alien Isolation. The graphics don't really matter though to be honest. It's just so immersive, even pixelated blocky graphics can fool your mind.

I played an ice hockey demo yesterday. Quick impressions: Oculus is so immersive, it tricks your body into feeling physical sensations. I played a first person ice hockey game (as a goaltender) and swore I felt pucks whizzing by my head. It was a phenomenal experience.

I have another session scheduled for today!

I hear the Crytek demo is amazing, as well as the oculus touch toybox. Have fun!

Thanks for the update. Would love to hear your feedback on Oculus Touch if you get a chance to try it out.

I'm almost certainly getting the Rift over Vive. Although the Vive may have a slightly bigger range in tracking area, there's no way my wife will be ok with me fixing lighthouse to my walls. The camera solution for Oculus seems the better solution for my needs.
Also Oculus are getting a lot of stick for shipping with an Xbox controller but I'm pretty happy they're not just going down the standing/walking route. I'm mostly looking forward to racing sims and space sims in VR anyway so I think a quality lightweight headset is my main priority and Oculus seems to be delivering that.

Didn't get to try it.

But I did play Edge of Nowhere. First time I experienced disorientation or vertigo using Oculus, and it was astounding. Looking down a chasm while walking across a rickety bridge or looking around myself as I was fleeing shadowy predators was remarkable. The end of the demo was skin-crawlingly intense.

Cool, Edge of Nowhere sounds great. I know this isn't your first time using the Rift but now you've tried the consumer version, do you think VR will take off? A lot of gamers seem like they aren't interested. Do you think it's just a matter of trying it out for themselves?

I think it eventually will. People will just need to try it and have similar experiences like aceattorney. The biggest obstacle is having a good PC right now. Hopefully the PS4 can help out with that and get it in mainstream more. Looking forward to consumer version of GearVR too when the Note 5 releases later this year.
