In what's sure to be a blow to Ubisoft's next generation plans, Watch Dogs has been delayed until Spring 2014.

Our ambition from the start with Watch Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until spring 2014.

We know a lot of you are probably wondering: Why now? We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune each detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you. We thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the way you respond on the web, at events, press conferences and other opportunities we have to interact. Your passion keeps us motivated.

We can’t wait to see you in Chicago next spring. We are confident you’ll love this game as much as we love working on it.

UPDATE: Amazon has amended their product page for the PS4 Watch_Dogs launch day pre-order bundle with the following

All orders for the Watch Dogs PlayStation 4 bundle will keep their place in line and we will fulfill the PlayStation 4 (without the Watch Dogs game) in accordance with your current delivery estimate. We are working on adjusting these orders and will update you as soon as we know more.

Furthermore, Ubisoft has also announced a delay in it's open world racing game The Crew alongside revising their financial targets for the 2013-2014 fiscal year, projecting a non-IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) loss of between 40 and 70 million euros.

"Our long term goal is to win the next generation. The tough decisions we are taking today to fully realize the major potential of our new creations have an impact on our short-term performance. We are convinced that, longer term, they will prove to be the right decisions both in terms of satisfaction for our fans and in terms of value creation for our shareholders. We are building franchises that will become perennial pillars of Ubisoft’s financial performance. In a context of growing successes for mega-blockbusters, the additional time given to the development of our titles will allow them to fulfill their huge ambitions and thus offer players even more exceptional experiences” stated Ubisoft co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot. He concluded “Fueled by strong momentum for PlayStation 4 and XboxOne, calendar 2014 will see the return of growth to the console market. Combined with the quality of our line-up and our strong financial situation, this growth will allow us to achieve record operating income in fiscal 2014-15 and 2015-16."

This and ACIV were the only games I wanted at launch for the PS4... :really:

Oh well...plenty of other games to play until then.

Wow. I'm a little surprise. I can wait. I have plenty to tie my over.

W_D was going to be my pick between the launch Ubi open world games..guess ACIV it is lol. Going to be a lot of upset pre-orderers I would guess... Maybe they will just hold the pre-orders for the bundles and move the ship date to next year? I would hope not as that would peev off more people lol

They must change the game to another game.

This is actually a good thing for me, I was hard up for cash and was going to have to miss out on this anyway, now this has taken away that regretful feeling I had and I can buy it when it comes out in Spring :)

Bit surprised about this, didn't see this coming. But then again, not a huge surprise either, i mean both AC4 and WD were releasing on the same day...that can't be good. Still...i had expected a delay for AC and give the new IP a chance. I guess it really isn't finished then. Bit late in the game to delay it now though.

Same for me(but for the Xbone) and Watch Dog's is the one I wanted the most because I'm currently playing AC3 right after playing Revolutions and I'm getting a little burned out on the series. Thought I'd take a break and play Watch Dog's first! Really bummed!!!

It wouldn't surprise me though if the game IS done, but they don't want their own two (rather similar) games competing with eachother. But in my opinion they should have went with WD releasing first, brand new IP and all.

Definitely a scenario I could see being plausible, releasing two open world games at the same time would probably canabalize sales, especially during a wallet draining launch for most gamers

Some thing must have been pretty bad for a delay this late on if its not just a case of clashing with AC IV but then why announce dates that close together in the first place if that's going to worry you?

They wouldn't have set the release date together if that was the plan along. Like many other games that are pushed back they probably just needed more time. Two of the games many feel are up for the GOTY- Bioshock Infinite and the Last of Us did the same thing.

I am disappointed in this announcement, as this was the game i was most interested in getting with whichever console i decided to get.

RE: Watchdogs

That's no minor delay...the game must have had some serious issues.

look at the bright side, the game is going to be even better now :)

that's too bad. Guess I will cancel it for now and pre-order something else.

I pretty much saw this one coming. I had a feeling both of these would be delayed. Look for a lot of those next-gen games that are announced for around "March 2014" to be delayed until the Fall shopping season too.

I think this could easily happen as well.

Not too bothered as long as ubi dont make a habit of it. Only 1 of their titles I'm really looking forward to is the division

Can someone give me a reco to replace this game since I already paid for it? Thief? AC4? No shooters please.
