What movies have you seen recently?

Birdman 6/10
Keaton and Norton and everyone else is great in this. its great stuff, but it felt disjointed for me. It had all the ingredients(awesome dialogue, love the jazz drum soundtrack, great camera angles etc) to be great but it just didnt feel like it came together. I love abstract, avant garde movies that force the viewer to come to their own conclusions and yet this movie which is about an actor who used to play a superhero trying to make it back by putting on a play on broadway is just that; maybe better suited as a play.

My girlfriend is an agent. Fun movie. No true lies, but similar and it made me laugh a few times.

The man from nowhere. Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Felt for the little girl, hated that big bads and cheered for the protagonist. Will watch again, repeatedly.

Django Unchained 5/10
Watched it in its entirety bc I had only seen parts of it and it sucked.
Its only redeeming quality was Dr Schultz and Candie.

Mud 9/10
Gotta see Take shelter now! Very reminiscent of Stand By Me, maybe even better.

Really really want to see The Babadook

Take Shelter is awesome. God stars in it.

Fury 7/10 - Not to sure what the point of this is. The story makes the characters look stupid. I am pretty sure they were trying to convey courage and a like, but IMO they failed. However, I did find it very entertaining. The sound was pretty awesome.

lol.
It is awesome though.

Jesus Camp - disturbing.

Honestly it is hard to know what to say or where to start. There is just so much wrong with the ideals, methods, and beliefs shown in this documentary. Do not get me wrong, I think it is fine for a parent to share and to inform their children of their beliefs, their religions, and their ideals. What they do in this documentary goes far beyond that, it is brain washing. Taking young kids of 9 years old or younger and bombarding them day in and day out with religion and one sided opinions. Filling their heads with war and getting them to feel comfortable with sacrificing their life in the name of God.

They completely dismiss any idea that conflicts with theirs and force that belief upon their children. Parents home schooling their children and telling them creationism is the answer to everything, while Darwin's theory of evolution is just stupid. Again, telling them what you believe is fine, but children need to be given an opportunity to think for themselves.
There is a part where a Mother says that God told her to teach her children about character, but these children have no character. They are mindless drones regurgetating the ideals and beliefs shoved down their throats day after day. Not in a sweet, oh that's cute kind of way, but in a rather serious borderline fanatical way. They have children walking up to strangers telling them how god told them his plans for them. It is just crazy.

Honestly, there is so much to comment on in this documentary that I could make a huge essay worthy post. So I will finish on the way the documentary tries to oppose the ideas and beliefs of the fanatical authoritarian Evangelist Christians.
I actually liked the way they did it. They had a Radio personality who is a life long Christian commenting on some of the Ideas and beliefs as he talked to people phoning in. Where I think this method falls short is its lack of usage. They really needed more of it, or perhaps that was done intentionally to show how the logical more open minded Christians are being driven out and taken over by these Radical Evangelist Christians.

Anybody else seen this ?

Yes. Agree.

You have some suggestions for other documentaries I should watch ? thinking of doing a 10 day documentary marathon.
I have not watched a documentary movie for like 7-10 years( never liked them) but enjoyed watching Jesus camp.

Hmmm...lots of sports related stuff there. Not really the sort of thing that peaks my interest. Although, I might give the Tyson one a bash.

I will give Enron and Bully a watch

From Hell - 6/10 had not seen this in years. Its decent but nothing special. Depp is ok really like Ian Holm.

Fraility - 8/10 had not seen this since it came out did not remember much of it. Good movie i enjoyed it. Paxton was great.

22 Jump Street - 5/10 huge let down. I loved the first movie. This once just did nothing for me. Did like the Ice Cube part the look on his face lol.

Deliver Us From Evil - 6/10 it was decent and had a few creepy moments. Overall it was nothing special or stood out from recent horror flicks. Have seen better possession films. Did find the cop investigation angle of the film interesting.

Predestination - 7/10

I went in with very low expectations and was rewarded with an entertaining movie. As entertaining as it was, I do feel it was also a little silly(those who have seen this will likely understand).
I just do not get how they did not know.

Ethan Hawk was decent, his performance a little more than enough.
Sarah Snook, I thought, was very good. She was able to convey emotion with relative ease, and doesn't she have a cute smile ?

So nothing mind blowing or ground breaking, and despite being a little silly, it was entertaining.

Watched Hunger Games Catching Fire, it was enjoyable.

I have nothing to watch now, and not sure what I feel like :(

Caught a second viewing of Interstellar, but this time on IMAX 70mm. The gigantic screen made me hold my breath during some scenes.

I Saw the Devil ? Definitely do, it is awesome.

I can't bring myself to finish. It's just so dark and I'm not in the mood for that kind of dark most of the time.

I really did like "The man from nowhere", another korean revenge/action movie and a few others on netflix, but I saw the devil is going to get a complete watch the next time I'm in the mood for that kind of flick.

Yeah, it is pretty dark.

Another Korean movie I thought was OK was The yellow Sea. If you like The Yellow Sea then you might like The chaser. I was not a fan of the latter, but they are similar movies.

Enron : The Smartest Guys in the Room - very interesting.

Its funny watching this documentary and hearing an opinion at the end that this company was founded with good intentions and legitimate business ethics. If you they watched the documentary I just watched then I can not fathom how they come to that conclusion.

How do you come to a conclusion like that when the founder of the company has a sketchy unethical past with Enron Oil. Then you have the CEO who will only sign if they use a financial system called Mark to Market. This financial system, IMO, is the key factor in how this company did what it did for so long. It did business deals that made nothing and cost billions, but because of Mark to Market they could post future potential earnings way before they ever materialized. This kept the Quarterly reports looking tasty, and the stock prices reacted accordingly.
A good example of those dealings would be the Energy Plant in India. Cost billions, but somehow all these business geniuses did not realize that India's citizens could not afford the energy. Yet, they still posted huge profits thanks to Mark to Market and non-existent potential earnings.

The greed, hubris, and lack of empathy shown by this company is simply astonishing. Causing widespread blackouts in California by exporting the ample energy reserves to make millions a day. Then go a step further and intentionally shut down power plants to drive up energy prices is just despicable. The worse part is that they actually laugh about it. They actually take the piss out of the poor people who can not afford the huge 1,2,300% increases in energy prices.
To then freeze your workers accounts so they can not unload stock while the upper echelon unload hundreds of millions of their own just shows the moral compass they have.

For me this business started as and was run as an unethical business. It set out to manipulate it workers, banks, lawyers, analysts, wall street, and everyday citizens. It did it all through two things: Money, and false perception.

One of my favorite docs.

I can see why. It is very well presented. It is easy to follow, even for a layman. Most importantly it is interesting.

Thank You for the recommendation.

I also found The Fog of War on DVD today. I will watch that tomorrow.

Finally watched Ironclad. Seemed like a popular film, as I seen it often, on Supermarkt movie session, on plane movie session...etc

Its half decent, simple medieval action. The first part of gathering/recruiting followers look straight out of an RPG.

I give it a 7/10
