Kill The Irishman

Not one of the better gangster movies I've seen. Val Kilmer's acting as the detective seemed kind of flat. Ray Stephenson does deserve some credit though for being a convincing Irish mobster and street brawler. I felt like the weak part of this movie was the Director and Stephenson was trying to bring life to his character on-screen despite the weak direction.

The odd strength of the movie is that it is based on true events. I grew up in southeast Michigan and it was interesting to me that this all involved the Youngstown and Cleveland, Ohio mafia.

The movie also explores a weird take on Irish heritage that many Americans have. I figure that was the biggest selling point of the movie was trying to cash in on this.

Overall, it was decent and had good moments, but is nothing compared to The Departed if you're looking for an Irish Gangster film.

The Hobbit:TBOTFA 8/10

Went in expecting not to like it bc the first two let me down a bit. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Even though it was over the top, I enjoyed it a lot.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes - 9/10 great sequel i loved it. They did a great job bringing the apes to life on screen. Looking forward to another film. I got this on sale for $11 at Best Buy the weekend before Christmas glad i did.

I thought Gone Girl was good, but I was hoping for something more believable and gritty along the lines of Mystic River or Gone Baby, Gone.

The Interview - Terrible/10

Agreed.

Gone Girl was a big disappointment to me. Multiple times I found myself feeling bored. It never really drew me in, never got me engaged in the plot or caring for any character. It wasn't bad, per se, but not amazing either.

.
"they hate us cause they aint us"

i thought it was a typical average silly comedy. i didnt think it was anything specially bad. franco and seth scenes were still pretty good.

Fixed.

It is one those that is too over the top for me. I actually thought Franco was terrible. Not very funny at all, but then, I have yet to see a comedy of his I think he is good in. He was great in 127 hours, and he was Decent in Spring Breakers, but I can not stand him in movies like Pineapple Express, Your Highness, and now The Interview.

he did actually say aint us, it just sounded like anus

your highness is pathetic but pineapple express was great

You weren't supposed to care for any character. You're supposed to hate them.

Finally saw Interstellar. Liked it a lot.

I am torn on Interstellar. It has some nice visuals and I liked that Nolan went with fairly out-there theoretical science, but at the same time, I think he went a bit too far with it.
I actually liked the first half of the movie most. Where there seemed to be this argument for staying true to our nature rather than devolving to simple basic instincts. The Idea that simply surviving is not enough.

As the movie progressed, I found myself less and less interested in it. It seemed to become less and less about the characters and more focused on using them as narrators to convey the ideas behind the science.

I did not like Matt Damon's character in Interstellar. Don't want to get into specifics because of spoilers, but I'll just say I think that type of characters is getting to be a space movie cliche.

well when you consider how long he was alone and then the years being frozen, it would be weird if he didnt have some kind of problem

So you're saying you found it just alright alright alright?

I think most people may need two watches. It throws a lot of science at you so you are(I was) always trying to see how it works or fits. I think with an initial viewing like that and then a second viewing it may be more...I don't know, comprehensible, maybe.

Usually when I watch a movie like this I'll Google it shortly after I finish watching and see if people think the same things as me.

It shouldn't have been Matt Damon

It should have been Cillian Murphy....

..... as Scarecrow!!! Proving once again he's the one Chris Nolan bad guy who can't be beaten.

A little late to the party, but I went into Interstellar with zero anticipation and came out pleasantly surprised. You can see how Nolan almost stretched too far with it and managed not to.

So there is a new Michael Mann film coming up which is called Blackhat. I did not watch it yet. I thought he would make a more commercial film like Collateral, but the lead-up to the release sound exactly like contemporary Michael Mann films.

First, there was Harry Gregson-Williams declaring that none of his materials were used for the film.

And then we start getting reviews, more than half of them panning its sloppy storytelling and muddled focus, others praising its great use of space and colors and stuffs, like they would review an arthouse film - what Mann's contemporary films are, despite of the budget.

This is Miami Vice and Public Enemies all over again. I have seen it coming to some degree, but not a total recall like this.

Now I can't wait.

I honestly had no idea Blackhat was a Mann film until about two weeks ago. Which is great because it meant less of a wait until I saw it. It's been way too damn long since Public Enemies came out.

Anyways, I loved it. Fck the critics. I haven't read any of their reviews but I did see a couple viewer reviews on IMDB and their complaints are pathetic. One person gave it a 1/10 and only complained about his style of cinematography or whatever. Um where the hell have you been? This is Mann's style and it looks amazing. Maybe not everyone likes it but I love his use of digital cameras. Then others being ignorant complaining about the hacking. I'm in IT and pretty much everything was spot on and plausible. There are other issues but I won't go into them because of the possible spoiler aspect. Either way most of them are garbage.

Maybe it's hard to judge it with my Mann colored glasses but I loved it. Might even find time to see it again before it leaves theaters. Oh yea and Wei Tang :ylove:

I'm seeing it this week. Tomorrow is American Sniper. May see both tomorrow. The critics won't deter me. I'm glad you liked it and as someone in IT I'm glad it passes your test. Can't wait.

I have a 2 year degree in Cyber Security so I pretty much have to see Black Hat. It's a Mann film so I have confidence in it being a good movie as long as the script is decent.
