What movies have you seen recently?

Saw Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and enjoyed it. The amount of comedy was annoying, since so many jokes felt pedantic and unfunny. I also don't like how Starlord has somehow devolved into more of a manchild as the movie progressed until he fights Ego. The way they handled Drax left me a bit disappointed too. I'm not against humor and giving a film a light feel, but it seemed like the characters were completely different at times and some of the dialogue choices could have been handled so much better. All that said, they deliver on action and set pieces, the actual drama was good to watch, and Teen Groot is one of the funniest damn things I ever saw. It's good enough to make into a little spin-off of some kind, like a comic strip or 4-5 minute animations.

I also saw Deathnote on Netflix. Good movie overall, had a nice steady pace for having so much information. I don't entirely get why they chose to keep the character names, instead of just making it more of an anthology series based around the actual Deathnote. The movie gave me vibes that this was an idea at some point, but someone wanted the character names in hopes of selling the movie. Someone I know put it best, it's probably the best teen horror film that's been put out in ages. Maybe it's because those aren't released very often anymore, but point is, the ride was fun.

Star Wars The Last Jedi - 9/10 I had a great time. It was not perfect and a couple things they could have made shorter or cut out completely. Also no backstory for a certain character and now they are gone I was like WTF??? Those EPIC moments though and Mark Hamill killed it! I’m curious where they take it from here. As a fan I was pleased.

Alien Covenant: finally got around to watching it... Normally having two of Michael Fassbender would be the stuff of my fantasies, but I'm not sure it really works in this instance.

My second least favourite Alien movie. The CGI in this one looked messed up, and the story line was pretty craptacular.

Was there a massive budget cut in this one compared to Prometheus?

I thought most to the FX were actually impressive, though not consistent with the previous movies like when the first real Xenomorph emerges.

It was enjoyable, but did have bad tropes like incredibly dumb space crewman including and disappointing to see Dr. Shaw discarded as a character while looking quite stupid for rebuilding David.

My hope has been that Covenenant was the 2nd movie in what is intended to be a trilogy. I generally accept that the 2nd movie in trilogies will have weird flaws as they are burdened with setting up the 3rd movie. However, I'm started to wonder of Ridley Scott even knows that the 3rd movie was supposed to be or if it'll even happen. This franchise might now be under control of Disney soon as well.

Dunkirk 4K

It looks so damn good in 4k and still really good just a shame a lot of lines are near impossible to hear due to Nolan audio choice

The Show: turns out, a movie about getting entertained by watching people kill themselves isn't a great date movie. I liked it though.

Home Again: typical date movie, but there's this guy in it who is super cute, but his legs are crazy bow-legged. Like, to the point where you think "did I actually see that?" Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Man, the next week is going to be busy movie watching wise. I want to see all of these before the end of the year.

Downsizing
Father Figures
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
The Greatest Showman
The Shape of Water
Star Wars: The Last Jedi (see it again)

The Last Jedi - Worst of the last 3 SW films. I would give it 6/10

The Snowman - Terrible.

Dunkirk - Not bad. I enjoyed it, but it falls way short of other great war movies llike, Platoon, Saving P' Ryan, Full Metal jacket, etc.

Shape of Water looks interesting.

The rest, meh.

I'll be taking my Nephew to see Jumanji the day affter Xmas.

I watched Dunkirk and must of seen a different movie to other people. The sound was great, looked good but just didn't like the movie. I'd much rather a hacksaw ridge style movie.

It looks great, I was just saying the film score sometimes was loud and hard to hear dialogue.

I remember people saying they had trouble understanding Watanabe but apart from the old man scene I found everything else fine.

The music could do with being turned down a little in Nolans films

Saw Coco, one of Pixar’s best, hits ya good, I’d say in my top three Pixar films.

So many neat Lil Easter eggs, blink and you’ll miss them, especially the first one. There’s another that’s a nod to another Pixar character who suffers the same faith.

Art direction and colour pallet was just jaw dropping, character design and voice actors are spot on. The theme was very relatable, charming and sweet.

Do wonder if some of the songs sound better in Spanish, they weren’t bad, just a few songs where they were in both Spanish and English felt a bit forced.

Would definitely go see it again, this is a fantastic family movie.

Dante is 11/10

Bright - Really Damn Good

I almost didn’t watch it. I think I would have eventually seen it, but Rotten Tomatoes as it in the mid 30s. The aggregate couldn’t be more wrong. Watch it.

yeah, enjoyed it. not great but good
I was surprised by it. I really annoyed it.

I almost rolled my eyes when they completely ripped Training Day, but it was saved by a nice twist to it.

Also, did Will Smith have work done on his face? His face looked a little weird. It was more than the mustache.

Dunkirk. Thought it was just ok. Very forgettable film though and it shouldn't be at all given the material. Perhaps I expected too much. I think Fury was much better.

Oh I saw Spiderman Homecoming earlier this week. I'm not really a fan of Spiderman as far as comic movies go but I thought this reboot was excellent.
Liked the way they did Vulture with the fan style mechanical wings and didn't do some r******d feather thing. Liked how the movie was about him being so awkward with his new power and suit and didn't have him going instant superhero. Don't like the OP super suit Stark gave him but it certainly looked cool.
