What movies have you seen recently?

Also, I treated my little cousin whose been cooped up all his vacation because his parents had to work to the new Jumanji movie, and brought my dad along as well. Really fun movie, not as good as the first of course, but I thought it handled things pretty well. Like why it turns into a video game instead of a board game, and it has a great reference to the first film. It was overall a good ride with a solid cast.

If I had to give it weaknesses, the antagonist isn't as interesting as he could be, and I wasn't even expecting a Jonathan Hyde level performance or anything. They did an interesting job of presenting a video game world, as in they have NPCs talking in loops, levels, lives, and certain rules, but in doing so, it makes Jumanji feel less lively, although the actual jungle looks spectacular. It also misses a bit on consequences of actions outside of losing lives. In the first film, if you cheat, there was bound to be a penalty. You don't see much of that here. It's a great adventure movie, but it's lacking the magic and mystery of the original. Although it does have some interesting surprises here and there.

Good movie, but they needed to add a bit more depth to the world at large. Honestly, if the villain was more interesting, it would have rounded everything out so much more.

Just got done watching the Netflix Original movie, 'Message From the King' a few minutes ago.

Gotta say, this movie totally sold me on Chadwick Boseman. Looking forward to Black Panther.

Message from the King is definitely recommended. It's a lot better than the IMDB rating would suggest. Highlights would be the acting and cinematography, it's well shot, good pacing, scenes all flow well including the action bits.. story is decent enough to get you through the movie, it's solid though it's nothing revolutionary by any means, probably a bit predictable.

I enjoyed it though, it was enough to get me interested in the actor and enough to get me over my butthurt with them somehow picking this dude instead of Jai White to play as Black Panther. Like, I actually thought the movie had already came out a while ago, so that should tell you how much it was on my radar before a few hours ago.

The Mountain Between Us: well, I'm 30 minutes in, and I really want both of them to die, and have the dog eat their corpses before they freeze too solid.

Not only that, you have Idris Elba, who is one of the finest looking men on the planet, and you cast him on a movie in a puffy clothing, scarves and thermals!?

Redo the movie on a tropical island, whack a banana hammock on him, and it !ight be a bit more interesting.

And Winslet has floated between 3 accents so far...

Edit: finished the movie... Holy f*** sticks. Talk about completely unlikable protagonist. And for the most part, it seems like they both hate each other.

I think the characters just don't translate from the book in this screenplay.

The Shape of Water - Below Average

Drawn out. Boring because of it. Cool art direction. I just can’t seem to enjoy and Del Torro movies. I just liked Pacific Rim and Blade II. Other than those two, none that come to mind.
Agree. Not sure why Shape of Water was so critically acclaimed.

Bright: Decent and not horrible

I went in expecting a pile of crap based on the general consensus, but it ended up being actually gritty and interesting. I admit it did take about 1/3 or perhaps 1/2 of the movie to get me sunk into it because they don't quite explain how all of these mythical creatures ended up in the real world, but I just kind of accepted it and got sold on the rest of the movie.

i feel people jusged that movie on what they wished it was, more than what it was

The Mummy avec Tom Cruise. Thought it was poor. Could have been so much better if the script wasn't so bad. At the very end of movie they did everything but put the words, "The Mummy 2 ... coming soon" before the credits rolled.

Three Billboards outside of Ebbing: I loved it! I mean, there were a bunch of things I'd have changed up, and it did seem like it was sitting halfway between black comedy and a crime-drama... But Francis McDormand f***ing nailed the part. She's so easy to love/hate.

And I think the ending was absolutely perfect for the movie.

Pacific Rim 4K

Easily one of the best films to show off 4K. Gorgeous looking movie.

Watched Mad Max Fury Road lastnight. Thought it was ok just ok. Wouldn't bother to watch again.
couldnt disagree more, just watched it again since i got the 4k blu ray rental and yes story isnt anything special(there is a story) and it could be seen as just another action movie but the visuals and audio put it to another level

The character designs, vehicled designs, location designs... these all add huge value to me and makes the movie stand out.

I've been working as a truck driver so I love this movie lmao. I've also seen my share of f***ing crazy drivers. I can just imagine driving the War Rig or the People Eater Limo.

I have driven Freightliners and Internationals and now an Ottowa yard truck for a local gig.

Aside from all that, I think George Miller's goal with the original MAD MAX was to explore something latent in modern human nature as it has evolved to include our machines almost as part of our identity. The movie aims more for themes than an intricate plot while giving great action along the way with intense color saturation.

Cap Murica Civil War. Pretty burnt out on comic book movies which is why it took so long to watch this. I enjoy them but the fact there are two or three a year is just too damn much, and I already feel the same way with Star Wars as well. Haven't seen Rogue One or Last Jedi yet either. Maybe a Disney issue then...

Anyways don't remember the response to Civil War but I really enjoyed it. Perhaps taking a lot of time between watching these helps with that. Also loved new Spider-Man and Black Panther. That said even though I was a huge Spider-Man fan when I was younger and didn't know jack about Black Panther, I am super hyped for the Black Panther movie.

I do agree, but I still liked Wonder Woman...mostly...and Black Panther looks awesome.

I think the issue is the majority of these movied are based on the popular characters most know very well. Movies based on the lesse known like Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther are more interesting.
