What movies have you seen recently?

I thought maybe that was the whole point? Where it differentiates itself from patriotism. I'm not sure if that was what actually happened, but the point is clearly to show how unprepared the army was.

I hope not, cause that would be silly. An anti-Piracy unit working in high piracy waters were unprepared for a Piracy event ? not too mention that they show the initial Naval Unit shifting in to what seems like well rehearsed drills for such events

Well I guess we don't know unless someone reads Richard Phillips's own memoir. Anybody read it?

Runner Runner - 2/10

I really must stop letting people make me watch stuff I do not want to watch. I watched the entire movie and not once did I know what it was about. Glad it's over .

Traffic - great movie about the war on drugs. Good cast.

Troy directors cut - looked great on Blu Ray but the movie as a whole not as good as i remember. I few bad ass parts though.

Second time watching Gravity... I know I should like this film, but something just doesn't hold up for me. I really have no idea why. Maybe there are too much lines for my likings, but I can def. say this is my least favorite of 4 films I watched in October.

I must say the best two films I've come across during the last month were Rush and Prisoners, especially the latter. Child abduction story usually gets too stressful and emotionally challenging to work as a good movie, but Prisoners was always investigation first. I really liked how character exposition was done in a very subtle way and you always have to pay attention to be paid off at the end, how people with different intention intertwines with each other as they go along, what happens when one has gone too far and there's no going back, etc.

Gravity is good as a visual spectacle. Anything beyond that and it falls very short of the mark IMO.

Prisoners was decent, but I hated how they copped out in those last few shots. It is also some what predictable too. What the characters will do. Who is doing what..etc.

I also felt that the movie became kinda predictable after Melissa Leo turned out to be the kidnapper, but not only what came before was so good, I think the director deliberately removed some details to explain her motives. Everything about the truth and its aftermath is a little bit too predictable, so leaving them in a mystery forever and the postmortem shortest as possible seems like a good choice. And dat last shot, I don't think I'll forget.

R.I.P.D. - 5/10 Better than I thought. Jeff was pretty funny.

The American - 8/10 Also a lot better than I thought. Gorgeous film BTW.

Shame it took you so long to see The American. I saw it in theater and have it on Bluray. You NEEEEEEEEEEED to see Le Samurai. The American draws heavy influence from it.

I CONCUR. LE SAMURAI IS A MUST. The American or not, you need to see it.

Wow, there was something I wanted to ask, and there's no better timing to ask this question than now. Has anybody watched Manhunter? I have been a huge admirer of Michael Mann but I realized I've been criminally ignoring his 80s career when I watched Thief.

Room 237 - Awful
One of the worst documentaries I've ever seen. It's filled with so much nonsense and irrational conclusions Info Wars would roll their eyes.
I actually thought the opinions made the film, but in a funny way. Like the guy who saw Kubrick's face in the clouds after the opening credits rolled. Funniest part for me.

Also, has anyone seen the Carrie remake? I've heard that it's decent as a movie, but disappointing as a Carrie flick. Part of me wants to see it as an excuse to go the movies, but it just looks so meh. Why couldn't they save Evil Dead for halloween? That was a pretty good remake overall.

After Earth 1/10

WOW, what a complete hunk of s***. I got 30 minutes into it and couldn't take it anymore. I can usually sit through anything and see it to the end... but this, this garbage, was just to much. When is Shamalanany going to stop!

I should have listened! I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED! I just thought... "there is no WAY he could mess a movie up more than The Last Airbender, it can't be THAT bad.". But it was.

I know the Honest Trailers are usually just good ball busting fun. But with this one, it's for real and I really couldn't agree more.

That trailer :laugh:. I agree, it is very accurate.

On a side note: I actually didn't mind Last Bender, but then I had super low expectations any way.
