What movies have you seen recently?

There are no flaws in the story. Its a movie not a doc about our space program. Just seems like you found something not to like. I could pick apart any great movie, but why? I watch movies for entertainment.

RIPD 7/10

Better than I expected after bombing so bad at the box office. It's a decent escape film.

Batman: Under The Red Hood - my son has discovered Batman and now wants to be him for Holloween lol. We just watched this. Was a good animated flick i liked it. What other good animated films are there? Only other one i remember is the old Mask of the Phantasm, it was great.

The wife and I just watched "The Heat". Good for a few laughs. Definitely good for a movie when you don't feel like a lot of thinking.

Gravity (IMAX 3D) - Great

I finally got around to seeing Gravity in IMAX 3d. It was one of the best movie experiences I've ever had. It's not just a movie, it's an experience. There's no other way to see it other than in 3D, preferably IMAX 3D. When I go to the movies I want to be entertained. Entertainment can come in many different forms for me when it comes to movies. I get just as much entertainment from Fast and Furious as I do from There Will Be Blood. That's not to say those two are of the same quality films but I get a large amount of entertainment both and that's what the movie going experience is all about.

Gravity is a film that needs to b experienced in the theater. There's no comparison to it being on the home screen. Space is vast and large and open. The viewing experience for Gravity needs to mimic that. That cannot be understated. There are a few movies I regretted not seeing in the theater. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is one. Gravity would be added to that list. At times, seeing it in IMAX 3D, I felt as if I was out there in space. I had experiences of fear of heights. I felt the motion the motion and helpless motion the characters felt. Not motion sickness to anything but my eyes were all over the place sometimes that I literally felt as if I was floating in space. That's how powerful the IMAX 3D and cinematography was.

The story is formulaic. That doesn't matter though. The acting by Clooney and Bullock is about what you would expect. They get the job done. The movie really doesn't call for much more than that. So what makes Gravity so "great?" One name, Emmanuel Lubezki.

Lubezki one again created magic on the screen. As he did with Children of Men, The Tree of Life and The New World, Lubezki has taken cinematography to a new level not seen before. There were many scenes where I was left with my mouth open at the genius behind the camera work. I know cinematographers that saw the film gave it a standing ovation. Please let there be an hour documentary solely dedicated to Lubezk's work on Gravity. I don't see how in the world anybody can snub him, again, for an academy award.

Emmanuel Lubezki should have won if for The New World and it's a travesty he did not get it for Children of Men. Tree of Life was great work but the accomplishment of Hugo is unsurpassed and a turning point for 3D camera work. I can see why Lubezki didn't win it for that. But he's going to win it this year. This should be his third Academy Award.

Not to be outdone is Cuaron's direction and the spectacular work of the special effects team. They, along with Lubezki, did amazing work with Gravity. There's isn't one single thing that could have made the movie better. There's enough caring for the outcome of the film and the characters. I felt the ups and downs the characters felt. I was invested in their emotions. I wanted to help them but felt helpless that I couldn't.

Go see Gravity. See it now. See it on as large of a 3D screen as you can. That's how the movie needs to be watch. Doing it any other way is not doing it justice. At the very least it needs to be seen in 3D. It's one of the best movies experience I've ever had and there's no possible way to leave the theater disappointed. I sure as hell didn't.

Glad you liked it. It was amazing.

But it's Paul Greengrass!!! :txbmad::txbmad::txbmad:

Frankly though, I don't know much about accents. And the movie is comprised of 3 chapters, and you don't entirely get the whole film until the third act, so you might want to stream it later.

Watched Pacific Rim yesterday and for me the movie was an uber disappointment. Poor and highly predictable story and the acting of some of the supporting cast is horrible.

The Purge - Pretty terrible. The premise is OK at best.. was just done really poorly. Some pretty decent action + an inappropriately hot underage daughter wearing what looks like a slutty schoolgirl Halloween outfit made it barely watchable.

I agree with pretty much everything here except for

It mattered to me. Was such a shame to have all that fantastic work done around such a shallow story.

having said that though a Blu-ra purchases will be a necessity. This should be the de facto demo disk when it releases. Both for visuals and Audio.

I totally dug Man of Steel, don't understand the hate it got from a lot of people I've talked to. Reminded me so much of Reeves superman 1 & 2 combined. The final fall of Zod was epic.
Yes it was so much better than the last train wreck and yes it did remind me of Reeves. Cant believe it got some hate!
I guess having my head buried in the sand ain't so bad after all.

I didn't think Superman returns was such a train wreck. I thought it was pretty Solid. A bit long, but solid.

Having said that though I really liked Man Of steel too. It's main issue is trying to do to much IMO. which made the movie come off a little rushed and lacking focus, but still very enjoyable. Loved the power they managed to show in that ZOD v Supes confrontation.
