Xbox One X

On one hand I don't blame MS for being patient and allowing VR to evolve further, but on the other hand.....Sony is on top of this and competition is what drives the industry so...

I don't blame them for taking their time on it, let Sony do the work and see how many people with that huge installed base are really open to VR. Not only that but I think it's better to wait for the tech to mature a bit, maybe on their next console where they can really have nice visuals without much compromise as well as hopefully a wireless connection between the headset and the console. They got burned with Kinect so I can understand them being gun shy with expensive peripherals.

Can anyone recommend a good wireless virtual surround headset for the One X?

All good points but.....dat Wipeout VR tho

Wow!! The difference is pretty crazy.

Definitely going to replay this on my X. Probably the closest we will ever get to a PC release.

It's funny, when I see how these BC non enhanced games look they all seem worse than I remember them looking. I know they aren't, it's just with the display tech what it was at the time the games looked good, now they just don't hold up, well not until the BC team works their magic on them lol.

PSVR feels like PS1 for me in many ways. Like the introduction to 3D, the PS1 wasn't there and neither is PSVR, to be fair, I think PSVR is much closer to true VR than PS1 was to doing 3D though.

The cool thing is new tech is an inspiration for developers. Sure, next gen will yield better VR tech of course, but developers are excited now and it shows. There are several examples why its special right now, just like when PS1 had crappy 3D, there was a certain magic, excitement to make games for it and I think that's why there are so many classics on PS1.

Sooo...Phil gives an indisputable affirmation and "doubt it" because...?
I think Zack is just having fun....as the game has turned into The Last Guardian. Watch it come out for the Xbox Two :)

Phil said YES, but never said WHEN! :)

Yeah when they zoom in 200% or whatever and you see all these shimmering artifacts swimming around and then the X version cleans everything up, it's almost unbelievable.

That, and everything just looks clean and nice from an IQ standpoint.

There is so much more visible detail in that and Gears 2. I am loving it. Didn't have to pay a dime either. Can't beat that!

Why aren't you guys posting The Division 4k shots?

Get to it slackers.

But nobody wants to play old games...

Not only did we not think that back compatibility was possible at the start of this generation, but enhanced, 4K resolution versions of your Xbox and Xbox 360 discs being playable were unthinkable... and the fact that they are doing this kind of enhanced preservation back to the OG Xbox is really something. I'm also amazed at how versatile they are making use of X's extra horsepower.

This is the stuff that PC gamers have already bragged about. One platform, being able to play games dating WAY back.

To be honest I don't have much interest in playing old games that don't have the One X enhancements, I tried playing the witcher 2 again before they fixed it up and it was just a blurry mess so I stopped, red dead looked pretty bad too. I hope they can get bad company 2 fixed up because people are still playing that and seeing it look better would be nice, sadly it's still 30fps but it's still more fun than any other BF that's come out since IMO. Of course I'd much rather we get an actual re-master with that game, better textures and 60fps would be even better.

Why do I have this nagging feeling Crackdown 3 will be another disappointing 'game as a service', void of content and score a lowly 7 in metacritic.

It really brought Gears 2 back to life. It was so muddy to look at that any time I tried to go back, it just didn't stack up to even Gears 3. It actually manages to wow me on occasion, now. The Res boost had an additive effect on the individual elements as well. The ugly Bloom/DoF they had before looks totally different now. The game is also still fun to play. Doesn't feel dated (though that's partly because Gears 4 didn't change the script).

Yeah, I think making the Xbox somewhat like a closed PC was always the goal, but they are just starting to understand what the consumer actually wants from that.

Started playing RDR on BC a few months before the patch, imo it looked great even then, much better than I thought it would. That's even after playing some of the 4k Scorpio titles just before. Not sure I'll have time to continue at the moment though, too many other games needing to be finished first I'm afraid.

I'm hearing Darksiders is a transformative update with the 4k. I remember even back then it was blurry compared to other games. It looked sub 720p to me.

I posted a few shots in the Screenshot thread. Looks pretty damned good, holds up decently to even the Remastered version.

If Microsoft delivers this fall with something that's truly a step forward, it'll be right on time, imo. Last fall was all about delivering on X.

Wipeout is really good. I've played quite a few tracks. The Last Guardian demo still WOWs me the most. A full game at that level would be amazing! This brings up a great point. Just like in TV/monitor gaming, it really comes down to software design, and Sony still has some of the best console developers who also believes in supporting their hardware. Microsoft needs Sony-level or greater 1st party support.

This is very true! One of the most perfect parallels would actually be playing Tomb Raider with the original controller and D pad. The original 2 Tomb Raider games were absolutely amazing at the time because 3D games were actually a new thing. Try playing one of them now, and it's a whole different story because controlling a modern 3D graphics game with a D pad is just not a satisfying gameplay experience.

Why this relates directly to PSVR, is that this is what we are forced to do with the Move controllers, but it's actually more like playing a modern game with a proverbial NES pad. Forward quite a few years into the future, and a lot of these VR games (the ones that obviously aren't played with the Dual Stock 4) will be nearly unplayable. Because why? It's the Tomb Raider effect all over again.
