Thief

I always figured MS started putting their next gen strategy in place for the new console right around the time the first kinect launched and maybe didn't realize how quickly demand for it would die down. It really seems like a misfire, yes I know it's very early in the new generation to start proclaiming things failures but I don't see it being heavily supported by third parties ever. It would have been different had Sony included the PS camera with the PS4, then devs likely would have taken the time to at least put things in that both cameras could take advantage of but now why bother? only one console has a camera packed in and it's not even the market leader so why spend the resources? especially when they already have to work a bit harder on the X1 games to begin with.

Third parties will continue to use kinect for smaller optional features in core games.

Indies and First Party will more than likely be where will see the majority of heavy kinect games.

This FRU game looks great. Would love to play it. Hopefully they'll release it.:

Its weird for me because I really like stealth action games but the game play vids I've seen look so boring. But I haven't dug too deep yet. But if release trailers designed to excite me don't do that then its a bad sign for me. Ohh well, March has three games I'm buying.

What's even weirder is that I generally hate all out stealth games ( I know you can go action) but this one has me eager to play. It just seems to work, it seems logical, and it doesn't seem like it babysits you. It seems you have to put some effort in to finding the right way, finding the piece of info needed to progress. Nowadays there is way too much hand holding that makes completing games far less rewarding.

I don't even know how much that 8% will matter honestly. I'd rather they just use that for making the framerate more stable at 720p upscaled than try to push for 1080p just to have that stat on the box.

Depends on the game. Games will improve as time goes on too... The games that are coming out now for both consoles won't nearly be the best looking games for either.

A game developer may want to keep things at a steady 30 FPS without the game going lower. They may originally set the game to 1080p but the game runs at say, ~25 FPS. Therefore they set the game to 900p and easily gets 30 FPS with it.

With the "8%" though, a game developer may be able to keep their game at 30 FPS at 1080p. While the difference from 900p to 1080p isn't "8%", it could still play a role in a developer deciding what resolution to set their game at.

25fps -> 30fps requires 20% more power, not 8%, no where near 8%. 8% increase from 25fps is more like 27fps, you'd need to be at 27.8fps already. But the point is valid.

I just used "~25" since it's a solid figure.

Saw someone stream it with the PS4 last week because some store broke the street date, didn't look that intriguing to me.

I only played a thief title once and remember it was forgettable...

This made by the same people that did Deus Ex: Human Revolution? But that game was GOTY material!

70% average reviews on meta critic atm, which I don't think is bad at all so still getting my copy :D
Only thing that I am not happy about are the long loading times that many reviewers complain about, this should not be happening this gen!

I'm still interested in trying it out, seems like a good rental or budget title.

Same studio, but I believe Deus Ex and this game's teams were made up of different people. They def run on different engines. Which seems silly to me to not have more collaboration.

I also fear what Square Enix's sales expectations are for this one.

Well we all saw this coming when most major sites have not really talked about this game at all.

69% at Metacritic now is kinda poor, with Gamespot & IGN all giving it below 70%.

Sales will certainly will be affected quite significantly. Its not a purchase for me after reading the reviews. I am sure many are on the same boat as me.

Glad I picked up Rayman Legends instead. Hopefully it hits a good price in a couple of months.

I'll get it eventually. I loved the first two.

The game that was on Xbox I always had interest in but never got it.

Heard there's more framerate problems with the PS4 version.

Either way, the reviews don't surprise me. Knew it would get this range of scores based on what other people were telling me about the game last week.

Man, Lords of Shadow 2 doesn't sound like it's doing so hot in the reviews, either. Guess I'll wait for price-drops on those two and just pick up Tales of Symphonia Chronicles tomorrow.

Is 3rd person stealth > 1st person stealth? I always hated the horse blinder feeling the first person gives you in stealth games.

More problems with framerate on the PS4, because of 1080p, fewer problems on the X1, due to 900p, at least according to this guy:

"Playing through Thief on PS4 and Xbox One over the past week I'm not so sure 1080p on consoles is a standard that should be set for next-gen. The PS4 version struggles needlessly to try to maintain a 30 frames per second presentation, regularly dipping into the 15-20 range during gameplay. At several points in the journey, it even edges toward the single digits. That isn't even something I remember dealing with on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360."

"What makes this particularly controversial is the Xbox One version does a much better job of maintaining a steady framerate. I'd go as far as to say because of this, the Xbox One version is better. So how is it that Thief on Xbox One is able to do this? Well, the short answer is 900p."

"It's displayed at a lower resolution, requiring roughly 660,000 fewer pixels per image to be rendered. However, the visual clarity would make you think the six-digit figure is in no way accurate. The truth is that's due to diminishing returns. Between 900p and 1080p the images don't look nearly as different as going from the standard definition output of 480i up to 720p. Surprisingly, the pixel difference is the same."
