Drive Club 30 fps vs. Forza 60 fps discussions

Bottom lines are:
PS4 is a little more powerful than X1, no matter how you want to argue (bring in Ryse, 30fps on Dc etc), currently. Just let it go people.
Developers play a significant part visually, as much as hardware, or even more. (see my Vettel vs granny hypothetical arguement).

Bottom line is how much fun the game is.

Yes, but that's another topic. ;)

People keep arguing around why one is better (& its not even about the game, but the consoles) than others, using trees, fps etc, when clearly it is hard to do so, as they are from different developers, with different priority & resources.

We do can agree in the end, fun factor is most important.

We can agree with that, eff the rest of them.
If I had a PS4 I'd be champing at the bit for Drive Club!

1 million trees...
1 trillion jaggies...

:)

Canada indeed looks tits.

Forza had jaggies.

Ah, no.

Weren't you going to provide some direct shots from Forza about a week ago? what happened?.

TBH the jaggies are probably around the same, then again its kinda fair considering the level of foliage and 3d spectators / AF / effects that drive club has in comparison.

Sometimes I wonder if I will ever find time to take a s*** these days :(. I need more time to get on my consoles.

Driveclub delayed a year to boost tree count from 100k to 1 million. Lol

Doesn't Forza have zero AA? It's silly at this point to argue that Forza 5 looks better than this, it's just a matter of whether or not the improved visuals are worth 30fps.

It didn't look like it had AA from what I saw, if it did then it was very little. I don't own the game though, can't say for sure.

Maybe if PS4 were ~3 TF it could hit 60 fps at the current level of Driveclub code.

It looks good imo esp. the Canada video. A lot of the PS4's power budget went into the lighting, shading, reflections, and environmental draw distance and complexity.

I've played Forza 5 a couple times at a demo station on a large well lit HDTV. The 60 FPS is nice, but it's very obvious they axed almost every visual effect, most anti-aliasing, scene geometry, etc. to get there.

It does have some post-processing AA and uses DOF and motion blur to help hide them too. However, the cockpit seems to lack any of that treatment. Drive club does not look all that much better though. I look at drive club and it really does not look all that much better than Forza. Both games seem to have wasted resources on the vistas/draw distances, and both games have made the mistake of thinking that 1080P clarity without decent AA is a good thing.

All the talk over Drive Clubs foliage and 3D crowds is worthless. They are just blurred shapes and colours when you are driving/racing. So why waste resources on them. Why have trees so far in the distance with real time shadows ? You are never going to notice when racing. The only good positive Drive Club has in the graphics department is Dynamic Lighting, IMO.

I always stop in the middle of a race to look at the trees and crowds I thought everyone did. (This is where I would place the sarcastic emoticon if I could actually use them.)

I really feel this thread has run it's course. I'm sure you guys will make a new versus thread when Forza Horizon 2 and GT7 comes out.

It's suppose to have post processed AA. Unfortunately it's almost completely broken to the point I don't know why they even bothered.

I would just leave it. Otherwise you will see the official thread build up a similar tone.

having watched videos (uncompressed videos, not gifs that make every game look better then it is), This game looks like it could have been done on a PS3 at 720p...

Hell.. i think Forza horizon looks pretty close to this. but this has more colourful environments.

Guess I'm watching different vids I think the game looks great and def not something that could be done on last gen systems. If you seriously think this game could be done on PS3 then you must think Forza looks like it could be done on 360.

that comment is maybe abit too unfair on Drive club

but i mean.. they say they render million trees but if they were using static images for trees in the range(or whatever its used normally) and we saw no different then who cares? they seem to have focused alot of hardware power on things that doesnt really matter

I can agree with that but I still think the game looks damn good. I do think from the looks of it that nothing is happening that should keep it from being 60fps though.

If you're talking about Forza 5 then I agree.

This is the next generation. LoD spites should be banned from any games in production. ;p

I don't get how someone can look at that Canada video and say it doesn't look all that much better than F5, the lighting, the detail in the environments, the reflections having realistic distortions vs just mirrored images on the cars, it all looks quite a bit better IMO.

It's almost like they're looking through a green tinted filter.

Shouldn't it look better? More powerful hardware. Coming to market almost a year later?

I'm playing Forza 5 and will play the hell out of this too.

I'm over the comparison. Just bring it.

Coming to market almost a year later yes but we are only 6 months from launch and it already looks better, hopefully with the additional few months they still have left they can improve the AA that people are complaining about.

Honestly I do think it's a bit silly to compare them directly as they are trying to do two different things even though they are both racers, but when I see people say things like "F5 looks just as good" it's kind of a head scratcher.

Have you watched the videos on a big screen at 1080P JinCa?

I watched the first two that were supposed to be direct feed but they were streamed. Usually when I watch a direct feed video a download is involved.

Will be interesting how good DC is. By the time it launches, there will likely be some other racers on the market (or about to launch). DC is now a year two game with a seemingly large internal budget, thus they could afford to delay when most games (third parties) have to release the game for sake of needing that sales hit.
